wow... this board is super dead

lets liven things up

how do u dress for work? I mean how much time in the morning u put in into ur outfit, hair, m/u?

I usually dress very very casual for work -
in winter I wear sweater dresses, leggings and uggs
in spring I wear random pants and sweaters
and in the summer random pants and t shirts
very rarely do I put together a glammed up outfit, usually I am feeling lucky for just being able to tear myself off the bed and looking half put together

I spend about 10-15 mins straightening my hair and putting mascara on

post websites of where u like to shop for work

my top ones:
http://www.anntaylor.com/home.jsp
http://www.gap.com/
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/home.do?ssiteID=GAP

Re: wow... this board is super dead

I'm business casual for the most part...

No jeans or leggings allowed, but I wear dresses with tights and cardigans, or pants with button down tops or sweaters.

And high heels every day

Two years ago, I had a problem with my foot and couldn't wear heels for nearly a year... most depressing time ever! People comment all the time, 'I can't believe you wear those high heels every day!' But I love them.

My hair takes a good 20 minutes to dry & straighten after a shower, and then another 5 minutes to put on make up.

sites for work clothes:
Express
The Limited
NY & Company

Re: wow... this board is super dead

i never plan what i'm gonna wear .... i wing it based on how i feel that morning (pretty / fat / lazy / tired) ... i put stuff in my hair and let it air-dry and put on eye-makeup and lipstick ... i take about 20 minutes to do all these things ... but another 20 to shower

lately, my favorite store to shop at is NY & Co. But i also go to ideeli, hautelook, ruelala, amazon (not for clothes), and sometimes macy's.

Re: wow... this board is super dead

I would say business casual but definitely more on the casual side. I only dress more business when I have a meeting to go to.

I should plan out the night before what I'm going to wear but I normally just wing it in the morning.

Places I like to shop:

Anny Taylor
J Crew
Banana Republic
Gap
Old Navy
Victoria's Secret

Re: wow... this board is super dead

80% of the time in in a suit, or pants/skirt and a blazer.

when i know for certain i dont have a meeting i may go business casual.

in the 3.5 years ive been working here, i wore jeans 1x, and it was on a day that no one was working. lol

some days i look better than others.

it takes me about an hour to get ready - shower, hair, m/u, clothes

today i have a pencil skirt, loose flowing top, long sweater blazer and heels

i havent shopped in a while, but usually find stuff at:
ny&co, jcp, macys

Re: wow... this board is super dead

I technically have to wear a suit everyday but I work alone a lot (although my new partner who sounds CRAZY CRAZE starts tomorrow and we are meeting for the first time at 2pm...once she starts I will have to wear a suit everyday ).

Because suits are so expensive and I HATE spending money on clothes for this job I usually just buy the basics...I have several black suits - pant suits and skirt suits. My legs are so long that I have trouble with pants so my go-to work outfit is a black skirt suit with tights and ballet flats in the winter (sans tights in the summer - I rock the bare leg - scandalous).

My suits are from:

Banana Republic
Ann Taylor
Express

I try to add some personality with tops so I try to wear fun colors but I am at such a low point with this job that I sometimes just wear black or white under the black suit. I look like a waitress at a really fancy restaurant.

ETA: I started off by saying that I don't wear a suit EVERYDAY when I'm alone. I'll usually wear a skirt suit and a bright colored cardigan. My go-to cardigan is a cotton blend from J.Crew....I have them in pretty much every color of the rainbow and they are GREAT!

I get a lot of use out of them bc I can wear them when I'm not working over slinky camisoles and jeans

ETA2: I spend as little time as possible in terms of hair and mu for this job. I'm at such a low point - I need a new job! I usually just put on concealer/foundation, a little blush, lip gloss and mascara - takes me about 2-3 minutes

Re: wow... this board is super dead

Just checked online for you - this season they are 62 but some colors are on sale for 39.99!

I know 62 may sound steep...but I wash these things in the washer/dryer - no dry cleaning $....and I get at least 2 FULL seasons outta them. I have a bright pink, a neon yellow, and a white. I LOVE the bright colors...the white is okay but I don't make as much use out of it.

I believe it is called 'The Jackie'

Re: wow... this board is super dead

I put like...barely any time into my morning ritual.

Makeup takes about 5 minutes, hair is pretty much the same.

I dress in my own version of business casual at work. I work in the arts, so we get away with a lot here.

My main concern in the morning is...do I want to wear a dress or pants? If it's a dress, then it's usually some form of Courtney Love-inspired dress with a cardigan and boots or maryjane flats. If it's pants, then it's usually dressy-ish pants (surprisingly, we aren't allowed to wear jeans) with a button-down shirt or some kind of plain, boring shirt. I'm a cardigan queen, so I usually have one around.

I almost always work in sneakers when I wear pants. No one says anything, even though it's against the dress code. I don't care.

I shop wherever for clothes...Buffalo Exchange, Urban Overpriced Outfitters, Forever 21, sometimes NY&Co when I feel conservative.

aww thanks. i think suits or matching pieces are great to start. and it takes no time to think of what to wear = suit + top.

then you can start mixing and matching

Re: wow... this board is super dead

heather - i usually get suits for good prices at macys or even ny&co (but i havent liked their stuff lately)

best suit deal i ever found was at cohoes (they have on in nj!). so i may need to head back there.

outlet shopping is good too. i got nice summer suits (light material, but good quality) at Geoffrey beane (sp?)

haha - i LOVE them! i'm all about being comfortable so most of my outfits and shoes are actually really comfortable while looking put together.

Some people think work pants are uncomfortable, but I wear the Editor pants from Express and the just fit really nice, so it's no different than wearing jeans to me. Every once in a blue moon, I'll wear a blazer, but those are tougher since 'the girls' make it hard to find ones that fit nicely - they're either too big all over, except the chest, or fit perfectly all over, except the chest being too tight.

comfy shoes are the most important thing ever! i don't wear heels to work that i know will hurt me.

ETA: Note on shoes!!!! If they hurt in the store, they will always hurt! I like Maryjane style shoes for work too because I know my heel won't slide out and having me falling all over the place lol
