If you had a receiving line at the church..
Approx. how long did it take?We may not be able to stop somewhere to take pictures if we have one.
Is it rude not to have one?
thanks

Re: If you had a receiving line at the church..
I think our receiving line took about 30 minutes. I have to tell you I loved it. It was so nice to hear everyones good wishes after the ceremony. It also gave us a chance to say hello to some people who just came to the church. I highly recommend having one if time allows.

I think ours was about 30 mins as well. Most people came up to us wished us well kissed and hugged and that was that, but we did get the occassional person who wanted to have a 90 minute conversation. When that did happen I spoke for a few minutes and then looked to the next person, most of them got the point. lol

I did not have one (not married in a church)...but I made it a point to greet EVERY single person at the cocktail hour...then 3x during the reception to each table...

Re: If you had a receiving line at the church..
We had about 90 guests at the church and the receiving line took about 30 mins. I knew we were short on time but I factored in a RL because I didn't want to be rude and not greet all the guests.I've been to a few weddings were they skip the RL and to me it's a little odd - I like to be able to congratulate the couple right after the ceremony

Re: If you had a receiving line at the church..
I had a morning ceremony so we were really tight on time, but I also thought it was rude not to have one. We had our pastor's wife kindly ushering people along (from the back of the receiving line) so it made the line move quicker. Plus we kept the receiving line to just the two of us.I went to a wedding where the priest announced because the bride and groom were short on time...they ask that only those people not going to the reception greet them at the door. Everyone seemed to cooperate.

Re: If you had a receiving line at the church..
We didn't want to have one after our church ceremony, but people kind of lined up and waited for one. So we ended up having one when we didn't want one.It took about 20 minutes or so. We had decided ot visit every guest at our ****tail hour/reception, so for some people, we talked to them twice!
ETA: we can't even write the work c o c k tail anymore!!

Trish - the same thing happened to my sister. She didn't want a RL either, but we turned around after the ceremony (she got married at the hall) and all the sudden we saw a line form! It's just natural that guests will want to congratulate you.....so it's hard to avoid.
