MY LONG AND VERY HONEST REVIEW
East Wind Estate
July 1, 2006

It was the absolute best day of my life! I could not have asked for better weather...It was an absolute A day...what was suppossed to be a rainy weekend turned into the most gorgeous day! I married the love of my life and nothing could have gotten in the way! I had the best time!

LIW- A+++++++++++++++++
I got so many ideas from LIW...but even more I got a place to vent, a place to 'talk' with people, get to know others who were going through the same happiness and yet the same stress as me. Thank you to all of you who made planning my wedding even more exciting!

Now on to the review!

Hotels for out of town guests: Cant really rate- but both were fine! The INN rooms are beautiful, a bit expensive but very nice… Best western- was accommodating… I had no problems with either.
The Best Western in Riverhead
The Inn at East Wind-

Sir Oliver- Total Rating : A
Before wedding:
Met with Rich, who was beyond friendly. They rate HIGH for customer service. He stayed on the phone with me to answer any questions I had, and even spoke to my mom who had more questions. Then when we met in person, once again he was accommodating, helpful, and that is why I requested HIM as my driver.

Day of: Rich was not my driver- so I was disappointed, but they sent Joe- my other request-HOWEVER he was driving the bridal party and not me. I heard from the bridal party and our parents that he was fantastic…he even took my mother’s shoes on and off since we went to the beach for some pictures. He was a very nice guy! My driver- I can’t even remember his name made me more anxious than I already was at my house waiting for the other limo- he was telling me that the flights at JFK always run late and that I should plan on it and should have a back up plan since we needed a transfer- told me that I was exactly right to be nervous since I was making the BIGGEST decision of my life- all true- BUT did I really need to hear this when I was already getting nervous. He was a nice guy though- also made sure my shoes were put on lol-since I had to take them off and put sandals on at the beach.

JACK- Pick up/drop off for limo! This man happens to be the sweetest man I have ever met in my life. He is an older gentleman and is so kind. He was interesting too- had lots of good stories to tell...so friendly. On the way home from the airport after the honeymoon I was feeling ill- was getting 'sick' he pulled over TWICE and offerred to get me tea/water whatever I needed. I felt silly and embarrassed but he was really comforting. I never actually got a chance to say goodbye to him because when I got dropped off at my parents I went right inside-feeling sick again...I feel terrible because of how nice he was to us.

Heart and Soul- a Franklin Wayne Band: A-
Saw them at showcases and LOVED them! Showed the DVD to others and they loved them, which is why we booked!
I spoke to the bandleader fairly often through emails and he was accommodating. They learned several songs for us, including one in Spanish for my DH and his mother. Apparently, it was not the greatest rendition according to DH but they tried and for the non-spanish speaking guests it sounded great. I was happy they learned everything we wanted them to.

The dance floor was PACKED all night long- They were AWESOME! DH and I danced all night long and had the absolute greatest time! However, they played 95% younger music-Which was great for the younger guests but there was limited “older” typical wedding songs and only 1 or 2 slow songs…I would have preferred a bit more, but it was no big deal. Also, one female singer who was in the contract was not the singer who was there-BUT the one who was there was just as good!
The one slight negative was that I planned on tossing my bouquet to all females(not only single) and DH was tossing garter to all males…and then I would dance with the garter catcher and he would dance with the Bouquet catcher- They did the first part correctly, but then they had the bouq and garter catcher do the typical put it on the leg thing- THIS WAS NOT supposed to happen-especially since they were Brother and sister in law… What could I do though? The bandleader came over and apologized and asked if we wanted to do it then, but we said no…we wanted to continue with dancing…Other than that, I would HIGHLY recommend them. They really made the party a success. Their voices were incredible! They were fun, entertaining and I can say I REALLY enjoyed dancing at my own wedding!

Adrienne’s- MY GOWN- F!!!!!!!!
The day we bought, we dealt with the owner who was very nice, helpful, and honest with me. She didn’t try to sell me the MOST expensive gown, she knew the one I was leaning towards, saw it in my eyes and said along with everyone else, that it was THE gown. However, I was told the gown would be in the beginning of November. Late October came and I called to make sure the dress would be on time. I was told that it would not be in November, it would be in MARCH. I was upset, even though it left me enough time. I ordered in February and I knew it would not take a year and a month to get the dress in. I spoke to the owner and she said not to worry, it would be in December. So, early January came and I called and there was no dress. I was told it would be in March again. Once again upset, I called to speak to the owner…she said she would track the gown down…well she called later that night and told me that the gown was coming in the following Thursday. So, that made me happy, but I was nervous all throughout…

First fitting- I worked with the owner again- she started out very nice until it came up that we did not get the headpiece or the veil from her- She became abrupt and not nearly as helpful and before she was even completely done working with us she started helping someone else who was having a dress custom made $$$$$$$$$-She saw dollar signs for sure!

2nd fitting- I worked with Chris- She could not have been nicer to my mother and I. she saw imperfections and problems with the dress and promised it would all be taken care of. I was with her almost 2 hours- felt like passing out-she got me water and was really sweet.

3rd fitting- This is when the problems really began. Nothing that Chris pinned and wrote down EXCEPT for the hem was completed and it was now the week of the wedding! The top was still crooked, the bustle was incorrect (I asked for a double bustle), the bodice area still had too much material and was bunching. Plus, all the beading still needed to be fixed… I was so upset…Cleo came down and assured me that everything would be taken care of. Chris came in that day and also said that it would be fine- She was supposed to be the one re-beading and said it would be perfect.

We had to go back TWICE that day just to have the dress fixed since both times it was still not perfect! We were told to pick the gown up the Friday before the wedding- Wedding was Saturday. We refused and said it needed to be done and ready Thursday evening. Chris said that she had plans and would not bead the dress- Cleo told us that she was the best- Needless to say, Chris refused to do it… MaryAnn, the owner said it would be ready at 5:00pm. My mother went at 5:30 to give some extra time…dress was not ready. Once again, she asked her to come back on the Friday to pick it up. Once again, we refused. She said they had a lot of brides this weekend and many gowns to do. This is exactly the reason why they should NOT wait til the last minute to do them all. It is a busy holiday weekend and brides should not be worrying about their gown ONE day before their wedding! To make matters worse another bride was in there at the same time having similar problems with her gown. Earlier in the day there was a girl in there with problems with her bridesmaid gown, and that evening a mother of the bride was in their with problems with her alterations…she was tall and they made the dress ankle length …their answer was-and we heard the girl- You will need to get different shoes! Anyway, in the mean time another bride came in and was supposed to be leaving a deposit for her gown but saw all the problems that were going on and left. Maryann came down and yelled at my mother and threatened to call the cops because she said she made her lose the sale! We welcomed the cops since we were having so many problems. We still had no gown and it was 7:30pm! Finally, it got there…mom checked it over with a fine tooth comb, looked good! They took it back upstairs to put it in the bag…got it home- opened it up and there were beads coming off of the train!

This bridal salon caused me NOTHING but grief days before my wedding! If it were possible to stand outside the store and tell people not to go inside I WOULD! When I first bought my gown there, I praised them…even when others said that they were not good-they took tags off and lie about the designers (which they did to me too- said my gown was “their own design” yet when I got the gown it was a private label by G) I praised them, the place is pretty, when we bought they were so nice… BUT, they truly changed and every bad thing I heard about them is true! I would NEVER recommend them to anyone ever!

In the end- I looked beautiful, everyone loved the gown, and no one noticed the beading at all.

Helen’s in Commack- Bridesmaid gowns- A-
Service day of choosing was acceptable. They weren’t on top of us or pushy and that was great, but maybe a little more attention would have been appreciated. Overall, I think that the service that day was fine, nothing to rave about but NOTHING to rant about either.

However, I think they told my girls to buy a bigger size than they really needed…because all of them were HUGE! They did not have their alterations done there.

The flowergirl and JR. BM had their dresses altered there and they were perfect!

DUET-Photographer-
Day of: A (Jay and Mathew)
Sue/Nicole didn’t always respond to my emails in a quickly, but eventually they would get back to me. On a positive note, the engagement pictures were taken by Jay, in November ‘05 and they came in a timely manner. We got 95 proofs and it took 3 weeks. They mailed them to us in Connecticut too so that we didn’t have to wait even longer to get them. In addition, they sent a CD with all the photos taken, 215 proofs total. I can’t even tell you how fabulous the proofs are. They were creative and unique. Jay made us feel comfortable and we had fun. The session was 2 1/2 hours long too, and we went to 2 locations, Port Jefferson and the duck pond nearby.

Jay and Mathew were THE BEST! I gave Jay some photocopies of photos I wanted and I know that they got them done- : ) I was excited! He was everywhere…all over the place! Mathew went to the hotel with my DH and his GM and Parents- Dh said he was great too. I am so excited to see my proofs!

Ray- Timeless Treasures VIDEO
Day of: A
Ray was early and stayed til the last second! He was also everywhere at all times…I am excited for the actual video. He made me feel so comfortable and was so calming in the morning of the wedding…quiet and calm personality, great to work with! MY father in law didnt even realize we had a video-when we went to show him , he was surprised...Ray is everywhere-yet out of your way!

Video- A
My video is beautiful! Ray did a fantastic job! His use of the scenery is like I have never seen in a wedding video-if you dont like the CHEESE of some wedding videos-and want CLASS Ray is the guy!
One DVD came skipping but I told him and he is sending out another one!
I did feel like there was not a lot tapped during the cocktail hour-but thats the least of my worries! The dvds are exactly what I wanted!

I highly suggest getting a videographer for your wedding and HIGHLY recommend Timeless Treasures

DOC- Rosalie-A
Even before the wedding day Rosalie was helpful!
She would send emails just to say HI, and see how things were going with the planning. She was there to answer questions I had, and there to lend advice when things got sticky. She didn’t have to do this, since she was a DAY OF coordinator for me, but she did and never seemed to mind. She truly loves what she does!

Day of the wedding, she arrived early at the hair salon…from then on in she did not sit down to relax. This woman was the energizer bunny! Everything was taken care of, I never had to worry about anything! Small snags along the way were taken care of… She was relaxing, calming, gave me mimosas when I got nervous, always had a drink ready for me, was my lipstick applier, had people following her, helped my cousin with a ripped dress, made sure I ate… was just everywhere. One thing she did forget to do though was have the pillow boys pillow ready-so he did not walk down the aisle with it- I was a bit sad for a minute, but really it’s not a big deal! She was the absolute best! Worth every penny ! If you do not have a DOC yet, HIRE ROSALIE and HIRE her FAST!

Favors: Oriental Trading- Breast Cancer –Find a Cure-Ribbon Car Magnets (along with a donation) A
Bought them mid October- they were set to be delivered on Nov. 1st. I ordered 18 dozen of magnets. They were delivered on time and the quality is very good. I highly recommend using them.

Favor Pillow Boxes: Uline.com A
They were so easy to order from. They came quickly and were perfect for the favors!

Makeup:

Trial #1: I was set to have a trial with Jacqueline Nicole. The day of the trial was also the day of my engagement pictures and I was coming from Connecticut…all which she knew. I showed up at her home and she was not there. Her father was and he told me that she had an emergency. I am not cold-hearted…I know emergencies occur, however the professional thing would have been to call to let me know. I have to add that after she knew how upset I was at her and the situation, she called, left a message and said that she would do my makeup for the wedding for free. It was not worth it to me, since I would be worrying if she would show up…but it was a kind offer.

Trial #2: Jackie- I Make Up You :B+
My trial and my mother’s trial was beautiful. She was so sweet too! LOVED her, we booked her! We both got the airbrushing and it lasted al night! Only thing I reapplied was lipstick. My Bms looked amazing, my mother looked amazing…I wish My eyes were a bit different now that I look back at some pictures…BUT everyone else seemed to like it.
One thing, She got to the hotel Late-she left my house late- but was “missing” for a half hour- it should have only taken her 10 minutes to get to hotel from my house-to get to DHs mom and grandma-This in turn made the Groomsman, DH, and parents late for church…which made me late for church.

Invitations: B+
We went through Rosalie to get our invitations. They were Carlson Craft, simple, square invites. She helped us get a great price. They came quickly except they were a bit bent and not properly and evenly cut on all sides. It was noticeable. I let Rosalie know and literally two days later I had an entire box of new invites which were then perfect. I did not have to return the faulty invites, which was good too.

EAST WIND:
Before wedding: B
During Wedding: A
I fell in love with the Estate, specifically the cocktail hour rooms…they are so beautiful!

Our first BM was Frank- He was def. a used car salesman type- apparently that’s why he was no longer there by our 2nd appt. with East Wind. BUT, nevertheless we booked with him.

At the 2nd appt we had-there was Jennifer- she was completely NOT helpful! Everything we asked she said she needed to talk to her manager…It became annoying because we received no definite answers. She also made mistakes when writing information down- such as the candy bar at the end of the night, she said it would be set up by Rosalie-my DOC- that was not true. We also put in that we wanted pictures near the staircase, something Frank told me was possible if we got there at 6:30pm.

3rd meeting- We had John- I did not go- my parents did since I am in CT. Final payment was made and info was confirmed…HOWEVER he told me I would not be able to take pics at the staircase at 6:30pm anymore- He said I could get there at 5:00 so I agreed. My parents said he was very helpful and really nice.

Now, a week before the wedding my mother gets a call saying I can no longer take pictures anywhere BUT the Estate…I got upset since I was promised these other pictures. I called up John myself-and I will admit that I was snippy wondering what the heck happened with my slot that I took and Frank had promised. He made a snide remark –“well you got everything else in writing , why didn’t you get this…You even got the kind of champagne written down, If it were true what you are telling me about the pictures than you would have had it in writing.” So basically he called me a liar. I told him that Frank had told us that it was customary and that it did not need to be in the contract. Finally, he did say that Frank probably did promise it to me…cause Frank promised a lo t of things that are not true and that’s why he is no longer there. And that the reason Frank didn’t want to put it in the contract was because he knew it would not happen. I got really upset- I was not “calm” at all…I fully admit this- HOWEVER I am the customer so to speak and it is his professional job to remain PROFESSIONAL and he did not. His comments were rude and his tone was unacceptable. When I asked to speak to a manager above him- he said he was it and that if there was a problem he would be who I speak to. I said that there had to be someone above him and I wanted to speak to them. He said the only person was the owner…I honestly do not know if that is true, but whatever. It became a heated argument and basically I started crying- Then he calmed down and said he would call me back if there was anything he could do.

It is after the wedding now, and I am still waiting for the phone call back…

HOWEVER, The East Wind really came through the day of the wedding! My day was gorgeous! We had some extras at the cocktail hour- upgraded Hords., sushi bar, champagne and strawberries on arrival, Raw Seafood Bar…Everything was perfect! People are still complimenting all of the food! We were truly treated like king and queen. Joyce was the Maitre D and was TERRIFIC! Everything ran smoothly. The asked people for seconds…don’t know how many took it though since there was so much food throughout the night. We had the Duet course- spinach salad with shrimp- it was yummy- they knew I wanted the mushroom tartlet and they had it there for me! Incredible! DH and I both had stuffed shrimp and filet mignon and they came back to ask if we wanted to try anything else, but we were so full. I had time to eat, but I could barely get it down since I was so excited and wanted to dance, Afterwards I was craving it!

I did not taste the cake, DH said it was okay… BUT it looked beautiful! Pink and white flowers- Buttercream…it was really nice! Chocolate cake with one side strawberries and the otherside some sort of irish cream or something- cant remember…
There were also platters of cookies/pastries and chocolate covered strawberries on the tables…YUM! This was great! One thing they did not do though was offer cappacino and espresso-people had to ask for it- They were supposed to offer it.

We did have a bridal attendant and I do not remember her name- but she was really sweet and between her, Joyce and Rosalie we were WELL taken care of!

Open House Country- Florist: A
I saw about 11 florists and none of them gave me the same positive vibe as Nancy did. Her ideas and creativity were amazing. Her price was good and I was pleased to book her.

My bouqet was gorgeous- roses, stephonotis (Sp?) and some other smaller tiny flower- I cant remember. Beautiful!
I LOVED my BMs flowers...they were outstanding and my mother and mother in law got small nosegays, both very pretty as well. Although flowers were falling out mid day...they were still VERY pretty!

The pew bows/flowers were out of this world! I loved them...I did not even notice them the day of the wedding-BUT in the pictures they came out terrific.

My centerpeices were more than I ever expected....about 3 dozen pink roses-low- in a cylinder like vase- with beading around the outside and 'pink' stained water. LOVED THEM'

the one thing I wish was different were the boutineers (sp?) They were really small and falling apart early on in the day. Luckily we had an extra for Dh so he changed it. BUT, they were not very nice at all.

Ballroom Dance- Fred Astaire Dance Studio in CT- A
We learned the Foxy- a more up to date Fox trot with a little rumba for our first dance and I must say we looked really good out there and got lots of cheers. We learned some other dances as well, but really wanted to focus on the first dance. Monica was such a sweetie, very patient and really a good instructor

Save the dates- Agiftfulheart.com- Kathy A
She was so easy to work with- changing fonts/backgrounds- really quick and efficient. They all came quickly and on time. I liked working with her.
UPDATE:

Headpeice and Veil- Denise Leli- A

We went to Denise's house to see what she had. there were tons of choices! She was so helpful. She forgot that we were coming but made the time for us , sat for at least 1-2 hours. She took everything out and put the ones I liked to the side and we tried them ALL on. I found one I LOVED...We kept it to the side-then she pulled on out that I was like OH NO- not that one- She told me to wait and put it on-it went on differently than I expected and much to mys surprise it was like NOTHING I had ever seen. It was the 'new style' and very 'European' acccording to Denise. I LOVED IT. OF course it happened to be on the more expensive side BUT it was different and I wanted different! We got that one. Than I got a cathedral veil with satin ribbon edging. She gave me some hair pins for nothing and also scattered some crystals on the veil. Also, there was a blusher attached. I must say it was stunning! Everyone commented on my headpeice and how different it was and beautiful!

Celebrity Cruise: Meditteranea Cruise to santorini, mykonos, rhodes, athens, Kusadasi, Istanbul,Capri and Sorrento, ending in Rome

A- (we had a FABULOUS time- we had a good mix of relaxing and sightseeing. However, I could have used one more day in there to rest...The places we saw were beyond amazing! The service on the ship was fantastic (I have been on 4 cruises and the service on celebrity was by far the BEST) The food at night -amazing choices- I got to try things I would never try at home ie:frog legs and Dh had escargot and loved it-YAY now he may got to French restaurants with me
Than of course they had a lo of food we knew and loved...including lobster tails.
ONLY one night did we order 4 dinners and we did not like any of them. Weird...but it was an 11 day cruise -and if ONE night was not the greatest OH well...: )
We met MANY honeymoon couples and the first day at sea they hag a cocktail party for us all to meet. It was nice. The ship had an older crowd BUT there were so many honeymoon couples that it didnt matter-when we went to the bar/club at night All the younger people and some older ones too were there, partying...drinking...having fun! It was a good time.
The pool was average to other cruises
The buffets during the day were average
Our room had a panoramic window- not one of those really small portholes which was good- I loved having it. The stateroom was large enough-and the attendant was very much on top of things. He was friendly and kept our room very clean two times a day!We both loved it and were tempted to book another right away

Shoes-Craft Shoes-A
I got the LOVE KNOT shoes with the 2 1/1 inch heel. Those shoes may not be the prettiest shoes (they are simple) but they were the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I have terrible feet and shoes always seem to hurt me. I usually wear heels-even slight ones daily because DH is tall- so I knew I had to have a heel. I tried on every shoe there! Then the guy brought those out and they were by far the WINNER! It looks like a nothing shop on the outside and like an older person shop on the inside but they have every shoe and will bring them all out no problem! I highly recommend!

With all my Heart in PJ- A
We used them for lots of odds and ends-including the unity candle. How wonderful were they! OMG the nicest people you will ever meet! they had everything we needed, returning was no problem. They held twounity candles for me and ordered me another so that I could see which one I liked the best! REALLY sweet people, on time, average prices!

MY SHOWER- was in CT in Milford- A
If anyone is interested in details let me know

MOB dress MEIKA in Woodbury
A-
My mothers dress was gorgeous
Alterations were great
A bit expensive so that's why the minus but she looked SPECTACULAR

MOG dress- Davids Bridal in CT- C
She was looking at dresses and no one was helping. I had to call the lady over to ask for a dressing room and she left and NEVER came back. When we finally wanted to order one she still didnt come over-told us 'hold on' she was not doing anything behind the counter. I asked for someone else and they came over. Asked why the other girl was not coming over- said I didnt know she disappeared the whole time.
Dress gets ordered-
When it comes in-I did not go with FMIL
she looks and it is a totally different dress! Wrong dress, wrong size wrong everything! They made a huge mistake and it was a month to the wedding!

She reordered...it came in on time.
I did not go with her....but she said the lady told her she did not need ANY alterations. Got the dress home and she DEF. did need alterations. Hem was too long-dress was too big on top-
We did not go back there- we just went to a local dry cleaner who did alterations and they did it quickly...BUT in my opinion the dress was still too big. She looked very pretty though

Your honesty with everything is very refreshing. I will definitely NOT be going to Adrienne's now. I'm sorry you had to deal with that nonsense. Can't wait to see pictures! Congratulations!

thanks for your review...sounds like you had a great time dancing all night!

im happy you like heart and soul bc i have them as well as EW :)

my BM is Mike and he is great. he told me the reason estate brides cant take pics at the in, is because the Inn brides will be there and they dont want the brides to see each other. (unless there is no wedding at the Inn that day then they can maybe work something out.

cant wait to see your pics!!! :)

CONGRATS on your wedding, sorry to hear about your experience with adriennes. I know the owner is a real WITCH, when I first started looking at gowns Maryann was helping me and I can tell she was in a rush because she was slamming gowns over my head and my mom and grandmother saw it. I got pissed and shoved the gown off my head and gave her a look of (OH NO YOU DIDN'T) and she had someone else come over and help me. I have my first fitting in august so lets see what happens.

Re: My July 1st review PART 1 east wind, adriennes, heart and soul, timeless treasures, rosalie,Duet

Congratulations on your WEDDING! I can't wait to see some pics!

I was also an EW Bride - I had Joyce the day of too, and absolutely loved her and Diane, the bridal attendant. I too, was somewhat disappointed with some of the service beforehand - even my BM kept assuring me it was OK to take pics at the Inn in case of rain, but I wanted it in writing. We blocked rooms as well, and even had our RD there and a brunch the next morning, and loved it all. In the end, I was as pleased as you were with EW.

I'm sorry to hear of your dress experience - my mom was the friend to the MOB (Conigs25's mom) you saw there having dress alteration problems. My mom bought her gown there as well, and we had nothing but issues. Mary ann, the owner, always seems to be running around in her gym clothes, on her cell phone, and paying attention to anything but her business and customers. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I'm sure you were gorgeous in the end though.

AND, I also had Jay as my photographer, who I LOVED. I am so anxious for my proofs! I can't wait to see yours too!

Congrats once again! Great review!

It sounds like you had an amazing day! Congrats! I'm sorry you had to deal with rude people. Why couldn't you take your pics on the staircase? Did they give you a reason? Congratulations again-can't wait for pics!!!

To be honest- I get the reasoning behind the pictures, but I hate being told I can do something just to find out a week before the wedding I cant...and then to not call me back is rude too. And since I offerred to go earlier I thought it was weird, But in the end it didnt matter much! I got MANY beautiful pictures and was thrilled with them...at least the unprof ones (which I will post soon)

It was an amazing day...I wish I could do it all over again!

CONGRATS!

Can't wait to see pics!

Sorry about FRANK, boy do I remeber him! I refused to give them any $$ until I saw someone else. My exact words were 'you should be selling cars, not in the catering biz'. He had no compasion and being in sales myself I wasn't falling for his BS!!! So I am 100% glad he is gone and now I have been dealing with MIke and only Mike very sweet and nice and takes his time explaining everything! I wish shannin was still there, she was great as well...

Anywho I am glad your wedding day was beautiful~
