Re: Name Change..

First you have to change your SS card. Take your marriage cert to the SS office. They will mail your new one but give you a receipt that you can bring to DMV to show them that its being changed.

At DMV have that paper from SS, your current license and marriage cert. Pretty easy. Dont forget to change your registration too (I forgot).

Credit cards will usually ask to see a copy of your updated license so you'll have to wait.

Congrats!

Re: Name Change..

you have to start with social security. go first thing int he morning, like when the first open. bring id and your marriage license.
then go to the DMV - like right after the SS office, bring the same stuff with you. ALso, if you own a car - bring the title and registration with you. you can change everything all at once.

it really isn't hard. you just might kill some time if you go later on in the day because of just waiting.

credit cards - call eachone and have them change your name.

Easy peasy!

Re: Name Change..

** I went to the DMV first - just brought my marriage license and it was all good to go. I did have to take the form to get my registration changed and bring that back another day so if you can get the form beforehand and do it all at once that would be best.

I could not get to the SS office before work hours so I mailed in an official copy of my marriage license, my original SS card and the form that I got online, and they mailed back my new SS card within a week, with my original documents as well.

Re: Name Change..

It really doesn't take too long at all! I did DMV and Social Security the same day...took maybe an hour and a half total (including driving time!) I went to Garden City DMV and Mineola SS which were close together so it was easy. DMV took 15 mins and SS took 1/2 hour.

Re: Name Change..

I did SS First then right from there to DMV. Then while driving to the post office to pick up the forms to change my passport, I called all my credit cards and insurances and changed my name over the phone. After picking up the forms, I stopped off at the bank to change it on my accounts there. I spent an entire day doing it, but it was done!

Passport was the biggest PIA because I had to go get a new picture taken, fill out that ridiculous paperwork, send my old passport and original marriage license AND a check for $110. Took 8 weeks to come. Marriage Certificate came back 1 week after passport.

I had everything with me. My License, SS Card, Marriage Certificate and Old Passport and Birth Certificate. I didn't want to be caught off guard
