It's about that time to change my name
AndI don't know where to begin or what to do. I did however put on the marriage application that I will be taking his name.
I wanted to keep my name since I'm the last one and we don't have any boys to carry on the name. But DH is giving me a hard time and wants me to do it before my sister has her baby b/c he's afraid I'll let my niece eat up all my time...which of course I will absolutely do!

go to social security office or dmv first. It's easy! Then you need to go to the bank, call credit cards, talk to your work for payroll and all of that fun stuff, insurance, passport

Re: It's about that time to change my name
In New York State, you can use any last name you have had or have as long as you are consistent about it and not trying to defraud anyone by pretending to be someone you aren't.Since you changed your name on your marriage license and it's on your marriage certificate, that is now your legal name. So you should go to SS and the DMV and change it (once you go to SS, you have to change it at work as well, since your SS# on your W2s must match your legal name).
If you want to still use your maiden name for things, you can. Like your phone bill or whatnot. It's still YOU and you're not trying to trick people about it. Whether you complete the process and change your name completely, your maiden name will always be a part of who you are.
If/when you have children, you can also make their middle name your maiden name in order to continue the tradition and keep the name alive. It definitely works better for some names than others... but I grew up with a friend whose middle name was 'Messenger' for that exact reason. I was talking to someone at the gym today whose daughter is 'Morgan' because that was her maiden name. You'll figure out something!
Good luck! The process is annoying, but it's quicker than you'd think.
