Am I expected to feed or tip the musicians hired to do my party? If so how much should we tip?

Re: tipping and feeding
Dear Stately:
As a vocalist in a band, tipping/feeding is entirely up to you. From my experience for over 15 years if you offer a meal or cocktail hour food, it is very appreciated. Tipping, however, should only be based if you feel that the band/dj/florist/etc. has met and exceeded all your expectations regarding their service/performance.
In all cases, if you decide to 'tip' it is a nice gesture to tip each individual musician/dj/floral person etc. to insure that each person that has contributed to the success of your event is directly rewarded.
Good Luck in all your planning!

Re: tipping and feeding
I agree 100% with Cathy but I would just add that if you get down to deciding between feeding or tipping, I would go with feeding. Not only is it more common ( but again not required) it is also a smart thing to keep your performers nourished and fueled for the task. ...Des ======================= Burke Entertainment 631-286-4168 [email protected]

Re: tipping and feeding
I am seconding the comments and suggestions made by Cathy and Des. They both make good suggestions. I agree with both of them. When a band is energetic -having a meal always helps keep the energy level going. This topic was brought up at a recent seminar/meeting of band leaders in the New York-Long Island metropolitan area- people who own the business as well as perform with the first band from the office. Because they own the business as well as perform - they rarely receive gratuities. The clients are much more comfortable providing meals. Many clients pay balances in advance to avoid being uncomfortable with the issue. A poll was taken of the band leaders attending and this was the consensus (finding) of the the band leaders attending the seminar. This seminar only pertained to band leaders- DJ companies were not part of the seminar. There may be a totally different approach to the topic with DJ companies.
