My 11/05/06 review- Woodbury Country Club, Oksana, Nicole D'Angio, 12th Night, Wild Rose, Royalty and many more UPDATED with Wild Rose Review and 12th Night proofs

Our wedding day was the best day of my life. I got to marry my husband twice. We had a beautiful church ceremony in the afternoon and a Jewish ceremony in the evening at the Woodbury Country Club. We wanted to celebrate both of our religions and it couldn’t have worked out any better. My advice to brides to be is not to sweat the small things. I drove myself crazy with all the little details, and I hardly paid attention to any of it on my wedding day. I was too busy enjoying being a bride and finally getting to marry the love of my life. The day really does go by so fast, I feel like the day was a big blur and I can’t wait to see my video. Just enjoy the day. Whatever goes wrong is insignificant in the big scheme of things. Looking back I feel so silly for dwelling on certain things.

I hope everyone finds this review helpful. I know I wouldn’t have been able to plan my wedding the way I did without previous bride’s reviews.

Hair- Nicole D’Angio A+
After going for 4 other disappointing hair trials, I was so lucky to have found Nicole. She was highly recommended to me and now I know why. She knew exactly what I wanted. I told her that I wanted to look like me but with prettier hair. I wanted something soft and romantic looking, nothing too tight or pulled back looking. She nailed it right on the money. My hair was perfect. Nicole came to my house a half hour early and started on me and my MOH right away. I have to say my MOH’s hair came out absolutely gorgeous. She even helped my SIL with her hair. Nicole is so nice and is so good at what she does. It was an absolute pleasure having her there helping me get ready. She even helped me relax when things were getting crazy and helped calm me down when I got upset about something (which I will explain later).

Makeup- Makeup by Oksana A+
What else can I say about Oksana that hasn’t already been said? I went for 2 trials with her and loved them both. But I decided to go with a more glamorous look instead of a very natural look for the day of. My makeup lasted all day and into the next morning (my makeup was done by 10:30 am and the night didn’t end until 12am). I got so many compliments on my makeup. She also did my MOH and my SIL’s makeup. They both looked absolutely stunning. Oksana also came to the church to touch my makeup up after the ceremony. Oksana is so sweet and so talented. I would use her in a heartbeat if I ever needed my makeup done again.

Flowers- Flower Michele (John) Read below for ratings-Mixed Review
I hate having to give John anything less than an A followed by tons of pluses but to be completely honest I was disappointed with some of my flowers. To start, my centerpieces were absolutely beautiful. I have to give them an A+. After changing my mind countless times about the centerpieces I finally decided on white orchids with votives hanging off the vase. I can’t even begin to tell you how many compliments I received on them. Even the men were complimenting them. But when my bouquet came to my house I almost lost it. Nicole (who did my hair) did her best to keep be calm. My bouquet wasn’t what I had asked for. It was just slightly bigger than the BMs bouquets and it looked so plain. I had asked for roses, hydrangea, orchids, and calla lilies and I had asked for it to be loose and open looking. It didn’t and I felt so jipped. I felt that my bouquet had more hydrangea in it and I had wanted more roses. My bouquet gets a B. My MOH’s bouquet which was just like mine was also disappointing (B). By the time I got to the hall, my roses were starting to turn brown and petals were falling off. Thanks to Christine Viola (my DOC), someone came to the hall and added more flowers (only hydrangea) to the bouquet to make it look fuller. I wanted more roses, but I figured I would just settle for the hydrangea. When I returned form the honeymoon, my MIL told me by the time she got to the church her corsage was half on the floor from falling apart. We ordered 7 other corsages, one was missing and the others looked skimpy and the roses were starting to turn brown (corsages get a B-/C+). My BMs bouquets however were gorgeous. I loved the colors and assortment of the flowers but their roses were also starting to turn brown. I give their bouquets an A. The boutonnieres were very nice, A+. I never received my tossing bouquet. Fortunately WCC was nice enough to make me one. The cake flowers and dais table flowers were very nice, as well as the pew baskets which were beautiful, A+ on those.

Chair Covers- Table Wear (Donna) A+
When I first contacted Donna, and told her that the WCC had fairly new chairs that didn’t fit most covers (they are much wider at the top than the average chair) Donna met me at the WCC and tried her covers on. They didn’t fit but she took measurements of the chairs and said she would have a sample of the covers within a couple of weeks. Within 3 weeks Donna and I were meeting again at the WCC to try on the new covers. They fit and they were beautiful. I chose an ivory damask chair cover with an ivory satin bow. I saw the ballroom before and after the chair covers were put on and I have to tell you, they made a huge difference. The chair covers helped make the ballroom look unbelievable. I was so happy with everything. Donna was so great to work with and did a fabulous job at making the chair covers.

Ceremony Music- MAS Music (Marie Stack) A+
After contacting Marie, she sent me a CD with samples of her work. My father who is a huge classical music fan thought she was very good. So we booked 2 violinists and a cellist. She helped me from the very beginning to pick out the songs I used for the ceremony and for the songs to be played as guests arrived. She arrived early and was very professional. The music sounded so good. I can’t wait to get my video to hear all of it. I received so many compliments on the music. I met Marie for the first time after the ceremony but I knew from the many correspondences we had that she would be great and she was.

Wild Rose Video A+
I have to say I love Marie and Bill. They are so great to work with. My family and my husband’s family commented on how great Bill was. He mixed into the crowd very well and you hardly even noticed he was there. I don’t have the finished video but I have no doubt it will be great.
They also did my Photo Montage and provided two 50 inch plasmas in the ballroom which had live footage and photos taken throughout the day. Our montage was so well done. We had close to 90 pictures with a special section dedicated to my mom who I lost last year. It was so touching and at the same time it did not put a damper on the mood. It gave my guests and my husband’s family (who never got to meet her) a chance to see my mom. My husband and I loved seeing the pictures of our day as we were eating and dancing on the plasmas. It was a great touch that we loved and our guests also enjoyed.

UPDATED: We got our video and it is just perfect. Wild Rose captured everything. They did such an amazing job and the video is so well done. We couldnt be happier. Twelfth Night A+
As soon as I walked into 12th night’s studio and saw pictures Dominic had taken of prior weddings I knew that I wanted to book him. I told my husband that if our wedding pictures looked like what I had just seen, I would be so happy. Our engagement pictures came out beautiful. Dom is so great to work and he makes posing for the pics fun. My family and my husband’s family really liked Dominic. We also had Dominic’s brother who was also great. I can’t say enough great things about 12th night. Everyone there is just a pleasure to work with. I can’t wait to see my pictures.

UPDATE: We got back over 1,870 proofs. They are beautiful. Dom and his brother did an amazing job. They captured everything. I love love love my proofs. Pics are in my community album

In the Mix DJs- A
We had a DJ and an MC. Before the reception the MC came over to verify all the info he had was correct and to make sure he was pronouncing people’s names correctly. Throughout the evening he kept coming up to us asking how we were doing and to let him know if there was anything we wanted. I gave them an A and not an A+ because they played my most play list closer to the end of the reception and I thought it should have been mixed in throughout the whole night. But many of my guests loved the music and danced the night away. That aside, everything else was great.

Limos- Royalty A+
Royalty was great. I had 3 limos; one to pick up the guys, one for the girls and one for me and my husband for after the church. All 3 limos came early. The drivers were very nice and the cars were very clean. After the reception, I was supposed to have a pick up for me and my husband to take us to a hotel. It was a few minutes after 12am and I thought the limo was supposed to be there at 12:00. The WCC called Royalty and said the pickup time was for 12:30am not 12:00am. I forgot that I originally scheduled the pickup for 12:30am but Royalty sent a limo within 10 minutes. I was very happy with Royalty.

DOC- Exquisite Affairs Productions (Christine Viola) A+
When Christine and I first met, we spent close to 3 hours chatting. I instantly liked her and knew she was going to be great. She arrived right on time at my house and was instantly on top of everything. When my bouquet arrived and she saw how upset I was with my bouquet she was on the phone trying to get in touch with Flower Michele within minutes. They didn’t open until 12pm so she offered to go to local florists and have another bouquet made for me. She was on top of everything. She took pictures of me and my husband as Dominic was taking pictures of us. She helped me with my dress, my lipstick touch ups, my vendor payments and tips and just about everything else. Towards the end of the night she had an emergency in her family and had to leave and she offered to refund all my money. She is so sweet and easy to get along with and great at what she does. I am so glad so was there for me. I know she will be very successful in this business.

Invitations and Favors- Invitations by Joan A+
Joan is the absolute best. I originally wanted to get my invitations on line, but after meeting with Joan, I changed my mind. I showed her samples of invitation styles I liked and she sent me home with a few invitation books to look through. It was great that I got to bring the books home with me and go through them at my own convenience. She helped me with everything from the invitation selection to the font and color, the wording, and the lining. I received so many compliments on my invitations. She also helped me create a nice favor box. I made a donation to the Susan G Koman breast cancer foundation in my mother’s name and she helped me create a favor tag with the appropriate wording on it that we attached to a box filled with Jordan almonds. They were a success, everyone loved them and I love Joan.

Veil and Headpiece- Denise Leli (End Products A+)
I found out about Denise through this website. I thought that after meeting with her she understood exactly what I wanted. I wanted a fingertip veil with a detachable blusher. I wanted the veil to have clear crystals and silver bugle beads. After waiting a few months, the veil that I got was totally opposite of what I wanted. The blusher was attached and it had beading and there were only clear crystals on it and it was not fingertip, it was a few inches shorter. Denise said she would be able to get exactly what I wanted in a few weeks. Well 2 months later I got my veil. It had the silver beads added on but it was still wasn’t fingertip. She said she would make another one for me that was fingertip (with less than a month to go before the wedding). Well, here it is weeks after the wedding and I still never heard back from her. The veil she gave me was very pretty and I did receive compliments on it. It was frustrating getting in contact with her because she didn’t always return my calls. My tiara is a much simpler story. I originally got hair pins (sprays) and later changed my mind and wanted a tiara. She let me exchange it for the tiara with no problems. I absolutely loved my tiara.

Shoes and handbag- Sandy’s (Massapequa) A+
The customer service in this store is outstanding. I had a hard time finding shoes that fit me properly but the ladies in this store helped me find what I thought were the perfect pair of shoes. About 5 months later, when my dress came in, I didn’t like the way the shoes looked with my dress. Sandy’s let me return the first pair and they helped me find another pair that I absolutely loved and they were so comfortable. I never took them off. I also got my bag from them, which I hardly even used, but it was beautiful.

Tuxedo Park (Westbury) A+
When my husband and I first went to Tuxedo Park to select a tuxedo, we knew it would be difficult to find one with the right fit. He is very tall with very broad shoulders and big arms with a smaller waist. He wanted to have a tuxedo that would fit him perfectly for his wedding day. Rich took care of us from day one. My husband purchased a brand new suit for himself and had a shirt custom made. It fit him very well as he was very happy with the service he received and the quality of the tux. The groomsmen were also happy with the service they received and their tuxes looked great.

BM Dresses- Macy’s Manhasset A+
No complaints here for Macys. My girl’s dresses came in earlier than expected and they gave us a nice discount for ordering so many dresses. My SIL’s dress did not fit right, we think the lining was not made right or the wrong size was sent. But either way, Macy’s ordered a new dress which came in about 3 weeks later. The new dress was perfect.
My Dress
After trying on close to 30 or so dresses, I decided on my Anne Barge gown. I was fortunate enough to meet Anne Barge at a trunk show. She helped me pick my dress out, although I already had a feeling this was the one when my MIL started crying when she saw me in it and told me she wishes my mother were here to see me in it. I loved it so much and felt like a princess in it. I had my alterations done by a private seamstress (a friend of the family). She did such a wonderful job. She also made my cathedral length veil. I bought 6 yards of tulle (from fabric.com) for $13.00. The seamstress made the cathedral veil to attach to my other veil from Denise Leli, and she didn’t even charge me for it. I was quoted $100 to have it made professionally, but it only cost me $13.00 (I’m just so happy about this, I saved so much money on it and it was the cheapest thing I got for my wedding).

Officiant- Rabbi Roger Ross A+
Rabbi Ross was great. He has such a great sense of humor and really incorporated both of our faiths into a beautiful ceremony. So many of my guests asked me where I found him because they just loved him. The ceremony was touching, sincere and so perfect for us and our families.

Dance Lessons- Arthur Murray, Bayside A+
My husband and I decided to take dance lessons because neither one of us really knew how to dance and we didn’t want to stand there and sway the whole time. Shivon was our instructor and she was great. We told her we didn’t want anything that looked too choreographed or anything with difficult steps. She helped us create a dance we were both comfortable with. I told her I wanted to be spun around and dipped. She incorporated that into the dance. My husband and I think it turned out great. Our guests especially liked the dip. We really did enjoy taking the lessons; it was a lot of fun. I even dragged my dad in for a lesson.

Woodbury Country Club A++++++
Everything was perfect. Fortunately we were the only party there that day so when we arrived earlier than we had originally told them, it was no problem. We were able to use the entire grounds for pictures. We had our ceremony in the Garden Suite downstairs and the reception in the Mills room upstairs. My bridal attendant Lauren was so attentive and so nice. She brought the family and bridal party upstairs to the bridal suite and made sure there was always enough food and drinks for everyone. She came outside with us to help me with my dress while we took pictures. Everything went so smoothly. The place was beautiful; the grounds were especially gorgeous with all the fall colors. The food was so good I wish I had a chance to eat more. My husband and I did attend our cocktail hour. Lauren brought us plates with everything we wanted and all our drinks. But because we were visiting our guests at their tables, we didn’t get a chance to eat a lot. There was so much food, and the service was great. The reception dinner was also good. My husband had the chateaubriand and he said the meat almost melted in his mouth. I had the chicken Madeira which was delicious. I have to say my favorite food there was the tartufo. It was such a success, my guest all loved it. The wedding cake was made by Dortoni’s bakery. It looked so beautiful and was also delicious. Our Matre D’, Linda, was also wonderful. She was constantly checking up on us, making sure we were doing ok and seeing if we needed anything. My husband and I were truly treated like royalty. We couldn’t have been happier with the way things went. We are still receiving compliments on how great the food was and how elegant the place was. I hope I am invited to a function there so I can really eat the yummy food that I missed.

Zion Lion- Kettubah, Chuppah rental and Easel rental (New Hyde Park) A+
I found a beautiful interfaith kettubah here and I rented an easel to display the kettubah next to the chuppah during the ceremony and then right outside the ballroom after the ceremony. I loved the chuppah, it was simple but beautiful. The customer service here was excellent. The ladies that work here are so helpful.

Honeymoon- Hawaii, Big Island (Kona)
Four Seasons A+
This resort is just paradise. After planning the wedding it was so nice to be able to be pampered and just relax. It was a quiet resort but my husband and I enjoyed every minute we spent together. We spent most of our day on the beach or lounging by the pool. The food here is also great (but expensive).
