Where would you buy a house....?

If you were looking in the (give or take) $350K range for a home in Nassau County, close enough to a train station?

DH and I have a handful of towns that we're looking in, but I just wanted to see if any of you ladies have any ideas/inspiration/validation for me

Re: Where would you buy a house....?

DH and i are looking in that range too! Weve been looking in

Oceanside
East Rockaway
Massapequa
Merrick/Bellmore
Valley Stream
Wantagh

It seems though that the taxes in Wantagh are a little higher than in the other towns, but the property is a little bigger (on average)

GOOD LUCK!

Re: Where would you buy a house....?

I can't help too much, I just recently looked at Great Neck for us, and the prices were much better than in Queens - but the taxes is what killed it

Re: Where would you buy a house....?

Yeah, the taxes are definitely a killer. Such a disappointment when you find a house in your range and then there's $12K taxes...

Re: Where would you buy a house....?

We bought our house in Levittown. Its decently close to the Hicksville train station (we are also on the border of Bethpage and Hicksville). If you look in the Island Trees SD in Levittown the taxes aren't too bad (we saw many houses with taxes in the 6-7k range ).
We looked at a couple of houses in Hicksville as well. It honestly wasn't my first choice (I've heard mixed things about the SD) but the taxes were as low as 5k on one house!

Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa

This is primarily where we've been looking...

Colleen - where in Levittown are you? From what I hear Island Trees and MacArthur are good, but people have been saying to avoid Division...

It's definitely tough to find something that hits all the marks... patience is a virtue in house hunting, but I keep reminding myself it's a buyer's market!

IMO you can't go wrong with any of the Levittown SDs, however if I were to rank them Island Trees would be top of my list and Division would be bottom. I'm in no way saying Division is bad- it's not! If we lived in the Division SD I would still send my kids to public school. I just feel the other two are better. (Just my personal opinion).

We live off Jerusalem Ave- we're in the Island Trees SD. It's the smallest of the three but its supposedly an excellent SD. As I said before, the taxes are much lower in the Island trees SD due to the commerical property on hempstead turnpike. I think we pay just under 8k and we have an inground pool, 2 sheds, and garage.
