Our 10/22/06 Review (Woodbury Country Club, 12th Night, Timeless Treasures, Flowers by Burton, Jillian from Gorgeous Faces, Denise from djchic.com, CJB Designs and much more) - UPDATED w/ VIDEO REVIEW
Well I wanted to thank all the ladies that helped me with my wedding and gave me some great ideas. Our wedding was very personalized with all the touches that we wanted for our wedding day. I really didn’t start posting on here until after the wedding, but I really found the site useful & resourceful.I woke up on time and had some breakfast. I really wasn’t that nervous, I just wanted to get to the church and marry my soulmate. (The funny thing was I got to the church before him, because they were sitting in traffic. LOL! Wasn’t I the one that was supposed to be late?) Our flowers arrived early and along with the flowers were a surprise from my soon to be husband. He had also ordered 3 flower arrangements for the hotel room we were all getting ready in and spending the “night of” the wedding in. They were the same type of flowers being used in the bouquets and in our centerpieces. It really made the room look really pretty and helped decorate the room more for the pictures to be taken. It really put a smile on my face and in my heart that he wanted to make me feel special that morning. I knew I was marrying the right man.
My review will be based on a 1 to 10 scale with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best. These are just my experiences & opinions of these vendors.
These are non-pro pics until I get my proofs in. Will update with proofs in a couple weeks.
Weather: 10
Our wedding day was beautiful. We had great weather all day. It was supposed to rain, but it never did. It was in the low 60’s and got a little windy towards the later afternoon, so the pashmina’s that I bought for all the girls and myself really came in handy
Reception Hall – Woodbury Country Club: 10
woodburycc.com
They were great! Our BM was Mike. He was great every step of the way from beginning to end. When we arrived their staff greeted us. They took all the bags from us and put them into a room until our Bridal Suite was available. We went outside and look lots of pictures. When the Bridal Suite was ready, they just moved everything over for us. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous for our October 22nd wedding. All the flowers on the grounds were all in autumn colors. Some of the trees were even turning already. All the fountains were going which looks great in pictures; day or night. We were even able to use all the grounds for our pictures because they didn’t have a wedding going on yet downstairs. Are cocktail hour was great, from what we hear. We had a seafood table that everyone just loved. It was a great touch and we are glad we were able to have this extra station at our wedding. The seafood is very fresh, right along with all the other food. I would highly recommend going for the food tasting if you are interested in this hall. You need to make an appointment and get a little dressed up to blend in with the event going on there, but well worth it. We were let into the room (the Mills Room, 2nd Floor), when it was ready for us to view it. OH MY GOD, it was beautiful. Everything was in its place. The room was gorgeous. Our Centerpieces really made the room. All our little details were out, like our menus and our card box. All the candles were lit that went with the CP’s and everything looked gorgeous. All the details really came together. Well the only little thing that was wrong was our wedding cake. It still looked beautiful, but there was a miscommunication with our BM and us. We should have just gone to Dortoni Bakery right before the wedding to show them what we wanted, but I just didn’t have the time. But the cake tasted great and in the end it wasn’t really a big deal. Besides the two little things that happened (2nd thing explained under Maitre’d), we had a great time and so did our guests. I would highly recommend the Woodbury Country Club to anyone. I hope to go back as a guest one day, so I can enjoy all the great food.
Bridal Assistant: 11 (Jessica)
We had Jessica as are Bridal Attendant. She did an amazing job. She went way above and beyond her duties. She is very nice and personable with everyone. While we were taking the pictures she kept getting everyone drinks and food. Holding my bo-k and dress and on top of all of that she was also training someone to become a new Bridal Attendant, so she really had her hands full that day. We actually tipped her more then they had suggested. We thought we had her for the whole night, but her part of the day ends when our reception starts. We were very happy to have had Jessica and she really was a pleasure.
Maitre’d: 7 (Kathy)
We were upset with our Maitre’D, she wasn’t that great. We had Kathy as our Maitre’D and she just wasn’t as nice as Jessica was. Kathy did do her job for the most part and the wedding ran the way we wanted it, but I have read a lot of other reviews for WCC and was a little disappointed by Kathy’s service that day. There were a couple of times that she annoyed us. Example - she asked us three times if we wanted to go to our Cocktail Hour and we told her no the first time. And she processed to tell us we are really missing something good. We didn’t want to go. We wanted to make are grand entrance at the reception. There were things she didn’t seem to know about our wedding also. Details of our wedding that our BM knew about. The details still were done after we had to ask her or tell her that something didn’t happen. So someone didn’t do his or her job. I really can’t point the finger at any one person though. We weren’t really upset about this that day or after. It was a little thing and that is all it was.
Grooms Cake: 11
dortonibakery.com
I wanted to do something special for my DH that day. He loves his BMW so that is what I had made into a cake. I took pictures from all four sides of the car and gave them to Dortoni Bakery. They did an amazing job. The cake was well worth its money and well worth the smile that I brought to my DH face. It was chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling. He loved it. It tasted so good too. I had it brought out right after the best mans speech and my DH didn’t know what was being rolled towards him. But when I saw that smile on his face as he realized what it was and it was for him, he gave me the biggest hug. I highly recommend them. Everyone is still talking about the Grooms Cake. This is the bakery that Woodbury CC uses.
Flowers by Burton: 11
flowersbyburton.com
We couldn’t have been happier with all the flowers for our wedding. My bo-k was gorgeous, exactly what I wanted it to be and more. The BM bo-k’s were beautiful too. They were just a little different from mine. They were all tried in matching ribbons to their dresses. We wanted just a little something for the church pews, so we had tulle bows with “Bells of Ireland”. The light green color that they are was one of our colors and they were perfect for the pews. We also had two alter arrangements that were in fall colors. Very pretty. We had white Calla Lilies for the bout’s. My DH was a little different – they added Stephanotis to his. Our centerpieces were gorgeous. When we walked into Burton’s they had a real display of the CP that we thought we wanted and when we got to the CP’s on the order form, we just said, “that one”. We changed some of the flowers, but it was the look we wanted. We would recommend Flowers by Burton to everyone. They have great prices, very friendly, very helpful and everything we wanted is what we received the day of our wedding.
Photographer: 10
twelfthnightphoto.com
We can’t say enough about Twelfthnight and their team of photographers. Dominic and Anthony were our photographers for the day. I can’t begin to say enough about Dom. Very personable and very funny. He kept us laughing the whole time and we got a lot of great pictures. We have only seen a few because we were in the studio recently, but just the few we saw – WOW – amazing! Dom is a really great photographer. One of the reasons we picked Dom was because of his great personality. When we took our e-pics with him and we laughed the whole time and it was fun to take the pictures, we really knew that we had picked the right photographer. We also picked Twelfthnight because of their amazing work. We had met with a lot of great photographers before we met with Dom and after we met with Dom we came back and booked with them. We had two photographers. Dom was there for the first half of the day starting with me and the girls at the hotel and ending right around the cocktail hour. Anthony, one of Dominic’s other photographers started with the Groom at his parent’s house and was with us for the rest of our wedding. Anthony took a lot of great pictures too. We took some great pictures at nighttime outside with the fountains. He showed us after he took them and they looked great. I love digital! Throughout the day they would show us some of the shots they had taken. It was great to be able to see them right when they were taken. We would highly recommend Twelfthnight to everyone. We can’t wait to see the finally product.
UPDATED - after receiving our proofs, we were so happy and amazed by the work that Twelfthnight did. We got 1300 pictures. They are so amazing. It is going to be so hard to pick our album. Lots of detailed pictures, everything we wanted our day to be.
Videographer: 10
timelesstreasuresvideo.com
Ray is really great to work with. He was everywhere the day of the wedding, but you really didn’t see him. Even when you thought “I wish Ray were getting this”, then you would see that camera and knew he was getting every second of it. He is very easy to work with and we can’t wait to see our video. So far our experience with Ray has been great. I have seen some of his work and that is why we pick Timeless Treasures.
UPDATED 4/27/07: We just picked up our video last night. We LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! Ray is very talented. The video came out beautiful. It made me cry. It was great to re-live our wedding over again. He makes 3 DVD's and each comes in it's own case which he customizes to look like a movie cover. Like I've already said, he is very talented. We HIGHLY recommend Ray. He was places we didn't expect & caught things on tape that some people will probably wish he hadn't. LOL! But seriously, I can't say enough about Ray's talent. He truely captured our wedding day the way we had hoped.
More Than Music - DJ: 9
hanklane.com
They are the DJ company for Hank Lane. We really liked how they presented things when we meet with them and they were the kind of DJ we liked. All of our guests seemed to like what DJ Tom was doing. To bad we missed a lot of the dancing. There were a couple of things that weren’t being done and I had to ask him to do them, but besides that he was great. It was just little things like when I asked him to play certain songs at certain times, he didn’t, but played them later and we wanted the CP to be given away and he waited a little too long for that and I had to remind him before anyone else left for the night. But like I said besides those two things he was a great guy and great DJ. Oh yeah and he really loved playing 80’s rock music, so that was cool, because that is what we wanted throughout the night at different times. We ended the night with multiple 80’s hair band songs. It was really fun. That is when I was really out on the dance floor. I would recommend them to anyone.
Jacob Joseph Salon in Lynbrook - Hair: 10
This salon was recommended to me by my MOH. She has used them in the past for her updo’s. So I went and had a trial and I loved the work that Josephine did, so I booked her. I booked my mom, MOH and three of my bridesmaids also. Josephine and Shannon did all of our hair. Everyone loved how their hair came out. Some updo’s some half updo’s. My sister (one of my BM) and my mom have gone back for haircuts after the wedding. Their prices are really reasonable for updo’s and half updo’s. A really nice bunch of ladies work there and I would highly recommend the salon to anyone.
Jillian from Gorgeous Faces - Make-up: 11
nybridallooks.com
Jillian was the first and last make-up artist I went to. I loved her work so much that I booked her on the spot at my trial. Pictures are in my Planning Album. My mom also got her make-up done the day of the wedding. My mom loved it. I also loved the make-up she used so much that I’m still using it and order it through her all the time. She uses all mineral products and they have been great on my face. Jillian is such a pleasure to work with. She is very sweet, personable and VERY talented. Try her out for your trials ladies. I would highly recommend Jillian to everyone. I will be going back in the future to use her for other events.
Alexis Limos: 10
alexislimousine.com
We got the Ford Excursion and the Cadillac DeVille. Me, the BM & my parents had the Excursion from the hotel to the church and the Groom & GM had the Cadillac from home to the church. Then my husband and me had the Cadillac to ourselves on the way to the Reception Hall. And the Bridal Party had the Excursion to the Reception Hall. We got a great deal and they were easy and nice to work with. The limos were clean and the drivers were helpful and nice. They have a nice selection of limos and they are owned by the Scotto Brothers. I would recommend them to everyone.
Ballroom Dance Long Island: 9
ballroomdancelongisland.com
Well this was something of a last minute decision that we started about a month before the wedding. We had a great time and a lot of laughs. My husband wasn’t the greatest dancer, so we thought this would help. We had a whole routine for the whole first dance. Well I panicked at the last minute and forgot the routine. But my DH came through and saved the day. He stepped me through part of the routine and then we invited everyone else up. We did do the dip right before everyone came up and I’m sure there are great pictures of that. And everyone was clapping for us, so that made me feel better. I would recommend dance lessons to anyone. We had fun doing it and John from Ballroom Dance was very patient and nice to work with. We just needed more time so I would have remember the whole routine.
DJChic: 11
Djchic.com
Garter, Ring Pillow & Dress Tag
This is a very talented vendor. I met Denise on The Knot. Very sweet girl and a pleasure to work with. Everything came out gorgeous. I gave her some thoughts on how I wanted my Garter & Ring Pillow to look and she came back with great ideas. I would highly recommend this vendor.

CJB Designs: 10
cjbdesigns.com
I found this vendor through The Knot and LIW. Cortney was a pleasure to work with every step of the way. I sent her pictures of what I thought I wanted, but I wound up picking jewelry that was already on her site. She is very talented and everyone loved their jewelry that day. I even bought some jewelry for myself for everyday use. =) I would highly recommend this vendor.
Barrons's Tri-County - Tiara & Veil: 10
What more can I say but, great prices, great selection and great service. All the people that work there are so nice and helpful. They custom make Veils too. Whatever length you want. I really didn’t know what I wanted for my tiara. You can try on so many different kinds until you find the one that suits you best. I bought my tiara on the spot and then ordered the veil. It was in within a couple of weeks. I would highly recommend this vendor.
Tri-County Jewelry Exchange – Gold Star Jewelers: 10
My DH had already bought me some jewelry from this place while we were dating, so we already knew that we liked their jewelry. My BIL had bought their wedding bands there too, so we already knew we would probably check this place out when it came to getting engaged and then married.
Bell Formal - Tuxes: 9
Located in Bayside on Bell Blvd. They have a great selection of Tuxes and all different vest and tie colors. We went a couple of months ahead of time to try and figure out what we wanted for the wedding. Then we came back about a month and a half before the wedding to make the final decision. We had to make some changes in the style of the jacket for the groomsman, but kept DH jacket the same. We had a good experience with this place except for the fact that when we changed the jackets they also had to change the shirts. So on the day of the wedding some of the guys were wearing one kind of collar and some another. Not that big of a deal. Otherwise all the guys looked great in their tuxes.
Macy’s Bridal Center of Manhasset – Bridal Dress: 9
When I ordered my dress, I hadn’t gone to too many other places and panicked a little. I’m sure I could have bought it some place else cheaper, but the people at Macy’s were pretty nice. They aren’t perfect, but pretty good. The manager there at the Manhasset store, Josephine is great to work with, but the other employee’s that I had dealt with weren’t always that friendly or helpful. But the seamstress is very nice. A pleasure to work with. There were only two things that I didn’t like too much at this place. They didn’t have it pressed when I was scheduled to pick it up and I came back in 45 mins to pick it up and when I looked at it before I left, there was a big crease in it. I was told I had to wait another 15 mins after I already waited for 1 hour for it to be pressed in the first place. I asked for the manager Josephine immediately and she got it done for me in 5 mins. And the other thing was that I wanted them to sew in my dress tag that I got hand made for me, and it was still just pinned in. I didn’t realize that it was just pinned in until I went to put the dress on the day of my wedding. So luckily we had thread and my mom sewed it in a little bit just so it would stay in place. So all in all, everything else with my dress was perfect. It was altered correctly and fit me the way I wanted it to fit. It is a Demetrios from their Princess Collection. I fell in love with Demetrios dresses from the start, so I knew this one was the one when I tried it on.
Lynbrook Bridal Center - Bridesmaids Dress: 8.5
Well the ordering of the BM dresses was the easy part. I didn’t have a problem with which dress, because I decided on Alfred Angelo separates, which really worked out. Each BM chose a different top and they all wore the same A-line skirt. My MOH choose her own dress and so did my Junior BM, but they were still Alfred Angelo. We were happy with the colors and we placed the order in enough time. Well the problem came when the dresses had to be altered. They only alter dresses on certain days because they were down one seamstress, so that made it hard to get an appointment. When the alterations were done on some of the girls, they didn’t come out the right why. So 2 out of 5 girls had problems with the alterations. They were fixed in the end, but that made for a lot of trips for the fittings. And they were very backed up, even when they gave you an appointment. I think they double booked some girls. All in all the place tries to make everyone happy. I would recommend the place to others because they have been around for years. I guess the service at the time wasn’t that great due to the lack of seamstresses.
Beautiful Bride (Lynbrook) - MOB Dress: 7.5
My Mom wore a dress by Obsessions Haute Couture in Chocolate. This store has not been around for that many years, but this is where my mom found her dress. We had shopped around in a lot of places and my mom really wanted a certain kind of dress. Anyway, we ordered the dress – no problem. The dress came in on time – no problem. But the problem or aggravation came with the alterations. My mom went to her first fitting without me and she had her alterations done. She went back in a couple of weeks without me again and when she tried on the dress the alterations hadn’t been done yet. They were just lightly stitched into place. My mom was really mad because it was just about 2 weeks before the wedding at that point. No matter what in the end, my mom looked beautiful
Hampton Inn & Suites: 10
I booked this hotel well in advance. We had 2 connecting rooms. It was more then enough room for us to sleep the night before and get ready in the AM the day of the wedding. DH and I spent our wedding night there too. Nice hotel, not to expensive, free upgrade continental breakfast every morning and the rooms were very nice and clean. The staff was also very nice. I picked this place mostly for convenience to my hair salon and the church. I didn’t want to have to travel to far. They are located in Rockville Centre on Sunrise Highway. I would recommend them.
Invitations: 11
1800myfavors.com
Galleria Favors is located in Farmingdale on Route 109. They are very nice people. The place is small but you can get favors and invitations there. Jennifer and Joyce were the two people that we had dealt with there. If you buy your favors and invitations there you can get a deal. It didn’t work that way for us, but I think it was like a 30% discount on your invitations if you buy your favors there too. We fell in-love with our invitations, so we bought them from Galleria. We even customized our wording on the invitation. We were even able to get the color invitations we wanted. We had gone some place else and saw the same invite and they said they couldn’t change the ribbon color on the invite, but Galleria was able too. Of course every invitation manufacture is different, so you just have to get these stores to call the manufacture for you, so you can get what you want if the manufacture will do it. We spent a little more then we wanted to, but in the end we loved them so much, so that is all that matters to us. We were looking to stay within our color theme and it look elegant and that is exactly what we got with these invitations. We did our own direction cards though. That was fun to do. I would highly recommend this vendor.
La Confetteria Del Cuore - Favors: 10
Laconfetteria.com
They are located in Whitestone. They sell products like Lladro, Vera Wang, Wedgewood, Armani, Swarovski, Lenox, Waterford, and custom made favors from Italy. They have a nice selection. My MIL paid for our favors, so she had picked the store where she would get the best deal. She knows this place and likes to shop there. DH and I picked out the favor and then we had to pick out the wrapping paper and the Jordan Almonds. (Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat, to remind us that life is both bitter and sweet. Five wishes for the new husband and wife: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity). The wrapping came out gorgeous. We made the favor tags and gave those to the favor store to put on. Our favors were 4 coffee mugs with a stand.
Wrap with Us: 9
Wrapwithus.com
We bought our personalized coffee & tea bags from this vendor. They are located on Long Island, in Syosset. You can go and pick up your order when it is ready, so you don’t have to pay for shipping. We selected a fall theme label for the coffee and teas bags. This was a great addition to our coffee mug favors. They were the cheapest and the most convenient. Great place to check out. We put the coffee & tea bags into brown organza bags that fit perfectly. They put all the bags into a basket. We handed these out with our favors.

Shoe Elegance Ltd. – Shoes: 9
They are located in Lynbrook across from Lynbrook Bridal Center. If you buy your dresses from the Bridal Center you get a 10% discount on your wedding shoes. Or if the Bride buys her shoes from there then all your BM will get the 10% off discount on their shoes. Free dye and also free dye to black after the wedding. They have odd hours, so make sure you call before you go there. They have a good selection of shoes and the people that work there are very nice.
Blessed Sacrament Church
I can’t rate a church, but I can give you my experience of that day. Deacon Kevin was nothing but great from the day we met him. He liked to joke around with us and always kept things on the light side so we didn’t get nervous. The day of the wedding was nothing different. He made some light jokes that kept us calm. The church is beautiful to start, so we didn’t decorate too much. Nothing went wrong for the ceremony. I was pretty calm or as calm as you can be on that day. It was somewhat of a blur, but everything was beautiful and the way we wanted it to be – just perfect!
Save The Date Magnets: 10
magnetstreet.com
I love their choice of magnets for the STD’s. The price was right for us and we were even able to change the saying on the magnet to something that we wanted. I ordered them online and within a few weeks we got them and then we sent them out when it was time. It’s a nice size magnet and the quality is very good. I would highly recommend them.
Paper Source: 10
Paper-Source.com
I used Paper Source because they had the colors I was looking for. The prices were pretty good and the quality of the paper was good as well. I kept ordering paper every time I ran out and the turn around time is pretty good. You can buy in small quantities or bulk quantity. Either way I thought it was a pretty good deal. Great selection of colors! I would highly recommend them.
My DIY Projects
(Programs, Favor Tags, Table Numbers, Menu’s, Card Box, etc.): We loved doing our DIY projects. I wouldn’t have done it any other way. My DH helped me with every project, right along with my Mom and one of my bridesmaids. Without them we wouldn’t have finished them all on time. The DIY projects take a lot longer then you think they will so start ahead of time. Make sure you check and recheck over and over again before you print, because you waste a lot of paper that way. LOL! It was a nice personal touch to our wedding. Everything came out better then we had planned and it was worth every minute that it took us. We even put a little “Designed by J&N” on the bottom of a lot of the projects. And our guests notice that too. It was a great feeling when someone would say “oh those menu’s were so nice. Who did them?” and I could reply “we did”! It was a great feeling! (Look for all my pictures of my DIY projects in my DIY Projects album)
H&M: 10
I purchased our pashmina’s there. Couldn’t beat the price, unless of course I went into the city. They were only $10 each. All the girls got one and me too. They really came in handy later in the day. Well worth the purchase.
My Wedding Advise to All of You Future Brides
Enjoy your wedding day! Don’t let others separate the two of you. Enjoy each other and your wedding, because it goes by so quick. I always read other brides reviews saying that it goes by quick, but I didn’t think that quick. Stand back from the party and soak it all in. Little things will happen that you find out about that day and some things that you won’t know about at all, but don’t sweat them – it isn’t worth it. Let someone else handle it if something has to be handled. Smile and dance a lot! Play the kind of music you want and don’t try to please everyone. There are a lot of great ideas on the internet to make your wedding yours! Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy every minute of this process, because within a few hours it is all over with. But in the end, you are marrying the person of your dreams! Always enjoy that part!
