Our First Vacation - Suggestions

I want to start planning our first newlywed tri[p. Since the only trip DH and I every been on alone was our honeymoon, i want to go someplace nice. What are some suggestions? I am thinking about sometime in January/February. No cruise because we plan on going on a cruise with friends in June/July.

Thanks Ladies

Re: Our First Vacation - Suggestions

Aruba!

Some other suggestions:

Bahamas (especially if you can get a deal on the Atlantis in Paradise Island)

Key West, FL...if it isn't too cold in Jan/Feb

Re: Our First Vacation - Suggestions

Well we went to Secrets Maroma Beach in the Riviera Maya for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! It is adults only and amazing.
Also, what about the Dominican Republic? I've heard great things about the Excellence Punta Cana.
I also love the Bahamas ( especially paradise island) and Jamaica.

Dh and I went to Excellence Punta Cana in July and really did not like it. We had gone to Excellence Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon and EPC was not nearly as nice as EPM. A lot of ppl loved EPC though, so maybe they were just having an off week. We both got terribly sick from the food...it effected us up until 3 weeks after we got home.

I personally would not do an all inclusive in Aruba b/c the restaurants are awesome and the island is very safe. We stayed at the Marriott Aruba Resort and Stellaris casino. We would definitely stay there again.. I also hear good things about the Radisson there..it's also not all inclusive.

Yea, I was going to post right after we got back in July, but I had seen so many rave reviews on it, that I thought maybe it was just us or it was an off week for the resort. I just wanted to share my experience. I don't want ppl to think it is an awful place...I just didn't think it was as good as EPM was...and we got sick. I hear that a lot about Dominican Republic though...not necessarily that particular resort. I think Excellence properies are beautiful (EPC was no exception) and the service is fab. We just really didn't like the food and the rooms are very outdated. If you are looking into an Excellence, definitely try the one in Playa Mujeres.

Re: Our First Vacation - Suggestions

we went to St. Lucia - Sandals Regency - a few months after our honeymoon (which was to Bermuda, which we LOVE, but you can't go there in the winter). St. Lucia is great, and it was relaxing and beautiful. Though I have to say, we went Christmas week and it was expensive (for an all inclusive, JMO) and a little too far away; we spent 2 days out of 8 traveling.

We are going to Riviera Maya, Mexico - Zoetry resort - in June. I have heard nothing but good things... another all inclusive but with a more wellness perspective, lots of yoga / exercise and light, healthy cuisine. Not an oversized resort either - I think 90 suites in all.

I have also heard good things about the Riu chain
