Re: How to convince DH to get a puppy

well, what are his reasons to NOT get a puppy? We need to form a rational presentation of sorts that has an answer for his every objection

eta: I had to beg DH forever to get a second puppy and in the end HE was the one that fell in love with our Goober when he saw him and begged me to take him home.

Maybe you need to do that...get him face to face with a puppy

This is probably your best idea... once you have a full understanding of why he doesn't want one, you can present your counter arguement for why you should get one!

This is the opposite of me and DH though... he erally wants a puppy and I'm the one who has to pull him back down to earth with why we can't have one NOW (not never, just now... )

Re: How to convince DH to get a puppy

DH took my to the animal shelter and somehow we managed to come home with a puppy (I wanted to wait until we had a fenced in backyard...he wanted one right then). Granted this was 1 week after we just moved into our apartment and we weren't even unpacked yet!

Re: How to convince DH to get a puppy

That is the cutest puppy ever!! My friend has one of these and she says it is a lot of work but soo worth it. Do you guys have flexible schedules so that if the dog needs to be cared for, one of you can come home? I heard that they need a lot of care and attention in the early years.

That is perfect!! Maybe he is just nervous. Why don't you take him to see the puppy, maybe he will fall in love?

Since you say he will be the one at home 4 days out of 5 days a week, I can understand his point. He will be the one 'dealing' with the puppy during the day. The puppy will need to be watched, cleaned after, walked etc and he needs to be on board with it...

HOWEVER, it is so, so worth ittt!!! It's not like DH isn't a dog lover, he is just nervous. The puppy stage is hard but adorable and more importantly, Doesn't last forever...you will both have a loyal companion for years.

English bullies are super expensive. Make sure you get him/her from a good breeder because they are prone to a bunch of health problems as well.

ugh i love themmmmmm

Re: How to convince DH to get a puppy

Tell Joey that it will prepare you for parenthood!! Numerous people have told me taking care of a puppy is harder than a newborn....I don't have children but I got an 8 week old puppy last year who we crate trained and wee wee pad trained.... Def lost sleep but he is so worth it. Once DH saw him he was in love. A picture isn't enough (even though now I want that puppy) once he sees the puppy he won't be able to resist!

Re: How to convince DH to get a puppy

....yea i failed big time with this lol..we're not allowed to own animals, so we just got pregnant instead...due next week.

However you can use the argument owning a pet more specifically the most adorable puppy ever! supports living longer and that you just want to make forever last longer with him and this puppy will help that cause. That or it'll help train you both for future children. :)

Re: How to convince DH to get a puppy

WE went to shake a paw just to look and Linus found us! I swear! I have always wanted a basset hound and DH has always wanted a English bulldog. When we walked in and there was a bull dog basset mix, I just had to hold him. He was so floppy and falling all over the place! I had been asking for a puppy for ever and was always told when we were married and in better situation. Well, I was prepared to walk away but DH wouldn't leave the store. We brought him home that day!!! He is a hand full! HE chews everything! My Christmas tree is stripped on the lower half! haha! He just turned one, so hopfully this stage will end soon. I was say though he has never peed or pooped in the house, super easy to train for that!

Oh and the kicker he was born on Thanksgiving, same as me!!!

Just wanted to add, that I am now working on getting a friend for Linus, but DH doesn't want to start over with the puppy stage!

this is so true!! we have a new puppy she's 6 months and she gets up and has to be walked every morning at 4:30 its insane but its preparing us for being parents (even though we dont even want to start trying till next summer) plus she's a rescue and likes nothing more than to be held, it really is like having a new baby in the house. so i see your hubbys point about the responsbility but its definietly worth it. and for us we're kinda homebodies, i'd much rather have friends over than go out so i dont mind being home on a friday night for the dog.
