name change/ gifts?

Hey! im a newlywed! yay!!

Im having a bit of trouble tho - most of our gifts are checks made out to my husband and my new name - so we cant cash any of these until i change my name -

what did you girls do? What if im not going to change my name? Is it ok to wait until i get the license in the mail, and then wait for the DMV to give me a new id? i mean, it sorta doesnt make sense to me

Re: name change/ gifts?

I had to wait for the marriage license not my ID to change my name on my bank account. Then I was able to deposit all the gifts. Most were made out to Mr.& Mrs.

If any were made out to my maiden name I just showed them my ID and signed both names.

Oh and those with Mr. & Mrs. had to have both my and my DH's signature

Re: name change/ gifts?

i feel like i brought in my marriage license to the bank and explained the situation. DH signed them, and i signed them twice (once in my maiden name and once in my married name). each bank is different though, but it wasn't a problem for mine at all.

Re: name change/ gifts?

We just went to the bank and told them we had gotten married and they just had me sign the checks by hyphenating my name. It was the day after we got married so we didnt have our marriage license yet. They just took our word for it. We also put all the money in a joint acount so im not sure if that had anything to do with it.

I signed my name (with my maiden name) and dh signed his and they let us deposit them the day after the wedding with no problem... most banks know what's going on if you're trying to deposit 100 checks made out to 'mr and mrs so and so'

Re: name change/ gifts?

DH just signed them and deposited them through the ATM. No problems at all.

Re: name change/ gifts?

I bank with chase and they allowed us to deposit all of the checks into my checking account. Both DH and I had to be present and sign the checks on site.

Did you already have a joint checking? We'd have to start one (presumably with my maiden name since i dont have new name id yet) and then perhaps they'd let us cash them? What bank was this? UGH!

Thanks for your answers everyone!

TD didn't let me hyphenate. I had to sign all the checks twice. Once with my maiden name, once with the married name (which is silly because I'm not changing my name at all). We already had a joint account too.
