~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

Thanks Roz for making me NWOTW...I can't tell you how happy you've made me

Sooooo today I'm wondering how many of you have actually gotten around the changing your last name legally? I've done so on my credit cards and at the bank, but I haven't really gotten the motivation to go down to the SS office or the DMV...although I've gotta do it soon because my registration is up as well.

For those of you who have done it, was it a really big PITA?? For some reason I just feel like its going to be super annoying.

For those of you who decided to keep your name, why was it important to you to do so?

Sorry no raunch today...its already the longest day ever and its not even 2pm!!! I gotta figure out something to do with SD tomorrow or we're both gonna go out of our gourds with boredom!

Re: ~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

I haven't yet. Reason being is that I'll be traveling soon and the bookings were made in my maiden name, so I'm waiting until after that.

Not looking forward to it, that's for damn sure!

Re: ~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

My process was the hugest pain in the *** because I got incorrect information from someone who basically said I had to fill out all this additional paperwork, meet with a judge, etc.. And then it turned out it was already changed and I just had to change my IDs, CCs, etc. It was really frustrating, just glad it's all taken care of now.

Re: ~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

I changed mine at work, the SS office, my bank. I haven't changed my license or my passport. I'm too lazy to wait online at the DMV. Though it will be another excuse to take time off of work, so I probably ought to do that soon.

SS office was awful! They made me take a number and stand in line (which completely defeats the purpose of the effing number) and it took foreverrrrrrrrrr!

Re: ~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

I've done everything except my passport. SS office and DMV were a cinch for me.......I was done in 20 minutes at each place. DMV I had to go home and go back again to get the title for my car so that could be changed too, and I was done in 10 minutes when I got back again.

The bank actually took me the longest, lol.

Re: ~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

today is 4 mths since we got married and I never legally changed my name

its not that i don't plan on ever changing it....but right after I got back from the HM i started a new job and all the paperwork was filled out as my maiden name. I just felt like I didnt wanna get them all confused and start changing it like right after I started...plus I havent been able to take a day to go to SS or DMV.

I will change it eventually just dont really see the rush to do it. I like my maiden name better anway

i changed mine back in June, it really wasn't that bad.. SS i went to for when they opened so i was in and out.. then i went to the DMV afterward and that took about an hr.

i then put in for it @ work.. pretty easy.. HR took care of everything

then i went to the bank and changed it-- pretty simple

& then i called all my CC's

... the only thing i have left to do is my passport

Re: ~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

I've changed everything except my passport, which I need to get to already. SS took about an hour and a half - it was long, but it wasn't totally horrible. I just brought a book there with me and once I got up to the window, it took a few minutes. DMV was a half hour n very easy.

Re: ~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

I haven't changed my name and won't be. I got married at 41 years old. I was Gina S for too long to suddenly change my name didn't feel right to me. I can't imagine asking DH to change his name, why should I change mine? My inner-feminist got the best of me.

I don't mind being called Mrs. M___ socially and our children (if we have any) will have his last name, but legally I will always be Gina S___.

mine is changed and it really wasnt that bad...the worst part of it was going to SS and having to wait and wait and wait.....but other than that it was fine. I made a list of all my credit cards and people I had to call and that made it easy too....just did like 3 a day

Re: ~*~*~NWQOTD 8/30~*~*~

I didn't change my name. It actually wasn't important to me at first, and I had always planned on taking my husband's name if I liked it, because I really don't like my last name. But when it came down to it, it just didn't make any sense in my mind. I come from a VERY feminist background, so it really would have been breaking from my family to change my name, and it just seemed like a weird move. Why should I give up my family to become a part of his? Funnily enough, though, I did change my name around the time I got married...I changed it to my mom's last name. I did that because 1) As I said, I hated my last name, and 2) I work with my dad, so it was annoying to have the fact that we're related always be the first thing people know about me. So now I'm using my mom's last name professionally, but I don't think I'm going to change it legally.

I'm the opposite... I changed it at DMV and SS, but no where else. I keep meaning to do it at work but I forget to bring my SS card in.
