Is it possible that she 'woke up' and realized that she can't keep behaving the way she did when it was your shower?

I wouldn't take it personally. Maybe she and your BIL are getting closer and she thinks if she becomes part of the family she should put more $ and effort into everything. I have never spent $200 on a shower gift!

I would try not to take it too personally. perhaps their relationship has gotten a bit more serious and she now seems your family as her possible future family?

I don't know for sure, but I'd try not to let it bother you. People can be so strange.

Is it possible that she is trying harder to impress SIL than you? That is what it seems like to me. People who are rude are usually clueless too. She is pretty inconsiderate, but maybe you are lucky that she wants to be closer to SIL than you

I wouldn't take it personally. You never know, maybe she was planning on picking up your shower gift on the way to the shower. I think it was very thoughtful that she even bought you something even though she didn't go.

I wouldn't compare you and your SIL. She may feel closer to your SIL then you realize and that is why she was a little more generous. Of perhaps, her financial situation had changed. I wouldn't look in to it too much.

Thats what DH says. She and my bil got into their first 'big' fight over my shower actually b/c he was really annoyed at what she did... it is very typical of her.

DH also thinks that since my bil makes good money and always give VERY VERY generous gifts to people he was a little 'embarassed' when he saw what she gave me/how much she spent and gave her $$$ for his sisters shower.

That's very possible. I know that my MIL wore an off white dress that she got at Bloomingdales to my wedding, but she bought a very expensive bridal store dress for my BILs wedding this weekend. She certainly doesn't like my FSIL more than she likes me, I just think after she saw how fancy and elegant my mom's dress was that she learned to be a little more formal for her other son's wedding.
