civil servant?

Hi,
We are having a reception and civil ceremony in Long Island.
Does that mean that we have to get marriage license in Long Island or NYC city hall?
Can a civil servant from NYC marry couple in long island catering hall?
How does it work?

The license is a state wide license. This means you can get it anywhere in the state and use it for a ceremony that is held anywhere in New York.

I don't know exactly what you mean by 'Can a civil servant from NYC' marry you on Long Island.

If you mean someone from the city of New York clerks office, a Manhattan judge or even the mayor I am not sure. One of the local Town clerks once told me she only services her town, but I am not sure if that's by law or choice.

If you simply mean someone who is registered with NYC, then the answer is Yes! NYC is the only place that makes officiants register but if you're able to wed in NYC you're good anywhere in the state.

Most professional officiants perform both civil and religious ceremonies depending what the couple wants for themselves. However most do rely on an ordination to sign the marriage license.
