My 4/26/08 Wedding: The Harbor Club, Duet, Nicole D'Angio, James Cress Florist, Barattini Productions and more! Updated to include WedClean (NOT recommended).
Updated to include WedClean: I DO NOT recommend using them. I am beyond dissatisfied with their service and in fact feel that they damaged my wedding dress. I am heartbroken and their explanation is unacceptable. I am currently seeking a full refund.UPDATED AGAIN: I just spoke with the manager of WedClean who tried over and over to explain WHY these stains showed up. I said it didn't matter - had I been told before I sent my dress to them that it could look WORSE when I got it back, I never would have sent it to them in the first place. When I insisted I wanted a refund, and not for them to clean my dress again, he said fine and HUNG UP ON ME. I had to call back to ask him how and when to expect this refund and he answered abruptly and hung up on me AGAIN. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well.
When I first joined LIW I tried to post often, but then changed jobs with about a year until the wedding to go and just never had the time to get back on here to post.
However, I always found the reviews tremendously helpful, so I always said that I would come back on here to post one and make sure it was very detailed. All of my vendors were absolutely amazing - my wedding day was truly the happiest day of my life. Yes, a few things went wrong, but for the most part everything was fixed right away or I was the only one who even noticed!
I don't know how you put pictures in posts, so I uploaded everything to my album: My Wedding Vendors
If you have any questions please feel free to FM me!
Bridal Shower – Ruvo Restaurant, Greenlawn
A+
My mom is a rock star! She was super excited to plan my shower and she did an amazing job. My mother in law and matron of honor and one of my bridesmaids also went above and beyond to help, but I have to give my mom the bulk of the credit! It was amazing. Ruvo was great – we had the whole place to ourselves, the room was perfect, the food was phenomenal, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend them!
Rehearsal Dinner – Meehan’s Restaurant, Huntington
A+
Our rehearsal dinner was great! It was just what we wanted – a nice room in the back that was just the right size (we had just under 40 people – there was a bigger room but we didn’t need it). The food was excellent and the service was as well. Our RD was on a Friday night and we couldn’t even hear the crowd or live music out at the bar from where we were – it was perfect!
Invitations – Marsha, Party Innovations
A+
I knew Marsha personally before I even got engaged, but when I did she offered to help us with invitations. She had a great selection and a lot of insight when it came to current trends and wording and timing and everything! She was a pleasure to work with and had very reasonable prices. Even when she had to fly to Florida because her father was sick she had her son fax the proofs to her hotel and then called me from the hospital waiting room to discuss changes! The invitations came in on time and perfect – we went with Encore Studios, Expressions of Love line. Everyone called us raving when they got them about how classic and elegant they were!
Calligraphy – Rachel/Mrs. Honeybear from TheKnot
A
I saw Rachel reviewed on here and liked that her style of calligraphy was a little bit different from the standard. I contacted her and her prices were very reasonable, she was willing to meet me at a location convenient for me for the drop off and pick up of the envelopes, worked within my timeline and did a great job! I even had some of our guy friends comment about how they liked the “fancy writing” on the envelopes and I know if THEY noticed, it must REALLY look good!
My Dress, Bridesmaid Dresses – Bridal Reflections, Carle Place
A for sales
D for alterations and pickup
I hated dress shopping – I wanted something very simple, and not strapless, so I had a very hard time. Finally I fell in love with an Alvina Valenta that I found at Bridal Reflections. I kept looking some other places, but no one else had anything close (or even had that dress). We worked with Laraine who was a sweetheart and the sales process/service was very good. We even were able to negotiate prices a bit when it came to the dress and alterations/bustle. I also ordered my bridesmaid dresses (Jim Hjelm) through their “no frills” program since all of my girls are out of state. Again everything with ordering and buying went very smoothly. I also ordered extra fabric so I could have sashes made for the flower girl dresses. Everything came in on time and was perfect.
When it comes to alterations, however, I was very unhappy with the service. If you want details feel free to FM me and I will do my best to get back to you. I strongly recommend you get alterations done elsewhere. I was also unhappy with some things about the dress upon pickup and they offered no resolution for me, and based on time constraints I just took it with me as is.
Bridal Party Gifts – Assorted Vendors
I got my bridesmaids necklaces from Lia Sophia (I have a fabulous representative – FM me if you want contact info!), black pear earrings from Amazon, Reef flip flops from Amazon, and pashminas from Peach Couture (they were $10 each and great quality and selection of colors). Everything came in on time and I was very pleased with the quality.
We got the groomsmen engraved cufflinks from SIlverGallery.com and were very happy with them. They also got beer mugs with a Ben Franklin quote engraved on them (from Target!).
Flower girls/junior bridesmaids got necklaces made to match their sashes (and their sashes) – the necklaces were made by my matron of honor with silver chain and Swarovski crystal ordered from BeadBabe.com. The ring bearers got watches and ties, all ordered through Amazon as well.
Rings – Leigh Jay Nacht, AntiqueEngagementRings.com
A+++
I found Leigh’s website years ago, and had sent it to my husband long before it ever came time to propose. I am fortunate enough that my great-grandmother’s diamond was available for me to use for my engagement ring, so my DH worked with Leigh to pick the perfect antique-replica setting for this 100+ year old stone. I LOVE my engagement ring and knew we would go back to Leigh to get a matching wedding band. Leigh already had a ring made that matched my setting and has a curve in it so that it sits around the diamond and it was perfect! Leigh also showed us some men’s rings (that were not on his website) and the first one my DH put on he loved so we ordered that the same day. When they were ready we went back in to the city to pick them up and they were perfect!
On my wedding day, when the best man put my ring on the tray to be blessed my jaw dropped open when TWO rings fell from his hand! When we got my wedding band my DH said that one day he would get me the matching ring for the other side of my engagement ring, because he felt that completed the look. I figured it would be an anniversary present down the road. But secretly he went back to Leigh and ordered the second ring right away! He wanted to give it to me at our wedding so that they would both be blessed by the priest during the ceremony. I don’t have any close up pictures of the set, but will try to take one soon. My rings – and my husband’s ring! – are all amazing. I love them!!
Ring Cleaning – Mayfair Jewelers, Commack
F
I took my ring and my necklace to Mayfair the Thursday before my Saturday wedding to be cleaned. My family has worked with them before and they were local so they were my first choice. Well when I was leaving I noticed one of the diamonds had fallen out of the side of my engagement ring! I know that this can happen in the ultrasonic cleaners though, so I just went back in trying not to panic and asked them to please find the diamond. The gentleman who appeared to be some sort of owner or manager found the diamond and carried it (a tiny little diamond) on his fingertip over to me – and DROPPED it!! Ultimately it was found but I was flipping out. Then he told me he can have my ring fixed but he has to send it out so I can pick it up TUESDAY! At that point I started to cry (wedding nerves, sleep deprivation) – I told him my wedding was on SATURDAY. He then looked at me as I cried and said “Are you going to wear it?” I nearly lost it. It’s my ENGAGEMENT ring!! Of COURSE I am going to wear it to my WEDDING! Then he insisted I could wear it with the diamond missing – but we all see those pictures that have the close ups of the rings taken on the wedding day – I don’t want my ring to be photographed with a HOLE in the side! I understand it was not his fault the stone fell out, but if that machine can cause that to happen then perhaps you should be prepared with a solution as to how to repair it as well! I took the diamond with me and left.
Ring Repair – Devin Jewelers, East Northport
A++++++
After I left Mayfair crying I just started driving trying to think of the nearest jewelry store that had a jeweler on site. I remembered Devin Jewelers and when I pulled up was instantly encouraged by the “All Work Done On Premises” sign! I walked in and there was one gentleman in there working (he is probably the owner or jeweler – I feel terrible that I never got his name). I just said “Is your jeweler in?” and when he said yes I burst into tears all over again and told him what had happened. He assured me that not only could they fix it, but they could have it done for me by 11 am the next day. He was my hero! When I picked it up the next morning it was perfect and he wouldn’t take any money from me for the work. He literally saved the day for me at what was such an intensely emotional time! My DH went back this weekend to get a watch adjusted (as Devin will now get all of our business!), and met the gentleman who helped me and thanked him profusely as well (and then was not charged for the adjustment either!). I am very grateful to them for fixing something that meant so much to me at such an important time.
Hair Comb – Thomas Knoell
A+
After looking a few other places I stopped into the showroom with my mom and fell in love with my hair comb. I live pretty far from there though, so they were very accommodating, and I actually placed the order via email, and then my husband picked it up for me when he was in the area on business. It was a pleasure working with everyone there.
Shoes – MyGlassSlipper.com
A+
I had been searching for not-too-high, closed-toe shoes with a little something sparkly to them, and found Coloriffics “Carol” shoes online. MyGlassSlipper.com had the best price and was very easy to order from. I was very happy with them. I ordered the little petal things for inside the shoes as well, and I made it all day until about 11:15 when I had been dancing so much that I finally had to take them off and switch to flip flops!
Tuxes – Tuxedo Park, Carle Place
A+
We wanted a very simple, classic look for the tuxes, but very specific colors – charcoal gray for the groomsmen and the palest of pale silvers for the groom. We thought it would be easy but we found that not a lot of places carried both, or if they did they were too similar looking and nothing set the groom apart. However, we found exactly what we were looking for at Tuxedo Park. We had been concerned about prices but we explained how some of our groomsmen were hard for cash and most coming from out of state, so they worked with us and in the end the prices were comparable to everything else we found! Both dads rented their tuxes here as well, and my husband actually worked with them two weeks before our wedding for a black tie wedding we were going to be guests at. Nothing but wonderful things to say about them, and they even found one of the groomsmen’s credit cards in the jacket pocket and made sure we got it back to him!
Mother of Bride/Groom Dresses – The Wedding Center, Commack
A
There are many reviews of The Wedding Center on this site, and I agree with some of them from personal past experiences. However some friends of ours used them for MOB/MOG dresses and strongly recommended them. They price match and carry almost all of the designers we saw elsewhere. Both mothers wound up getting their dresses here at very reasonable prices. The alterations were more expensive than we had originally thought, but they did a great job, everything was on time or early, and both moms looked beautiful.
Flower Girl Dresses – ShopBriarPatch.com
A++
I LOVE these people. I had five flower girls living all over the country really, and I didn’t want to ask any of the moms to have to spend too much money. I found a simple dress on this site that I loved and just sent the link to the moms and they all ordered them on their own (since I was having sashes made I let them each pick whatever they wanted when ordering!). The dresses came in on time and were even prettier than they looked online. My mother in law placed the order for two of our nieces and then was out of the country when they came in, so I checked the mail and had the girls try them on, and then when one had to be exchanged they worked with me to get the process moving quickly so that we could ensure the new dress was in on time – even helped me look up the order info when I couldn’t find it on my in-laws’ computer! I HIGHLY recommend them – they were fantastic.
Flower girl sashes – I worked with a local seamstress who was amazing, so sweet, so fast, and so affordable. I would highly recommend her to anyone! FM me for her info.
My junior bridesmaids got their own dresses (long story) so I have no idea where they are from. For the ring bearers they already had black suits so we just ordered them silver ties from Amazon, I forget which vendor. It all pulled together very well though!
Hair – Nicole D’Angio
A++++++
I cannot possibly say enough how much I love Nicole! From my initial meeting with her, to my hair trial, to my second trial (because when I looked at the pictures from the first I decided I had changed my mind!), to my pre-wedding hair cut (to ensure that it would fall right when done for the wedding) she was nothing but amazing to work with. I had the honor of being the first customer in her new studio as well! She was phenomenal the day of – she did my hair as well as my mom and all four of my bridesmaids. Everyone’s hair was GORGEOUS. Only one came in with a picture (my very pregnant MOH) and Nicole was able to copy it perfectly. The others came in with ideas and Nicole far exceeded their hopes and expectations. My mom cannot stop gushing about her either. She was with us from 6:45 am until about 1:30 pm and was instantly everyone’s best friend and made the day run that much more smoothly. I got so many compliments on my hair – and the girls’ hair, and my mom’s! – and they all stayed all night long and everyone looked stunning! I HIGHLY recommend her!!!
Makeup – Jillian from Gorgeous Faces/NYBridalLooks.com
A++
After a few bad trials (some very bad), I met with Jillian and described what look I was going for. She nailed it on the first try and I booked her the next day. She was very easy to work with (and being that she is about to be a bride herself she could certainly relate to everything!) and I got so many compliments on my makeup. I have already passed her contact info along to a coworker who came as a guest and was raving about my makeup! Even when my mom was a little bit unhappy with how her makeup first came out, Jillian worked with her until they got it just right. She also did my matron of honor who wanted to be “celebrity glamorous” and she looked just like a pregnant celebrity! All of our makeup lasted all night long and never got that cakey or sticky feeling. I definitely recommend her!
Flowers – James Cress Florist
A++++++++++++++++++++++++
My uncle has worked for James Cress for 20-something years now, so there was no question when it came to who would do my wedding flowers. I had no doubt that my flowers would be gorgeous, but NOTHING could have prepared me for what I actually saw on my wedding day! I never saw samples or anything like that – just sat down once with my uncle and discussed flowers and colors and played with some there in the shop and trusted the rest to him. Everything was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I wanted bright pinks and oranges, flowers for our huge bridal party, and low centerpieces for the table (one big one in the middle then a small one on either side). EVERYTHING was gorgeous. Stunning! I think the flowers were the one thing we got the most compliments on. Even pictures cannot do them justice. My bouquet was absolutely beautiful and everything else followed suit. People literally got in arguments with each other about taking the centerpieces home (only close friends though!). By the time we got around to leaving there were only a few pieces left for us to take! The bouquets, pomanders, boutonnieres, centerpieces – they were all incredible.
Limo – Sir Oliver
A+++++
After really getting a bad feeling from a few other limo companies (ones we even had contacts at), I contacted Sir Oliver based on their reviews on here and I am so glad I did! From my initial email contact to my appointment to every follow up email and phone call, everyone there was a PLEASURE to work with. I loved the fact that they had a mechanic and garage on site, and their prices were very, very reasonable! We got a 20-passenger Escalade and were actually the first people to ever use it! Rich had just purchased it the week before. It was awesome! Rich was our driver too, and he was incredible. Right before I was about to go down the aisle with my dad he told me he had a bottle of water for me if I needed a sip before we started. It was as if he read my mind! I told him that I would LOVE some and he pulled the bottle right out of his pocket! He also had ones ready for us immediately after the ceremony too. He made sure we had everything we needed and helped all of the ladies into and out of the car and was just great to have there that day! We also had arranged for a town car to pick us up after the reception to take us to the hotel, and the driver was early, waited around while we took care of everything, and was super friendly and helpful with loading stuff in the cars.
Church – St. Joseph’s Church, Kings Park
A
This is the church my family goes to and that I grew up at, so I knew that if I got married in a church it would be here. They have a lot of rules. I know that is the case really with all Catholic churches, but they seem to have even more (no runners, no photographers past the halfway point in the church, can’t throw anything, etc.). Everyone I worked with in the Parish Center and the music director and Father Francis, our priest, was wonderful. The couple who ran our rehearsal and the organization of the rehearsal would be my main complaints, but what can you do? On the plus side they let us take pictures at the church longer than I thought they would once the ceremony was over.
Reception Hall – The Harbor Club, Huntington
A+++++
My mom already was very familiar with the Harbor Club and Matt (the catering manager) from some work events she had helped plan there, so we knew we were in good hands from the moment we sat down to discuss my wedding with him. We walked out of that first meeting knowing that we were done and this was the place, and never had a single worry along the way. Everyone there was a pleasure to work with, they included everything I could have hoped for and more! They accommodated my requests (late night hot dog cart, no shots allowed until after dinner is served, special cherry soda brought in for my dad, etc.) and made sure that everything ran smoothly. We extended the reception by an hour so that cocktail hour was an hour and a half and the main reception was four and a half hours with no problem. When we got there for pictures an hour before the start time they had food and drinks ready for us. Donna, our maître ‘d , was wonderful and Kelly, our bridal attendant, was amazing. She had a fresh drink for me before I ever even finished one! She made a plate of every single cocktail hour food for each of us so we could sneak away and eat quickly during cocktail hour and then head back out to finish saying hello to everyone. For dinner they also had a plate made with all three dinner options on it! Anything we asked for or wanted they took care of – and then some! We were lucky enough that despite an overcast day, the skies cleared and we had beautiful weather and a gorgeous sunset for our cocktail hour so people could enjoy the deck and the tiki bar! Everything was amazing and our guests have raved about how nice it was and how great the food was and how wonderful the service was. When I found out that we had a few no-shows I quietly asked the banquet manager to have their seats removed from the specific tables and they were done long before anyone ever got in the room. They were phenomenal! I hope that one day I am invited to another event there so I can go back and enjoy it all over again!!
Dance Lessons – Arthur Murray, Huntington
A++
Sean was our instructor and he was the best! We actually really loved everyone there. My husband bought me the intro package as my Christmas gift, but we later bought a bigger package too, because we really enjoyed it and wanted to look good for our first dance! We still have some group sessions left, so as soon as life returns to normal we will go back for those. Everyone there was a pleasure to work with – we had so much fun at the practice sessions and guest nights too. I highly recommend them!
Music – Barattini Productions
Company, DJ, Emcee - A++++++
Pat Davis, Percussionist – A++++
Kandace Miller, Pianist - B
I have known the owner of Barattini Productions for 10 years now, and his business literally started in my parents’ back yard with two stereos and an assortment of CDs. Now he has an amazing business and I was thrilled to be able to work with him. While he and his fiancé came to my wedding as guests, he made sure that everything I wanted was the best he had to offer and even managed to enjoy himself and let his staff do the work! Our DJ and emcee were phenomenal. Everyone was dancing all night long. They played the perfect mix of music to suit everyone’s taste, and at the perfect times. We were having so much fun that I think they wound up playing five more songs AFTER our “last song” and the party was supposed to be over! It was amazing. And there was not a single delay, or song skipping, or any technical difficulty which I can honestly say may be the first time I have ever experienced that – at basically every event I have ever been to with a DJ there has been some minor problem at some point (microphone feedback, speaker buzzing, something) but these guys were PERFECT!
We also hired Pat Davis through Barattini Productions to play drums along with the music for the reception and he was amazing. It is so much fun to add the live element to the music. He did an amazing job!
We hired Kandace Miller based on Barattini Productions’ recommendation (she now can be hired through them as well but we booked before they established this partnership). She only gets a B because despite my following up over and over about the timing and how much it would cost when we added the half hour, when she printed out the original sheet to bring the directions with her she looked at the start time on there, which said 7:00, and forgot that we had actually changed it to 6:30. I was rather annoyed that my guests had arrived and she was nowhere to be found (but the Harbor Club was great and piped in satellite radio music). When she was finally reached on her cell phone she was almost there and confused as to why we were so upset since she was in the mindset that she had until 7:00 to start. In the end she was there for an hour and she was excellent, but getting the start time wrong is a big issue to me, which is why I had to lower her rating.
Photography – Duet Photography (Alberto & Nick)
Engagement Shoot – A+++++
Day Of – A+++++
Proofs – A+++++
We found Duet on this site and after visiting just a few photographers knew they were the right ones for us. We chose not to have a professional videographer for a variety of reasons, so having the traditional and photojournalistic photography was very important to us. We worked with Alberto and his assistant Nick. We first met Alberto at our engagement shoot and he was wonderful. We had a great time and we LOVED the photos when we got them. We picked one for our signing board and it was a HUGE hit with our guests and we love having it rather than a guest book. We can’t wait to have a house so we can hang it up somewhere cool (our apartment is too small!).
The day of both Alberto and Nick were incredible. They were everywhere. Just when I felt like I had lost them I would turn around and there they were. I have no idea how they can be everywhere and invisible at the same time, but they did it. They were great working with our families and the group of kids we had in the bridal party. We had a blast doing the bridal party photos too - we were cracking up the whole time! They were also very accommodating – I had requested that they take some family shots of relatives and extra photos of the amazing flowers for my uncle and they did everything we asked of them and more.
I got the call that my proofs were ready on Tuesday, May 13 – less than two and a half weeks after the wedding! And they are all AMAZING!!! I am beyond thrilled. They captured everything. I have no idea how I am going to go from the 2,000 images down to just 60 or so for our album! Everyone is so happy with them. My coworkers booked with Duet based on our recommendation before our wedding, and after seeing our proofs will likely request Alberto and Nick as well. The photos are incredible!
Photo Location – Vanderbilt Mansion, Centerport
A+
When the 10-day forecast became available and called for cold rain and wind on my wedding day I panicked and began to search for a photo location that offered both indoor and outdoor options. The Vanderbilt Mansion was en route from our church to the hall, and a beautiful spot, so I was thrilled when with just over a week to go I called and they happened to have availability. While you have to pay for 2 hours and I knew we would have less than one to spare, I still booked them. Everything was simple and easy and done over the phone and the pictures are AMAZING!
Hotel Block/Wedding Night Hotel – Hilton Long Island, Melville
B
While I guess the Hilton didn’t do anything wrong, overall I walked away with a slightly negative feeling toward them. Our contact person there changed FOUR times over the course of the one year between the date we blocked off rooms and our wedding date. We also booked one shuttle/van through them, which was rather expensive for what it was, but we wanted to make sure our friends had a safe ride back after the wedding. The bar stayed open late and the security was nice enough to not kick out a large, drunken groomsmen who was wondering around in the hotel kitchen (??) at 2:00 am, but many people had problems with their keys not working – myself included, at 3:00 in the morning (therefore I was NOT happy). They also would not hold the room block/rate any later than March 31 (our wedding was April 26), so we were concerned that people who hadn’t finalized their travel plans might not get rooms, but they either didn’t come or stayed elsewhere anyway.
Honeymoon – St. Maarten
Our honeymoon was actually a gift from one of my husband’s clients, so we didn’t do any research when it came to where to go or stay, but we had a great experience and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about our trip. We stayed at the Sonesta Maho Beach Hotel & Casino on the Dutch Side. It was gorgeous and we had a great stay there. We flew Jet Blue and they were also great – we got in early on both flights, and they helped us tremendously when the gods were against us and we got to the airport at 9:04 for our 9:40 am flight there!! We will definitely stick with them for any future travel. If you are considering St. Maarten please feel free to FM me – I have lots of great places to recommend!
DIYs – Place cards, Programs, Menus, Table Numbers, OOT bags
After we picked our invitations I used them as the main theme behind all of these other items, and bought paper to match them and used them to make everything else. I bought almost everything I used at AC Moore and Michaels. I bought everything for the OOT bags at Costco for the most part. We had a subtle baseball theme to the wedding so our place cards were actually little tins of mints that looked like baseballs (purchased from Mets.com) that I tied “gift tags” to as the place card part. We also made a donation to the American Cancer Society instead of favors.

That's great! I am sure your wedding will be wonderful!
We kept the hot dog a secret from almost everyone and had them roll it out at 11:30 (our reception ended at 12:30) so that enough time had passed since dinner. We also had a subtle baseball theme, so we had them play 'take me out to the ballgame' as it was rolled out - kind of the 7th inning stretch for our wedding! Everyone loved it! I am sure Matt can help you set it up if you want to include it at your wedding.
Feel free to FM me if you have any questions about any of the locations!

Thank you! That isn't even a good picture of my ring (and the flowers made both of our rings look yellow, but they are platinum and white gold). Leigh's rings are amazing!
