Last night I wanted to pay for the food I ordered for everyone to eat. Than we just ended up splitting the rest because the bill way crazy big.I have a fool proof system that we use when we go out in a group-works every time.
take the tip and add it to the tax. than divide it by the amount of people there. take that number and add it to whatever you got. works every time!

Re: <<**QOTD 10.23.10**>>
it depends where we go/what we do. we usually tell waiters in the beginning to split checks because DH and I rarely drink and our friends almost always have a couple of drinks. if no one is drinking, we do what Laura suggested and add the tip to the bill and split it evenly!

We take the bill and divide it and add more money for tips.

DH has a tendency to always pay for everyone no matter where we go...........drives me nuts. If it's up to me, I divide it evenly.

I prefer to just divide it evenly (unless of course some people are drinking and some are not.)However, when we go out with a group of my friends we have to always ask for our own seperate bill because I have some friends who have no concept of how much they owe.

We usually just divide it by couples unless my parents are involved, then they refuse to let any of us pay or even leave the tip.

We add 18% tip & then divide by the number of people or couples. I dont have time or energy to worry abotu who had two more drinks or whatev.

It depends... if alcohol is involved we usually pay for our own. I have some lush friends.I try to pay attention to what people order. If everyone is pretty close to each other in what they eat then I think its easier just to add it up and divide. But if I am eating a salad and my friends are having steak I will insist on paying by what you eat. Not all my friends are on a budget like us.

I am surprised how any of you as newlyweds just divide. All of you that just divide... do your friends a favor and don't order the most expensive thing on the menu or be conscious of what your friends are ordering....
We went out for my friends birthday and DH and I were in a $ crunch which happens from time to time. I carefully ordered the cheapest meal on the menu and so did DH. We both only had one drink. We split an appetizer. We were consciously being careful. My friends were getting 3-4 drinks each, ordering there own appetizers and getting steaks. Then they insisted we split the bill evenly and cover the birthday boy (I was ok with covering the birthday boy, but we could have just added to each of our bills).
I WAS PISSED!!! (We had another couple in the group being careful as well and they actually were freaked out about paying for it.)
I didn't go out with them again for a month and I won't go out anywhere really expensive with them.

Usually we split it evenly unless there are a few people who had drinks and some who did not then we split the bar tab separately and the rest of the bill is split evenly.
