Re: New Orleans Recommendations!

DH went on his bachelor party there so I don't have TOO many details

But he did recommend Pat O'Briens - it's a bar and restaurant... they have a piano bar there (love piano bars!!) and their signature drink is a Hurricane, like a LI Iced Tea but sweeter.

Could be worth checking out!

Must do a riverboat jazz dinner cruise. We had a great time.

river boat

Do the bourbon street thing. Dont walk it during the day though- it stinks like stale beer and urine But go for the experience at night. Gotta have a frozen hurricane- OMG sooooo good!

Go to Cafe DuMonde- best beinets!!
Cafe DuMonde

There is also a Harrah's casino there also

ETA: Also you must try Alligator Bites- if you never had them- OMG!!!! Amazing!!

Now I want to go back!

Re: New Orleans Recommendations!

ACME oyster house
port of call
Pat O'Briens for a Hurricane
Walk past the casino and walk through the river walk and the flea market, etc

If you want a total fattening, greasy hangover breakfast, go to Johnny's Po Boys for breakfast... mmmmmmmmmm

I need to take a break...getting excited...

By the way, the beers are 3 for 1 there all day... You ask for a corona, you pay $5 or $6 and they hand you 3 of them... Just saying

Re: New Orleans Recommendations!

I went to school in NOLA!

A must in my book is a 'roadie'--ask the cab driver to take you for a daiquiri--at least when I went to school there, they had drive-thrus for daiquiri shops.

A must for eating is Cochon--but you'll need a reservation. Not too pricey but a must.

Also, **** and Jennys. Its a locals favorite.

Have a mint julep on the steps of the Columns Hotel. You'll do this by taking the streetcar towards Uptown and getting off by the Hotel. Its an experience.

During the day, I recommend:
Magazine Street
St. Louis Cemetery (very cool)
French Market
Jackson Square

I have a few docs I can send you that I send to people going to NOLA.......

Re: New Orleans Recommendations!

OHHHHH another place, The Columns, im pretty sure it's on Magazine Street.

GREAT place to get a drink..... you can sit outside and watch the street cars go by.. It's like everything you picture NOLA to look like.

Re: New Orleans Recommendations!

Acme Oyster House is a MUST. Also see if you can take a cooking class! I did one at the New Orleans School of Cooking (I think thats what is was called) and we got to eat everything we made and take home cookbooks and seasoning. So much fun. Also Cafe du Monde foe beignets! YUM!
