My phone keeps buzzing...

And telling me that there is a Tornado Warning for NYC until 8PM tonight!!! Since I'm on the jobsite I just told my boss, if I see one, you won't see me but the dirt that my car will be kicking up as I speed the h*ll off this island!!!! (I'm on Randall's Island)

I think a watch is when they are watching the weather patterns to see if they change or not but a watch is that they are pretty sure one will strike somewhere in those areas listed and to watch for it.

A tornado watch is when general conditions may lead to a tornado forming. A tornado warning is when a is tornado has been spotted in the area or indicated by radar.


More Information:

In the United States, both the tornado watch and the warning are issued by the Storm Prediction Center in Norman Oklahoma for every location in the country. They are typically issued for 6-10 hour periods and also usually in advance of the anticipated weather. It is left to local National Weather Service offices to detect severe thunderstorms and tornadoes and issue the appropriate warnings. It should be noted that a tornado warning does not necessarily mean that a tornado has been spotted - in fact, the majority of tornado warnings do not pan out as such. Most of these warnings are issued based on a radar signature, i.e. the meteorologist sees something on the doppler radar that suggests strong rotation and a potential tornado, however more often than not a tornado will not form. However, a tornado warning should still be treated as if a tornado is imminent simply due to the severity of the situation. The last thing meteorologists want to do is not issue a warning when a tornado is in fact on the ground. If there is good evidence that a tornado could be on the ground, the warning is issued and emergency management personnel proceed as such, as the public should follow.

just saw same on my phone, I immediately looked out of our office windows and saw some gorgeous sun light. not sure what to do about this watch thing. how serious is it?

That Tornado hit right in the middle of my rehersal- Inbetween the church and restaurant.

I hope its not like that at all!

OMG! That tornado hit AT OUR BUILDING!!!! It was the second day back from the honeymoon and I was at my SIL's. DH called me and told me to stay there for the night because everything was down and I wouldn't be able to get down the street.

You can actually youtube it (I can't post the link on here because we don't have access to youtube at work). It was a guy in my building, just higher up then we are. Search for 'Electchester Tornado' and it should come up...
