Television shopping
HeySo DH & I are getting a new TV. My dad is buying it for us so I don't want to go too crazy. He said I could have whatever I want but I'm not big into TV....DH only really watch Jersey Shore & True Blood LOL and then movies here and there.
So my queston is
should I get a 30 something or low 40 something inch but get a great brand i.e. Sony?
or
should I get like a jumbo high 40 something or 50 something inch but maybe a lower brand?

Re: Television shopping
It really depends on the size of the room and how far you will be sitting away from it... we had a 40 inch from our old apt that was perfect but brought it to our new place and it was tiny! we had to upgrade to a 52 ... samsungs are the best... we also have a 32 sharp aquos in our bedroom that i love

Re: Television shopping
We have a 52' Samsung Plasma TV. We originally went with the newer LED version which was much more expensive, but we returned it after a week. The picture was super clear, but when watching movies it looked as though someone had taped it as a home video. I couldn't deal with it at all!!!We love the plasma!!!! and the guys at Best Buy were actually all recommending the plasmas even though they were much cheaper. They used to have a bad rap when they first came out, but all those problems were fixed and now they're great.

Re: Television shopping
First of all if you are purchasing a Plasma or LCD i wouldnt purchase anything other then a Samsung. The picture quality is the absolute best & the only one close to it is the LG. If you are not into big TVs like 50 inch or up thats fine. But really i wouldnt purchase anything smaller then 40inch. I have a 40 plasma in my bedroom. I have 52 plasma in the Den. Go with the Samsung ONLY! I promise you. Also make sure to have at least three HDMI inputs. For cable & Dvd player & if you use a receiver for surround sound thats three & if you want playstation or something thats four. So u need it.

I think we're going to go with LCD.
Yeah we have a lot of things to plug in so I will keep that in mind.

My experience has been that the Sony Bravia is the best. I have had a lot of issues with the flat screens. When you look you want to look at the pictures, the sound (this is a big problem), but also how the channels flip. Most of them have very annoying delays.I have a Sony Bravia in my den and I love the picture quality, the sound and the way the channels change.

I always thought the delay was the Cablevision box. Interesting

Re: Television shopping
Interesting... my dad and I got my mom a Samsung for her office/laundry room and its terrible. The sound is so low you can hardly hear it at full volume and it has such a long delay when you switch the channel we want to shoot ourselves. I would never buy a Samsung again.

Re: Television shopping
We just got a Samsung 42 ' LCD tv from best buy and it's fabulous. Definitely the best TV we've ever had (it's our first flat screen, too). We just went into best buy and told the guy we wanted a Samsung and he said 'great choice! they're the best' and there were a lot of options, but we're very happy with our choice. We don't watch a ton of TV, but we wanted a nice one for our new living room and this definitely looks great in here.
It's kinda nice to have HD now too. We never had that before.

we have 2 awesome tvs... a 46' sony in the living room and a 32' westinghouse in the bedroom. i don't think samsungs are the best and only thing to get - my mom had one and it was absolutely terrible... she returned it for a sonyeta: we just got the westinghouse from costco like 2 weeks ago and they had the best prices
