how much to spend on anniversary gift?

honestly, i didnt even think about gifts yet. but yesterday when we went shopping i saw a ring i liked. it was about 1300. i was like hell no. that is too much to spend on a vday gift! then DH mentioned something about anniversary gift....

after we left the store i told him he better not spend that much money....i said maybe after i have a baby or we are married 5 or 10 years, then maybe okay. but for a simple vday or a 1st year anniversary. i think that is too much to spend

just wanted to know what you guys thought....

Re: how much to spend on anniversary gift?

For DH and I, yes, that would be a really large amount of money to spend on an anniversary gift...especially for our first one, given that we're newlyweds and just starting our lives together. And especially as a gift for only one of us. I could justify putting an amount like that toward a vacation, definitely...because it's something we both get to enjoy.

But that's just our particular situation.

Re: how much to spend on anniversary gift?

someone recently mentioned that 'paper' is the official 1st anniversary gift, so I would imagine a $1300 paper gift would be a bit costly. but it really depends on you and your DH - if it's an amount that you both agree on, then why not? if you think it's too much, then save it for another anniversary down the line.

the thing that comes to mind for me is, if I spent that much for our one-year anniversary, would i have tp spend $10K for our 10 year just to match the importance or expectation?!

Re: how much to spend on anniversary gift?

I agree with you, but that's probably because neither DH or I have that kind of money to spend on a gift....if he had tons of money, yeah he could buy me something like that

Re: how much to spend on anniversary gift?

i dont think you can ask this group collectively.

some of these girls bought their husbands laptops, tvs, etc. for christmas and got really expensive bags and boots and blah blah blah...

and some of us got snuggies.

but seriously -- everyone celebrates things differently.

if its something you want and he wants to get it for you and you can afford it...

then my suggestion to you guys would be to take the money you'd spend on that ring and just... give it to me.
