Need Clergy help, PLEASE

Need Clergy help, PLEASE

My sister recently got engaged. Well, she wants to start looking at halls but I think first she needs someone to perform the wedding. Here is the situation:

Her fiance is catholic and has been married before, they are legall divorced, but in the catholic religion without an annulment....... and he has a child;

It will be my sister's first marriage and she is catholic as well.

They want to get married by a catholic priest but we don't know if one would be willing to marry them without them getting an annulment. They really don't have the time/money for an annullment right now. Also the ex-wife is a nightmare and will definitely fight it all the way. All they want is to get married and have a nice wedding. Can anyone help us as to what they can do. Or recommend someone she can speak with. PS. she wants to get married at the reception site. Thanks!

Just a bit of information for you, I know Catholic prists are not allowed by the church to marry you at a reception site, only in a church. So if she wants to be married at the reception site, it would have to be performed by a interfaith minister or someone else who will perform ceremonies outside of the church.

I ditto the above post by Verdi.

I went through the same thing. NO WAY, NO HOW, will they be able to be married in a Catholic Church unless he has an annulment!!

Thank you so much! But they will be able to find someone to marry them or get married maybe in a Lutheran chuch. Can my sister remain a catholic and have her children baptized?

Re: Need Clergy help, PLEASE

My parish allowed me to baptize my daughter even though we were not married yet in Catholic Church.
A few years after her Christening, I got my annulment and she was actually my flower girl in the Catholic ceremony.

The answer to your question is....yes, they will allow you to baptize children even though parents are not Catholics.

But I would check with your church first to be sure.
Don't know if each parish has the same rules??

Thanks, Marie. I have heard from other people she will have no problem baptizing their children. That the catholic church will not turn potential catholics away, and that was all she was concerned about. Thanks so much for answering my questions.

Dear Denise,
I totally agree with the vendor posts on this issue. I have run into this situation with several brides over the years. Most important is to check with your parish regarding the rules .Each parish is different and the final
decision is always up to the pastor. He is the one you have to speak with. You might want to contact the priests at St. John's University in Queens. They have a much more liberal approach. I have provided the music for many weddings at reception halls where priests officiated at the ceremony. It can be done. About the annullment part- you would have to be very careful in checking in that out. If you email me I can send you the names of organizations to contact that recommend priests for weddings at reception halls.

I could reccomend Reverend Phil Dellarocca. His e-mail [email protected] & phone # 631-859-1506. I think he charges $300-350. Hope this helps.

I believe Rev. Joe DeVincenza and Father Allman are 'Reform Catholic' officiants. I'm not quite sure all the details of what that means but I think it's all the spirituality with less dogmatic ridgidity. You may want to try them. Good luck in your search. May your day be everything you ever dreamt of.
