So I really didnt get any answers on LIF

So I am going to ask on here.

I am freaking out about the hurricane

Most of you know I live in Queens but we have the house in Greenport. We are on the bay across from Shelter Island. Do I need to take a drive out there to do anything with my house? Sandbags? windows?

ETA- I had 195 views and only 1 person answered.

Re: So I really didnt get any answers on LIF

i would think the bay is more protected than the oceanfront (south shore) ... any news reports i've seen have addressed the south shore so i'm not sure if there's any risk to that area ... does your DH have any experience at the house with other storms (nor'easters or tropical storms)? ...

He said that since his family has been out on the North Fork only once in the '80's they called for an evacuation and even then they didnt get any flooding in the house.

Hmmmm....is it closed up tight? You might lose a shutter or something if they are loose. If it floods with a Hurricane, I don't know that you can really do anything about that

ouch - that's a lot of windows!

if something happens to the house (ie: windows break), does insurance pay for it?

I'm not sure- we have to check the policy. the thing is we just put in all new windows in May I would die if we have to do them over again!

Re: So I really didnt get any answers on LIF

Maybe the FEMA or News 12 LI websites may have Hurricane procedures listed. What about contacting a Greenport neighbor to see what they are doing. I'm not much help, I only have suggestions. SOrry....

Jerry is calling one of the neighbors today to see what they are doing. Since we are on the North Fork it looks like they wont be evacuating- but you never know.

Thanks for all your answers!
