Re: Officiant needed for 06/12/05

Hello,

Congratulations to you and your beloved!

I would love to be your officiant as would many others. These days it's not as hard to find a good officiant as it is to find the right one. We all have our own flair! Since you still have over a year before the date you have time to see the differences in what is offered. My suggestion is that you talk to several officiants before you decide and see who seems to be on the same page as you are.

Some things you might want to think about no matter whom you choose to perform your ceremony are:

What kind of feel do you want? Formal, Semi-formal, Casual, Friendly, Funny....

Religion? Yes or no, and if Yes, which one or ones and how much?

Is there anyone or thing in your life that should be recognized? Children, people who have passed, parents, an activity that's so much a part of your relationship that to skip it wouldn't be you....

How much speaking do you want to do?

How much writing do you yourselves want to do? Or would you rather talk and have your officiant paraphrase?

And finally (the big question) what do you need to promise to one another that will help you to live a long and happy life together? What you're doing is awesome and inspiring. You're taking the opt-out clause out of your relationship. You're promising that you will be together for the rest of your lives, for better or worse. So to me it's important to help you ask for the things, and promise the things that will make it for better.

The way I like to work is very much an interactive process where you steer me as I write your ceremony. It becomes very much a reflection of you and your life. Of course this doesn't mean that I can't just show up and say something beautiful if that's what you want!

My website http://www.churchofancientways.org has many examples of my writing style and a huge readings section that may be of help to you. There's also a link to 'The marryin' man's' website. He's an Ohio minister with a ton of great ceremony bits and pieces.

I hope all this has been helpful. Feel free to call me any time either to chat or schedule a meeting. Please do leave a message if we don't pick up right away. (You can't always hear this phone ring) Once again congratulations, and no matter who you eventually choose to perform the ceremony, me it be as magical as you dreamt it to be, with many healthy happy years to follow.

Love and Light,
Rev. April, Pastor CoAW
