Nautical Officiant

Nautical Officiant

I am getting married on a Yacht in October, and want to be married by an officiant who is also a Captain (not necessarily of the Yacht obviously...) I am trying to keep to the Nautical Theme.

Are there any out there?

According to the Department of health's website at
http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/consumer/vr/married.htm

and I quote 'Ship captains are not authorized to perform marriage ceremonies in New York State.' So this may pose a problem. Have you considered signing the paperwork at town hall then having the real captain officiate?

Ok I had to dig through the old posts to get this one but my last post on this subject was WRONG. It seems that there is a captian who is recognized bt NYS to marry couples and he's here on LIW now. Too late to help this bride but good info for future ref!

That law only applies to Captain's that are not Ordained as Clergy and more specifically not registered with the City Clerks office of the City of New York. And since I happened to be an Ordained Chaplain also registered with the City of New York, I guess I'm that one special Officiant who happens to be a professional licensed Captain that can legally perform a marriage.
