Finally updated with pics link at bottom..!Bridal Shower: Waterzooi A+
my shower was a suprise.. (sort of) and my mother and my sister (MOH) planned most of it. My bridesmaids planned all of the games and organized everything the day of. The restaurant was very cute and had the 'bistro' feel that I love. It was a brunch and the food was incredible. my favors were a mug filled with a chocolate covered biscotti, personalized tea bag with my name and the date of the shower and rock candy. they wrapped it in a baby pink sheer organza bag. My mother in law also got a second favor which were these adorable cookies that were either a bridal gown, purse, stiletto shoe or lingerie.. they were a hit. she got them from this french bakery.
Venue: Oceanside Jewish Center A
My 'husband' (weird) and I originally didnt want to get married in a temple because religion is not an important part of our lives at all. However, we went to look at it and felt it was perfect. We worked with Rob who is with Presedential caterers. Rob was wonderful and did a really great job. He had some great ideas and was very flexible with everything. The food is really good and they offer seconds to everyone. Our cake came out perfect.. (i wanted a really pale pink fondant) We got a lot of compliments about the food from traditionally picky people. The wait staff was also very accomodating to everyone.. we got compliments on how nice they were. At the end of the night they break up the centerpieces and wrap up flowers for every woman to take home.. we also opted for a bakery to go.. they had everything from black and white cookies to fried dough and there were waitstaff to put everything into bags for our guests to take home.
Band: Times Square Orchestra A++
I cannot say enough about this band.. they truly made our wedding. They played incredible music and really know how to judge the guests. They learned a song that we wanted for our recessional and did it perfectly. We also had our hearts set on dancing to a fiona apple song and they learned it and sang it great. They also performed a lot of up to date music/dance music really well. Mary Anne is the woman I dealt with most and she was helpful in all aspects of our wedding and gave us great advice. Most importantly, this band takes no breaks.. they are very professional and also reasonably priced. i highly recommend them.. they were the best!!!
Florist: Masters & Co. Rockville Center B-
I was very picky about my flowers and didnt want to get lost in the shuffle.. i also did not want to be told what was nice.. I met with michael from masters and thought he was great. The centerpieces came out wonderful and we had a really cool suspended chuppa that looked great. The bouquets, bouts, corsages and all the little extras looked great too. My bouquet was all stephanotis (sp?). the bouquet came out really cool and my only complaint is that they dipped the flowers in parafin wax to ensure that the flowers would last. It looked ok, but they did not tell me about this until the day of when they dropped it off.. Also, the bouquet was very $$$$ and imo was not big enough. my bridesmaids bouq. werent big enough either.. they looked fresh, but definitely not worth what i paid for.
Photographer: Silverfox TBD
Our photographer was Frank and he is a doll.. he has a great personality and is very professional. the photojournalist we had was Randy and although this was not the original photojournalist we picked he was very nice and seemed to take great candid shots. the photographers did not seem to hound anyone and took a ton of candid shots without bothering me or my husband for pics (which is what we wanted) I will update the review once i get the proofs.
Dress: Kleinfeld A
Keisha was the sales associate that helped me.. she was great!! They have a great selection of gowns and do not limit you or hound you to make a decision. Once I put on one dress.. i knew it was the one. It was a justina mcaffrey dress, alexia II. I decided to wait for the trunk sale which was a few months later to get the 20% off discount. My seamstress was such a doll and she did a great job.. she did not rush me at all and she was constantly double checking everything. overall, it was a grea experience.
Bridesmaids Dresses: Bridal Salon of Manhasset A-
The store has a great selection of gowns from Vera Wang, Lazaro, Amsale and Jim Jhelm. I chose a full length Vera Wang dress for my bridesmaids and got 15 or 20% off the price. They charge a lot for alterations ($90), but they do not mind if you take the dress elsewhere. In fact, you get more of a discount if you take it elsewhere.. However, one of my bridesmaids became pregnant and after initially telling them she was getting it altered elsewhere she changed her mind and they told her that they couldnt accomodate her. It was not last minute either. All in all, all of the dresses came out great and they were all on time. they are not the friendliest bunch, but they were ok to work with.
Junior Bridesmaid Dresses: Juliette bridal (Upstate NY-where I live) A
dresses came in on time, they were very nice to deal with. The dresses were from Eden Bridals and very inexpensive.. I didnt want their parents to spend a fortune!
Groomsman attire: Mens Warehouse C
We went with them only because it was convenient and we had groomsman from all over. They are not the nicest to work with and I had to double check that they got our order correct a few times.. each time there was a mistake. my father in laws tux came without a tie and my husbands tux was too short. they did fix the problems and they were nice about it.. i highly recommend trying everything on before you leave the store!! also, one of our bigger groomsman was given a different vest and told that they dont make vests that big. when he told them that he had discussed this when he was fitted they argued for a bit and then finally went into the back and brought him a sample. luckily it was fine and fit perfect.
Veil:Veilshop.com A
I originally wanted a silk tulle veil but it was just too expensive. I knew i wanted a chapel legnth veil with a blusher, but i did not want to spend a fortune since i would only be wearing it for the ceremony. The veil came to about $80 and was exactly what I wanted. It came exactly when the estimated time was, which i think was about two weeks. they sent me emails to track it too. good deal.
Shoes: Nine West A+
You can check them out on the website.. they were the closed toe sling backs (about 2.5 inches) I wore my shoes the entire night.. plus, we danced the whole time! the shoes were comfortable and IMO good quality for dyable shoes. They were reasonably priced also. i got them on sale for $60
hair/Makeup: Nubest Salon in manhasset A -
My hair and makeup came out great.. mervat did my hair and Charles did my makeup.. my only complaint is that they charge more for bridal makeup (and there is reall no difference) and if they do anything but a blow out (curling iron to the ends a simple bobby pin) they bump up the price and consider it an up do. they were very accomodating and i had a lot of family and bridesmaids there with me as well. Its not a quiet atmosphere at all though.. its quite the operation!
Favors: White Aisle.com A
We bought just the favor boxes which came with the ribbon and the cardstock already on them with our names and wedding date. They came out great and the website has a ton of color options. I fell in love with this website.. there is a lot of great stuff. definitely worth checking out.
Invitations: AV Costa A+
this is a place upstate by me in Albany, but they were great. They have a huge selection but not too much high end stuff. I ended up getting picking Crane invitations. Although they were on the pricey side, I lucked out because the place gives free thank you cards with every order over $400 so I saved money there.
Honeymoon: Greece A+++
The honeymoon was amazing.. we went to Greece and spent two days in Athens (Athens Hilton), three in Mykonos (San Marco) and three days in Santorini (katikies). we had a great time.. good food too. Katikies was by far the greatest hotel (we liked santorini the best) the san marco was a great hotel, but a little out of the way from town.. once we got back to NY, my husband surprised me with a night at the four seasons in manhattan (where we got engaged) The four seasons is absolutely amazing although too expensive :o( there 5757 restaurant is very good and the breakfast is definitely a must do atleast once.. its delicious!
I think thats about it.. enjoy and FM me if you have any questions! Ill post pics when I get them! I live upstate and I cant wait to pick everything up!!!
