Newly Wed Question of the Day
How stereotypical of a 'wife' are you?Since I have been out of work I have fallen into the 'wife' roll hard. I do all the cleaning, cooking and laundry. The Hubs literally comes home and opens a beer and turns on the t.v.
Once I'm working agin things will be more equal, but staring at this laundry made me think.

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
I am all over the spectrum, and sometimes at the extremes, when it comes to being a 'stereotypical wife.' I LOVE wearing an apron and cooking (I pretend I'm on Top Chef - don't laugh), setting a beautiful table, and cleaning up the apartment to the point that it is immaculate! Other times, I just can't do anything 'wife' related because of work and school. DH is also working full time and going to school at nights/on the weekends.Lucky for me, DH is beyond awesome when it comes to this kinda stuff! He will clean up, do laundry, go grocery shopping. We really just step up when the other person is stretched too thin.
PS - DH has said numerous times that he is more than openminded to the idea of staying home to raise the kids and play the role of mr. mom if my career takes off. Not sure how I feel about this but I think it is really cool and endearing that he even throws it out there!

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
i am not a typical wife at all.I don't cook or do laundry but that prob has to do with us living in the city and having the smallest kitchen on earth.
if we aren't eating out then we order takeout every night usually or have like a bowl of cereal or PBJ for dinner.
we don't have laundry in our building so i have to send it out to the wash-n-fold.
i clean, but want a cleaning lady so bad!! that's next on my list but it's hard to find someone!

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
we're both the stereotypical wife. he usually does the food shopping because he is always off at least 2 days during the week. yesterday he planted pansies in our front yard. he's been helping more with cleaning and cooking since i've been pregnant, which is much appreciated. I work 50+ hours a week and with the pregnancy it's just been hard for me to keep up. i'm very greatful for all that he does. even though he does b!tch about it sometimes lol.

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
It depends... I hate cleaning and grocery shopping so we order through peapod and I FINALLY convinced him that we should get a maid service. But I love decorating and hosting holidays. I love baking and cooking. But there are nights where you couldn't pay me to go near the kitchen and turn the oven on. I do the laundry and change the sheets on the beds on a regular basis... stuff like that... but I'm not like waking up to make him breakfast in the morning and I do make him do his fair share of 'women's work'

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
I guess I'm kind of a mix between the stereo-typical wife and a more modern-day wife.I love to cook, clean and play 'housewife' but I don't really have the time. I work three jobs, so I'm usually VERY busy.
I usually cook about 4 nights out of the week, but they're simple and quick meals (i.e. stir fry, burgers, chicken, etc.). Unless I happen to get out of work early and have time......like last night I was able to make a nice steak dinner with salad and twice baked potatoes
But Thursday will probably be take-out since I don't get home until 9pm. We usually do most of the grocery shopping together, but I often go by myself as well.I do most of the cleaning, but if DH notices I'm super busy and the house is getting nasty, he'll take the initiative. He's also good like that with laundry - if I'm working on the weekends, he'll do the laundry.........but he doesn't fold it and put it away, so I'll come home to a pile of clean clothes on our bed

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
... i do all the laundry and on the weekends i cook bigger meals.but i pretty much suck at everything else. i work longer hours than DH does and i'm basically someone else's stay at home wife/mom during the day so the last thing i want to do when i come home is pick up after him.
and he's messy and gets home before me so ... he's usually good about not complaining when i make him clean up stuff.
i AM the only one who cleans the bathroom though.

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
kinda inbetween...DH works most nights & weekends... but when he is home - he does the vacuuming & laundry... (but God Forbid he cleans the bathroom...
) I do the cooking, shopping, and the 'other' cleaning in the house.

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
DH would say that I spend all of 'his' money.
ETA: the stereotypical wife things I do are doing the laundry and the cleaning. I just dont trust him to clean or do the laundry up to my stanard. he does all the cooking and ironing though! It drives his old school puerto rican mother crazy!!!!! I love it.

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
Since it's baseball season, DH coaches and he doesn't come home till around 7:30 - 8 every night. I normally have dinner waiting for him when he gets home. He'll have practice/game on Saturday so I'll get up and do some cleaning. Saturday night he works at a bar so Sunday he'll sleep in since he only gets home at like 5 or 6. Sunday's I'll either be lazy or do something else around our place. Not in baseball season DH does a lot since he's home earlier than I am.

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
A little of column A, a little of column B.I cook 95% of the meals we eat at home. I love to cook!
I prepare our lunches to take to work most of the time.
I don't do laundry...we just send it out to get it done. It's well worth the extra five dollars every two weeks...it means we don't have to spend three hours in laundromat hell.
I don't clean much...he gets home before I do and he's much better at cleaning than I am, so he does a good chunk of the cleaning, for which I am VERY grateful.
We both take care of monthly expenses/bills.
I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and work on a home improvement project. I have more tools than he does
and learned a lot of skills while working on sets for various productions.

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
I'm a bit of a 'stereotypical wife'I cook dinner every night
I keep the apt. clean during the week and he helps with the big cleaning (floors and such) on the weekends.
we go food shopping together on the weekends, but I pickup things that we need during the week.

Re: Newly Wed Question of the Day
I guess I'm 'sterotypical'?I do all the cooking (unless I'm sick) and most of the cleaning. We we've been busy and the apartment is a mess then Franky will help but even when he was just on 4 weeks furlough I cooked every night after work (except my birthday) and cleaned the apartment. Franky USED to do my laundry (that was the deal) but he doesn't do it unless he needs some things to fill up his laundry load and then mine piles up so I do mine and he does his.
I do the food shopping on peapod but if we need odds and ends then I run to the store.
I also clean Avery's litter box, fill her water bowl, and give her food.
We split the bills, mosty. He pays the rest, cable, and internet and I pay car insurance, our car payment, renters insurance, cell phone, and our joint credit card.
And he wonders why I'm too tired to
all the time!!!!!!!!!!!He's lazy and I can't stand him just letting things sit until he feels like taking care of them...
