First off I just want to say that even though I was not much of a poster, I need to thank you girls for all the ideas and vendor raves. If it weren’t for some of you, I would have never found some of my vendors (especially people like Jacqueline Nicole and Phyllis from Bridal Elegance!) This site has help and inspired me so much throughout the whole process of planning my wedding and I wish nothing but the best for all of you!

All of these pictures are Non-Professional…..they were taken by family and friends….still waiting on my proofs…

I also want to mention that most all of our vendors were booked as a “package” through Windows on the Lake because they are all their house vendors

Here we go, bare with me, I may write a lot, but I just hope I can help some future brides with my review like others have done for me..I hope I don’t forget anything!


Hair
Denise Venti A++++++++++++++++++++
I was referred to Denise Venti by my makeup artist Jacqueline Nicole. At the time I went for my makeup trial I had yet to book a hair person because the person I had in mind was already booked for my date and I now feel like it was a blessing in disguise! I made hair trial appointment with Denise and brought in the pictures that I wanted her to recreate with my hair, which she did exactly! I give her soo much credit because when I went for my trial my hair was a mess! I hadn’t had a haircut in god knows how long and it was just a mess! But she did such a great job that I booked her on the spot! I loved her sooo much, she is such a sweetheart and as soon as I got there I felt like I had known her forever. She even went out of her way to go to the Tri County flea market to pick up a hair piece that I needed for my hair style so I didn’t have to go all the way out there, she’s just awesome! The day of my wedding Denise got to the hotel at 6:30am set up shop and by 6:45 and the first girl was getting her hair done. She had 7 girls hair to do and she banged them out flawlessly and with still enough time left over to touch us all up before the photographer came. Turns out that I love her so much that she now is my hairstylist! I really came out of all this with not only a talented new hairstylist but I can honestly say I also came out with a great new friend!





Makeup
Jacqueline Nicole A++++++++++++++++++++++
Jacqueline is seriously amazing! I went to her because of all the great reviews I had read about her and she definitely lived up to all of them! In general I was really nervous of the makeup because I wear a good amount of makeup everyday, I am so particular about my makeup and I never let anyone else do it for me. I knew I didn’t want to do my own for my wedding so when I met with Jacqueline I told her my concerns and also that if I were going to get my makeup done, that I wanted it to look different than my everyday wear. She totally ‘got me’ and what I was trying to say and did a fantastic job! I got airbrush as well as a few other girls and the mothers and everyone loved it. I didn’t feel like I was wearing heavy makeup and it lasted all day/night long! My bridesmaids loved her so much that one of my girls asked if Jacqueline would travel to a destination wedding to do her makeup!





Dress (Bonny)
Moonlight Couture F
This was one of the most horrible experiences I faced throughout my wedding planning. To give you a little bit of background, my DH and I were engaged years ago, back in 2003 and our wedding was planned for Feb of 2006. However, we broke up in 2005 and called off the wedding but I had already ordered my dress. I was magically able to get my money back (it was ordered from a store in NJ) thank gosh and knew that whenever I was to get married, I still wanted to get that same dress. Well fast forward a few years, Pete and I reunited and planned our wedding for Feb 2007. I knew I didn’t want to go dress shopping again, because I wanted the same dress from years prior. So I looked in the phone book and chose a bridal shop closest to my job that I could just go in and get fitted and just order my dress. Simple right? Well I went in there and I should have listened to my gut and walked right out. I went in there one morning, explained my situation, told them I just needed to get fitted and what not. They made me wait and wait and wait FOREVER! They would take care of customers that walked in after me and I was getting so frustrated! Finally I get fitted, order my dress and was on my way. Now fast forward 5 months. The dress was to come in November. So I wait and wait and wait. The beginning of December comes still no call, so I decided to call the store and just find out what’s going on. The one lady says she will find out for me and give me a call back…I got no phone call back. Then next day I call and I get the manager on the phone and asks if my dress has come in and in such a nasty tone goes ‘well you would have gotten a phone call from us now wouldn’t you ?” I was livid! Turns out I get a phone call fro her THE VERY NEXT DAY and she tells me the dress came in, wow what a coincidence. Fast forward to my first fitting, I was there for what seems like hours, I get to the register and the are charging me $650! All I needed was the bustle a hem at the bottom and like an inch taken in on the side from being to big, nothing major at all. Stupidly my mother pays with her charge card, afterwards we realize how ridiculous that price is, ultimately I go back, tell them I want my dress and my money back so I can take it somewhere else, and they refund back most of the money. I would just like to say that the owner there, it one of the nastiest woman I have ever met in my life. She is so snotty and rude and I highly DO NOT recommend going to Moonlight Couture in Merrick.









Alterations
Phyllis @ Bridal Elegance A
There isn’t much to say here that hasn’t been said already. Phyllis is great, she was a total life saver. She did an amazing bustle and got compliments on it all night long. I rented a fur stole from Bridal Elegance that I think I wore for 2 pictures because I forgot and left in at the hotel. The only reason why I didn’t give her an A+ was because I asked her and made sure she was going to steam and flatten the bottom of my dress all around where she hemmed it because it seems crinkled from her working on it, And on my wedding day when I put my dress on, I realized that wasn’t done. You can see it in some of the pictures, but honestly I didn’t even give it much thought the day of my wedding, I could care less!


Bridesmaid Dresses (Bill Levkoff #403)
Affordable Elegance (A store in NJ) A+
I am a Jersey girl born and raised so most all of my bridesmaids are from Jersey. Instead of having them come out here to LI for dresses and fitting, we just picked a store in NJ and I went to them. This store was great, the ladies were all extremely helpful, great experience! The dresses looked AMAZING on all my girls...the back of the dress is the best part, they had long trains with a rhinestone broach...I have to get a good pic of the backs to show!







MOB Dress
Heartly (A store in NJ)
I didn’t give this store a grade because honestly I never really had any dealings with them. My mom picked out her dress without me (it was hard for me to get to NJ sometimes) and I went to this store once to see it when it came in. My mom didn’t seem to have any trouble with them at all, they did her alterations and her dress looked amazing.



Tuxes
White Tie Tuxedo A
My DH and I just happen to see this store in the Sun Vet mall because I was across the way in AC Moore getting stuff for the wedding. We just walked in on a whim and started talking to the lady who worked there, she told us that for every 3 tuxes rented, we would get 1 for free so right then and there we decided that that was a great incentive to use them. We got 3 tuxes for free. We had a good experience with them overall. The only thing was is that when some of the guys went to pick up there tux before the wedding, some of the jacket or shirts were either too bog or too small, but they fixed it all right there on the spot and everyone left with the proper size tuxes.



Flowers
James Cress B & With All My Heart A+
James Cress was a house vendor for Windows. I would NOT have booked them if they were not included in my package. Centerpieces were not included in the package and for a few votive candles and rose petals he wanted to charge me $60 per table! I looked at him like he had 3 heads when he told me that, absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention that my BOK was literally almost the same size as my bridesmaids, they told me that they were including 3 free boutonnieres and when they arrived, they weren’t even roses, they were carnation boutonnieres! Come on! Also Mr. Cress to me seemed very pushy. I told him exactly what I wanted and basically at first said no and wrote down what HE wanted to do. I wanted the girls stems tied with black ribbon, he said NO-HE wanted them wrapped in red. I of course fought and said that it was my wedding, that I appreciated his input but I would like it done the way want it. The actual flowers were very pretty and they mostly all held up all day without wilting.

With All My Heart was fabulous! I went to them on a whim, told them exactly what I wanted for my centerpieces and they totally helped me out. They charged me almost half of what James Cress was going to charge me! I also got my Unity candle from their shop. Totally recommend WAMH!

DJ
IV Generation B
Everyone from the office to the actual DJ and MC were great! They dance floor was packed all night and I had everyone and their mother coming up to me telling me how great they were. The only thing for me was I gave them a list prior to the wedding of a few songs I definitely wanted played and during the wedding I kept saying something to my DH about how the songs weren’t getting played and I kept meaning to go up there to talk to them but I kept getting distracted and never did. Also, the music was sooooo loud that some of my guests actually had to go sit in the lobby! Also, for my father/daughter dance they played the wrong version of our song! Our song was ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ by Rod Stuart and once me and my dad got to the dance floor and the music started, I was so confused! I remember saying to my dad “OMG it’s the wrong song!” They played to Tony Bennett version which was fine, but still I made SURE to note that I wanted to Rod Stuart version (I even looked at the copy of the contract they gave me with all the important songs on it and it says Rod Stuart!) but what are you going to do? It was just one of those things that in 20 years from now isn’t going to matter in the least!

Photography
ADA Studios A+ so far
Ok so Big John from ADA was seriously the best EVER! He was great! He was so professional yet we all felt like we knew him for years, such a great guy! He was organized and it made me feel at ease, I didn’t have to worry about anything! He took mostly all the pictures that I asked (after the wedding I realized that there were some that weren’t taken-but it didn’t matter!) He was never in the way during the church or the party! He wasn’t annoying and dragging us out to take pics, he made sure that we got all the shots done before the cocktail hour and once we did, he did his job, but I never really noticed he was there! I got so many compliments from my family and bridal party about Big John, I really can’t say enough good things about him. As far as the pictures go, I can’t really give that a grade yet because I haven’t seen the proofs yet.

Video
Gemini Video Productions A+ so far
This was another vendor that I never met with, we just talked on the phone, set everything up and showed up the day of the wedding! John our videographer was great! Such a nice guy! He was with us ALL day/night long until the last person left the reception! He was just like Big John, he was there, he did his job, but he was never in the way and we never noticed he was there (but he was!) So far he gets an A+


Limo
Mark of Elegance A
Another house vendor of Windows on the Lake which was great! Their wedding coordinator Sally was great because I would call her and change the pick up times almost every day which was probably really annoying. We got the 2007 Cadillac Escalade and it was sick! Amazing! The thing that bugged me which was not there fault but Windows on the Lakes fault was that we had to pay an extra $300 for an hour overtime. Windows on the Lake totally screwed us over which made us need the limo for extra time. But all in all Mark of Elegance was great and our driver, Frank, was awesome!


OOT Hotel
Islandia Marriott A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I cannot say enough good things about this Hotel and the Sales Coordinator Tarsha Brown. This woman went above and beyond to make sure not only me and my DH were taken care of, but also all of our guests and the 20+ rooms that were booked for our wedding. Whether it be email or on the phone, she was always a pleasure to talk to. She went above and beyond and I appreciate all she did for us. The front desk staff was also fantastic, especially Allison, who was there to help whenever I needed her. The suite I booked for 2 nights was great! It was sooo big it fit all us girls and all our stuff! The night before the wedding there was 6 of us girls staying in the room and we all fit with no problems. 3 of us fit in that King size bed! The only thing is that the bathroom was on the small side so that was a little annoying but we had 20 rooms booked on out floor so some girls would take showers in other peoples rooms, it was actually funny! At one time there must have been at least 15 people in the room and never once did it seem claustrophobic. It was just great!…and for the price, you can’t beat it!!! The ONLY downfall to this hotel is that the bar closes at 1am. We had a lot of disappointed guest because of that but what can you do? They can’t keep it open past 1am because there are rooms that overlook the bar. I really didn’t bother me but it’s something you might want to consider before booking there.



Rehearsal Dinner
Long Island Grill C-
We picked this place because of the location and if I had to do it all over again, I don’t think I would have booked with them. Our reservation for our party of 30 was for 8:15pm. We weren’t able to be seated until almost 9pm…the didn’t come around to take our orders until 9:45 and we didn’t start eating until after 10:30pm!! Their only saving grace was that the food was really good and the portion sizes were huge which was a big hit with my father and DH and basically all the guys there!

Audrey's Bakery
Grooms Cake A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This was one of my favorite parts of the wedding! I went to Audrey’s because of all the great reviews on this site because I decided I did want to get a Grooms cake for DH for the rehearsal dinner. DH loves poker and I printed out a few cakes that I Googled and brought it to Audrey’s and Tom the master baker (he is also a friend of a friend) worked with me on how to make it cost less but taste great! It was chocolate cake with peanut butter filling and I seriously never tasted anything so good in my whole entire life! It was huge too! Tom did an AMAZING job and if anyone who is thinking of doing a grooms cake, I HIGHLY recommend Tom at Audrey’s Bakery!



Church
St. Joseph’s Ronkonkoma B
So DH and I just recently became parishioners of this church. We met with Father Mike and he seemed so great at our initial meeting back in the summer. We met back up with Father Mike 2 weeks before the wedding to go over everything which was fine. It was the night of the rehearsal that was not fine. The night of the rehearsal Father Mike was not there and to this day I still don’t know why. So we had another Priest there who tried helping us in the rehearsal. It was just chaotic because we have a big family and a decent size bridal party and getting everyone in the same page was difficult. Then anything that we practiced on rehearsal night, like where the MOH stood or Best men, were not the same the day of the wedding and Father Mike gave us this look like we were idiots because we didn’t know where to stand, but the night before we rehearsed something totally different! In the end, it didn’t matter, but I was kind of annoyed that Father Mike wasn’t there for the rehearsal. ALSO, the music director could not be reached for MONTHS!!! I started calling him right after we booked the church because I was told to do so. I would leave him message after message after message and NOTHING. I finally started calling the church to see what was going on and they knew exactly what I was talking about how he never calls brides back. Finally it was 4 DAYS before my wedding and he called me….this was AFTER the fact that I put my WHOLE PROGRAM together and put in the songs that I wanted sung and when and he has the nerve to change to order of some things but it was already printed in the program! I was very disappointed with the music director but in the end, like everything else, it didn’t matter! I didn’t let it get me whatsoever. I wasn’t going to loose sight of what the most important part of this whole thing was…just getting married!

Reception Hall
Windows on the Lake D
I honestly don’t know where to start with this place. DH and I picked WOTL because of it’s location, the price, and the whole vendor “package” that they offer. We had also went to a food tasting there and the food was out of this world so that was another reason why we chose them. Our fist time there, we sat down with Frank A (there are 2 different Franks which are both banquet managers) and everything seemed fine. I liked Frank A, he seemed like a good guy trying to help us out, so we booked. However there is another Frank that works there, who to me and my DH, is a sleazy car salesman type just trying to get the most money possible. Now, I know that like everything else in this world, the wedding industry is a business, especially reception halls, and like everything else, they need to make money too. HOWEVER, if when we first walked into WOTL and met with this Frank first, we would have NOT booked with them. It’s like Frank A pretends to be the nice one and reels you in and after that passes you over to this guy who is just the most condescending person we have ever met with in our lives. Frank A would tell us what we wanted to hear. That first day when we booked, he said he would cut us a deal on this and that (vendors) but then that was the last time we really dealt with him and we would tell Frank #2 about what Frank A would tell us as far as prices and such and he wouldn’t have any of that. Everything was cut and dry and there was no negotiating anything!

Throughout the months leading up to the wedding were actually ok, just because of the fact that we didn’t deal much with Windows besides making our payments. The crap really hit the fan 2 weeks before the wedding. I went to make the final payment, give in the seating chart and whatnot and Frank A tells me that it was ok to come to WOTL at 5pm on my wedding day to take pictures outside, etc. He even got the big book to look in it to see if there was anything going on , which there was, he told me a “party“ ending at 4pm, but that was fine and there wouldn’t be any problem for us to come at 5-5:15pm. Well fast forward 3 days before my wedding and I call WOTL to ask them a question (I don’t even remember the question) and Danielle-she works in the office, says something to the effect like OK see you for your wedding on Sat at 6pm. So I say umm no we will be there at 5pm and she proceeds to tell me that’s not possible because there is a wedding before mine and its ending at 6pm! At this point I am at the point of freaking out, she put me on hold, goes and gets Frank A, he gets on the phone and says “Oh I guess I made a mistake, there is a wedding until 6 so you can’t come until after that” I’m like no no no you looked in the book and told me we could come at 5pm-everything is all set for that time, the limo, etc!” And do you want to know what he tells me?? His response is “Well sorry honey, don’t know what to tell ya!”-CLICK and he hung up the phone!!! CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE?!?!!? I was FUMMING pissed! So then I realize I have the limo only until 5pm..then I call them, they tell me its going to be an extra $300 for an extra hour!!! I was so upset that my mom calls WOTL, talks to Frank #2...he says that there is nothing they can do, they couldn’t even throw in cookies on the table to compensate for THEIR error! NOTHING! We even paid for 10 extra plates because we never met our guarantee and still they wouldn’t cut us a break. I hear all these brides saying how their halls would throw in this and that and we got nothing! Then the day of my wedding, we get there at 6pm-the time they told us we could come-and the other wedding is still going on!! The parking lot was a mess! People from the other wedding were trying to leave it was mad chaos! I had 20 cars following our Limo, all our families because we were taking family pics at WOTL and there was a mile long line of cars backed up all the way down Lake Shore Road trying to get into WOTL. It was a disaster! We finally go in through a side entrance into a room that wasn’t being used, I see Frank A-the banquet manager mind you- and he NEVER once came up and welcomed me or said hello NOT ONCE throughout the whole night! Not to mention our bridal attendant didn’t do anything, I saw her maybe for a combined 15 minutes-she kept apologizing for not being around much because “so many things were going on”. The bridal suite was smaller than my bedroom and it couldn’t fit our whole bridal party even if we tried, I was hanging out in the bathroom upstairs because there was nowhere to stand or sit in there! Our Maitre D was also absent most times when I was looking for him, but when he was around, he did a good job. And now the food. I hear the cocktail hour was great but I didn’t eat anything nor did the bridal attendant or Maitre D ask me if I wanted anything. I expected there to be a ton of food up there for all of us….but all that was there was a cheese platter and some Penne Vodka. Everyone had to go down to get there own food, then they would want to come back upstairs and eat it but there was nowhere to sit, so people were eating standing up! The food I hear was awesome so at least that was good. Then the actual dinner comes and one of the choices was Filet Mignon, which of course everyone got. And every single person including myself, had to send it back because they were all cooked too much…they were all well done! My dad sent his back 3 times! The first two were well done….the third was basically still alive, it wasn’t even cooked. It’s now 2 weeks after the wedding and my dad brings that up every time I talk to him! That wasn’t something I want to hear or want people to think of when they think of our wedding!

All in all me, my DH and all our guest had a great time. It was a great day and even with all the slip ups and mistakes that I am writing about right now, that day they didn’t even matter (its just that now I have time to think back on it all!) I married the greatest guy in the world, my best friend, and nothing could have ruined that!

OMG thats HORRIBLE! I can totally believe it though! He's such a jerk! It still blows my mind how that place works! UGH never again! And the funny thing is, they sent me a letter in the mail thanking us for choosing them and that they hope we come back and book future events with them...I looked at my DH and ripped the paper to shreds! AHAHA
