nwr: inlaw vent

just need to vent - and i know i cant complain to my mom or anyone bc they would flip so i am sharing my frustrations on here hoping getting it out will make me feel better...

DH and i have a HORRIBLE relationship with his family. his mom is psycho, his dad drinks a lot, and his brother has a drug problem. they gave us nothing but trouble during the wedding planning.
The other night DH gets a call that his mom is moving in with a friend (DH agrees they should separate/get a divorce bc he said since he can remember their relationship was terrible and right now father-in-law lives in the unfinished basement). she said she was moving out back in May and we are still waiting so i dont really know if this will happen. anyway...she had the nerve to ask DH for money!!!!!!! he was taken back (as was I) and didnt know how to respond. I am 10000% against giving her money! am i wrong???

edit: i should also mention, a few years ago she told her job she no longer wanted to work full time and asked to be put to part time...so she works 1-2 days a week! but that doesn't stop her from getting an iphone, ipad, going for manicures & pedicures weekly and buying new shoes & bags every month.

i want to yell at her and say stop being lazy and work and you would have money!!!! (he job recently offered her a full time position and she turned it down!)

Re: nwr: inlaw vent

I don't think you're wrong...I'm all for helping out family in need if you have the means to and if you WANT to BUT I also don't believe 'I'm your mother, your brother, your father etc' automatically entitles them to ANYTHING if they haven't been good to you. I'd say that you guys are not in any position to give money at this point.

also...BEWARE. if she truly is psycho, this is NOT going to be the last time she asks for money if you give in now.

Re: nwr: inlaw vent

First off, sorry you guys are going through this . My DH's family is like this, which is why we have cut off all contact with them since the wedding.

Personally, I wouldn't because like Anney said, you give in once, she'll most likely be back for more.

Re: nwr: inlaw vent

I wouldn't give a cent. It is one thing when something unfortunate happens...loss of a job, and illness, and I think it is ok to help out in those situations.

Bt the woman could work if she wants
