Orange County, NY
Anyone know anything about this area? I was looking on Homes on LIF, and the prices and lower taxes and good school districts caught my eye. It's 1 -2 hours from the city.My husband and I feel like we will never afford a home in li or Queens, which is fine with us, but we want to stay close to our families...so I think this would be perfect.
I was looking and found houses for 300,000 with 2 acres!!! fireplaces, ready to move in, nice kitchens, hooked up, 2 car garage, finished basement!!!
Just wanted to see if anyone knows the area, or lives there on here. Look at some I fell in love with...
in love
I actually feel like our dream of owning a home can be a reality. We're going to go up there one weekend to check it out!
and this one

Re: Orange County, NY
it's totally a GREAT area. I went there often growing up and my dad has many of his clients there. The taxes are much better. When you get farther away from Manhattan you can get SO much more for your $$.
It's well worth looking into the area!

I grew up in Rockland/Westchester and have family and friends in Orange County so I know some of areas. It's pretty nice in some, and can be a little hickish in others. It just depends on how much further north you go and the town.

Could you let me know either on here or FM which are the areas that are 'hickish.' Or north of what area is where you see a bigger change?
Is it going to be a big culture shock for us? My husband was born and raised in Queens. We love hiking, camping, and the outdoors, but we are also city people, yaknow! :)
Thanks everyone!

Re: Orange County, NY
We have been looking in Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties. There are a few new subdivisions you can find homes for that price. We also have family members who live in Orange county (not chester town) and LOVE IT!! I do believe if you find a good deal go for it! Many people are leaving the city and going north and many companies are relocating as well.My cousin is a real estate agent in Orange County and focuses on foreclosures but I'm sure she can give you some insight on where to look. FM if interested.

DH grew up in Orange County....Monroe. His parents still live there and we visit the area often. It is right near the Woodbury Commons and tons of other stores. The area is okay, but there is always a lot of traffic.
