If you got your marriage license in Queens... UPDATE!

How long did it take you to get your marriage certificate in the mail after the wedding?

We're almost at 1 month and I am concerned because I need to be added onto DH's insurance and whatnot... just wondering if it's normal to wait this long?

Re: If you got your marriage license in Queens...

I think it came about two weeks after the wedding...call your officiant and check on the status. (Ask them when they submitted it)

Ugh, this is what I was afraid of. I am afraid some funny business went on at the church, this is not good.

Re: If you got your marriage license in Queens... UPDATE!

Well I got to the bottom of that!

After calling every court clerk, marriage bureau, marriage records, 311... I called the church back for the 3rd time and insisted someone look into this today (after the clerk said they have no record of our marriage)...

The priest has it!! The court sent it back to the priest because 'it was missing a signature'... his! And it's probably been sitting on his desk ever since, for like 3 weeks, what was he going to do if I didn't call and ask, never send it!? I am so annoyed. I probably only have until Monday to get on my husband's health insurance, this should so not be an issue.

Re: If you got your marriage license in Queens... UPDATE!

I love how he said 'it was missing a signature', not like 'I didn't sign it.' He insisted he hold onto it before the rehearsal (normally you give it to the lady that runs the rehearsal)... and then forgot to have the witnesses sign it, so we had to come back in the limo after the ceremony when we were on the way to the reception to have him sign it! And now this. I am so annoyed, this is ridiculous.

Re: If you got your marriage license in Queens... UPDATE!

Usually they ask for the marriage certificate as proof that you are married. I guess your job is more lax than some others.

My job absolutely needed the marriage certificate. And they needed the new SS card to change my name.

That's insane Dana!!! Honestly, I was afraid our priest was gonna do something like that!!

Thank goodness you called!

hmm, i thought mine was kinda more strict than others since they required the new SS card to change my email address to my new last name! lol

i guess every job is different though

Well I need it for that too... I am changing my name, and I would have liked to have done it before we bought our car and I put the title in my maiden name... plus now this is another unnecessary trip to the DMV, and his job definitely needs the certificate to add me on the insurance. Not to mention I had to spend hours on the phone figuring this out today when I'm sick.

I had a similar problem. I talked to the people in our benifits department and they were VERY understanding since it was beyond my control the extended the enrollment period. I would go speak to them and see if they can make an exception based on the circumstances.

same for where i work, which was BS. i mean i was on my HM for 2 weeks afterwards... we had to beg Bill's PBA to send us a letter stating i was covered through marriage under his insurance just so i could drop my own. hopefully you'll receive your license in 2 weeks, and have kevin talk to his company to see if they can extend the deadline due to the circumstances.
