so i set my countdown...

after our reception in december... i reset my countdown to when we thought we'd be ready to TTC.

i don't pay much attention to it anymore.

it's at 67 days.

i feel like i just swallowed a watermelon.

not so sure i'm ready anymore. we are still so broke.

Re: so i set my countdown...

i don't think anyone really feels financially ready (unless they're filthy rich) ... if the people on Maury Povich can afford to have babies, you can DEFINITELY do it too

My FIL said something to my BIL once and it's stuck with me...'you'll never have enough money to have a baby...' SO TRUE! I might have problems with my MIL but my FIL is awesome!

I've def. heard this many times!

I think just as important..if not more...you have to be emotionally ready.

Re: so i set my countdown...

i'm emotionally ready. i just feel bad that we aren't in the best financial shape. we aren't going to be able to have a nursery or anything.

i mean i suppose this is a major 'duh' but -- it's obviously more important that it'll come into a home with lots of love than to a home with lots of rooms, right?

okay fine i feel better.

Re: so i set my countdown...

I fear it for financial reasons sometimes.

I just got a hospital bill from when I had my first epidural for my back issue: $800! When we went online to aetna and checked, the next visit will be bill $500 and the next is zero because I hit the deductible for the year.

it scares me a little to know if I didn't hit that deductible we would be so screwed when the birth happens this year.

pick up a copy of baby bargains, it eased my mind so much!

Oh I didn't mention this part: i paid $500 to the spine specialist for all 3 visits (not $500 a visit) thinking that was it, I had NO IDEA the hospital charged! next time, I'm not using the OR!!! I felt the needle the 3rd time and it wasn't that bad, it was a pinch!

Re: so i set my countdown...

you will adjust to whatever expenses are thrown at you. if there's one thing i've learned, no matter how much money I make, or me and DH together, I am always on a budget. Always watching my spending. You find a way to make it work.
I'm nervous as hell, especially since DH's salary is currently frozen ( ) but we'll make do. As long as one of us isn't unemployed, we're fine.

He may cry about not getting a new golf bag when he wants it, but such is life.

ITA - I actually felt this way when we were about to adopt our pets (which I know are WAY less $$ than kids) but we were like 'will we be able to afford food, littler, vet visits?' and you just do it.

Btw, you're pretty intense w/ your timer!

Re: so i set my countdown...

DH and I are not wealthy at all, but I would say finances are (so far) the thing that has changed the least since having a child. We budget every little detail, and it's worked out great. We do cloth diapers (trust me, they are not like the cloth diapers back in our parent's days of raising kids!), I breastfeed, and we (luckily) got a ton of gifts and hand-me-downs that cut down expenses. It helps to have savings for those emergency moments, but budgeting is really the least of our worries thus far. No one is ever 100% ready, you just have to be 100% WILLING to put someone else before yourself. It's amazing all the little things that become more difficult to do...but this girl is totally worth it!

Re: so i set my countdown...

Awww becki! The closer we got to trying (and even when I first got my BFP), I felt not ready!! Its scary!!! No one is ever completely ready though. It definitely seems like something you want, and its normal to be scared.

You could postpone it a few more. Months or just stop preventing, have fun, don't stress it and see what happens!

No matter how much money you have, you make it work. All a newborn needs is lots of love (and milk!).

Good luck!!!
