father daughter dance

My Father is recently deceased and my two uncles are walking me down the isle.   I want to dance with my uncles, when u are suppose to have a father-daughter dance, but I'm not sure how that works. Do I use the same song and split it between the two or have two different songs?? I'm also wondering if anyone has any ideas about songs, that dont say father, but are good for my uncles and I to dance. thanks for your help...

Good question! Island Balloons posted an excellent idea about a dance with uncles to a 'remembrance' type song. This could be a 'tear-jerker' in any event(and appropriately so), but here is an alternative. You may also choose one or two songs (with shortened versions) that capture the sentiment of the relationships that you have with your uncles and announce that the dances are in 'memory/honor' of your dad. I often remix songs for my clients for these dances so that they are not too long. Some generic examples include 'What A Wonderful World' by Louie Armstrong or 'The Times of Your Life' by Paul Anka. Would you be happy though, with a generic song? I provide my clients with the opportunity to hear samples of many appropriate tunes so that they can select the perfect song unique to their situation. Hopefully, your music provider will 'go the extra mile' to assist you in making a meaningful choice. Good luck!

When this is done usually we split the song in two and dance 1/2 with each uncle. Some good songs are through the years-Kenny Rogers, The Way You Look Tonight-Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett, Can You Feel The Love Tonight-Elton John,Unforgetable-Nat King Cole/Natalie Cole,Have I Told You Lately-Rod Stewart or Van Morrison, You are the Sunshine Of My Life-Stevie Wonder, Times Of Your Life-Paul Anka, and What A Wonderful World-Louis Armstrong. Good luck, and have a great wedding. If you have any questions feel free to email me at [email protected].

You can definitely split the song between the two uncles. One idea that is very diplomatic is to select a song and have it played instrumentally if you are having a band. There are very few limitations since no words will be sung. If you are having a DJ select a ballad (slow) that is instrumental-no words. This will solve the problem. Ask the MC (band leader or DJ)
to invite you and the first uncle to start the dance. Half way through the MC should invite the second uncle to join in.Hope this helps.
