Oct 24th Wedding Review-Old Field Club w/photos

Oct 24th -Vendor Review (scale is A for best, B for moderate and C for terrible)
The Wedding was great. I will review our vendors but they were all so wonderful and I have never been happier than I was on that day. My only advice is to make sure you take a breath because it flew faster than I could have imagined. Make sure you also get your bathroom kits together. My left bra cup fell out of my dress when I went to put it on (I can laugh now) and thank goodness I had a sewing kit in the bathroom. Also, careful what stockings you buy (I accidentally bought toe less- who ever heard of this…luckily someone had an extra pair in my size and color). Also, MAKE SURE THE GROOM EATS SOMETHING THE MORNING OF THE WEDDING. That’s all I’ll say, he didn’t get sick but came close, his color came back during the ceremony.

Invitations: Carol’s Place A
Carol has been doing this out of her house for many years, she was a huge help and carries tons of different invitations at 25-35% off. If anyone wants her number let me know.

Bridal Gown: Vera Wang Sample Sale A
I highly suggest buying your dress at a sample sale if you can, especially if you book your wedding within 6 months of the big day (like we did), I saved 75% off my dress. You find your dress and walk home with it (cash and carry), no dealing with dress shops that make you pay extra for rush delivery. You do have to find a seamstress (not a problem) and you do have to get it cleaned by a professional (I took it to Dun-rite Cleaners in the city on 38th b/w 7th & B’way-they did an excellent job).

Bridal Jewelry/Bridesmaid Gifts: Designer Pearl Outlet A
I got this from someone on the Knot. I was having trouble finding something I liked. They had a huge selection, delivery was free and my necklace came out prettier than the picture on their web-site (www.designerpearloutlet.com). Then I went back and bought necklace and earrings for the entire bridal party.

Bridesmaid Dresses: www.netbride.com A
We had a bit of a challenge because 3 out of 5 bridesmaids are pregnant (we ordered extra fabric in case). Jim Hjelm makes the same exact dress in regular and maternity sizes. They beat the bridal shop by $80. They also came in a month earlier than quoted.

Groom & Groomsmen Tuxes: Ricco’s (East Moriches) A
They were great to deal with and all the men looked great. I also think their prices were better than other places and of course the groom was free. They are also open late on Wed & Fri which was a big help.

Officiant: Rabbi Karol A
Rabbi Karol was awesome. He actually made us do homework and met with us 5 times before the big day. Which helped him to really get to know us and personalize the ceremony. Everyone kept telling us how beautiful ceremony was.

Flowers: Sugar Magnolia – Heidi A+
I cannot begin to tell you how amazing the flowers were. I went to a bunch of florists and when I met Heidi I just knew she had to do our wedding. I wanted someone who was creative and understood my style. She picked up on it right away. The shop is located in Stony Brook. Let me know if you want the number, I notice they are not mentioned enough.

Music: Gary Lovett Band A
Gary is wonderful to work with; I just felt over the months that I really got to know him well. He really spent time with us, in person, on the phone and via e:mail to understand our music tastes so he could give us the best music for us.. At the wedding I felt like he was an old friend and very comfortable with him leading the music. He’ll put together a band of musicians that will rock your socks off. We had an 8 piece band and they were fabulous. Everyone kept raving about how great they were also. For the ceremony the keyboardist played our requests and for the cocktail hour we had the keyboardist and guitarist play some jazz music.

Photographer: Flash Rosenberg A++++++++++++
Flash has been doing weddings for years. She’s more of an artist than a typical wedding photographer. She also happens to be my first cousin and this was her gift to us (I know she saved us a lot of money). But, outside of this fact, she’s still amazing. She mostly does work in NYC, but if anyone is interested let me know and I will give you her number. Also, I like the fact that she’s a woman, most wedding photographers are men.

Videographer: Ballarino Productions, Inc. A++ (so far…haha)
Their website is www.bellarino.com. It’s a husband (filming) and wife (Kate-does the editing) team and their base is Massapequa. Phil is great; I didn’t even know he was there. I think he worked well with my cousin. They both have the same style. I will let everyone know how the video comes out. They actually started our video montage before the wedding date. I know some places take a long time to get the video back, ours should be done in two weeks.

Makeup: Makeup By Elise A+++++
OK, Elise is my SIL. She was a make up artist a few years back and gave it up. I do not know why. I looked the best I have ever looked thanks to her. She came with me and my Mother and helped us buy makeup at the Prescriptive’s counter at Bloomindales in Walt Whitman (see Phyllis who runs the counter-she also does make up for weddings). I think she’s thinking about going back into the business and starting her own business (probably with my help after all I’ve learned a bit these past few months). If she does it would be for next season anyway.

Hair: Sharyl A+
Sharyl has been cutting my hair for 6 months now and she is wonderful. She’ll come to you. She was there at 6:30am and single-handedly did hair for 6 adults and two children. If anyone wants her phone number, let me know.

Cake: La Bonne Boulangerie A
The cake was really really good. They are located in Port Jeff and are a bit pricy but totally worth every penny. We dealt with Corey the owner. They also own Dortoni’s in Levittown. We had a 4 layer cake; every other layer was vanilla/chantilly filling and chocolate/chocolate mousse filling. Once everyone saw the chocolate they wanted that, and there wasn’t enough to go around. But that’s life.

Ceremony/Reception: Old Field Club A++++++
We worked with Marvin the banquet manager. He was great, always available to answer my silly questions. The day of, he was right there the whole time whenever we needed anything. I would not recommend this place for parties of over 170, it’s small and quaint and very much a New England atmosphere. I loved this place the second I saw it. It’s not your typical LI wedding place. Cocktail room is a bit small (the weather changed last week to cold and it was not comfortable to be outside like we planned) but guests were able to go wherever they wanted and some of the older guests found their seat early, and it was fine. I have never seen so many empty plates at a wedding before. No joke, everyone raved about how the food was the best they have ever had at a wedding. What I was able to eat, was fantastic. We had them wrap up the cake and some pastries for us, which we ate later.

Misc:
We bought little mini-Hershey wedding favors (I never did get to eat one or save the wrapper from one) and table camera’s off The Knot website. They came out great and I think the prices were the best. I wouldn’t buy table cameras with more than 15 exposures; we got some dumb pictures and wasted money to develop them.

MiniHoneymoon: (going on long HM in February somewhere warm and sunny)
New Paltz for hiking. Stayed at the Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa on the Hudson River in Milton, NY. Beautiful rooms, great breakfast and service. Highly recommend.

These are the amatuer photos.
