Hyatt Kawaii Under Construction 4/03-12/03

In my research on where we should stay in Hawaii, I ran into this post on weddingchannel.com. Thought you ladies might want to take a look...

**WARNING: Kauai Hyatt Under Construction 04/03 - 12/03**
I just read the following bulletin about the Kauai Hyatt:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION (08/30/02) The Hyatt Regency
Kauai Resort and Spa will be replacing its roof
beginning April 2003. The expected finish date is
December 2003. Taking small sections of the roof, they
will remove the old tiles and add the new tiles onto
the sub straight. As each section is completed, the
surrounding landscape will be restored. Periodically
from June through December they will finish painting
the exterior of the resort. This will entail
scaffolding and hanging ladders around the perimeter
of the building in scheduled phases--June 12-July 18,
August 12-September 13, and November 18-December 20.

I wanted to make sure that anyone else planning a 2003 Kauai honeymoon had this information before they made their plans.

Wow...I wonder how if will look and effect a trip!!! The hotel is so nice and the amount of time for renovations sounds really long.

My hotel in Maui was suppose to be under renovations while I was there (October is supposedly slow season and many renovations are done at that time). I really didn't see anything though. A few people painting and the smell of fresh paint in the halls every now and then but that's it.

Although I'll be leaving there on June 12th, we'll see if this will affect me, if it does, then maybe I will change my plans to Kauai first, then Maui. Damn !!!!!

La Liz, you know I posted that for you girl! One of the girls on the other board said that her travel agent did not know about it either, that she found out through the Hyatt directly. The Hyatt moved her into a room away from the construction- wanted to make sure you know about it, so you can do it too if necessary.

OK, here is a reply from the hotel that one of the girls posted:

hyatt's reply
just wanted to forward everyone interested the reply i received from the hyatt. hopefully this will help anyone with a decision that they need to make.

---

Thank you for your email. We do plan on staring a room renovation and
a roof restoration project in late March of 2003 and plan on ending them
in December of 2003.

We have been working on the planning of these projects for well over
one year. We believe that we have come up with a good plan of attack to
eliminate most of the inconveniences from a guests standpoint.

We will be using an electrical crane as opposed to a diesel crane to
eliminate the noise. The work will be done from the mountain side of
the building so that the pool and facilities will not be effected. We
will also be placing rooms out of order in the area of work so that no
guests will be in the direct work area (at the same time we will be
doing the work on remodeling these rooms)

Please let me know if you have any additonal questions,

Aloha

Re: Hyatt Kawaii Under Construction 4/03-12/03

Hi everyone,

MY FH researched the Kuai before we made our arrangements and found the same press release about a month ago.
Our travel agent called and verified that it would not interfere with th pool at all and that there will be renovated rooms when we get there.
She was the best she also called the Hyatt in Maui and they were doing construction to that would affect the pool. The Four seasons doesn't
We are going from May 26-June 10th.

We still booked it. I don't think it will matter that much... Also if you plan on going to Hawaii check to see if there are any conferences or conventions going on at your hotel. Things might get a little hectic arounf you if there is...

I have a friend who works in that Hyatt as a Meetings Coordinator. I just called her and left a message. I will keep you posted on what she tells me.

I stayed at the Hyatt about 3 months ago - that's too bad about the construction, because is truly is a wonderful resort. However, the property is so huge, you might not really even see anything too major. Hopefully they'll focus on one area at a time and have all the guests on the other side of the resort.

Girls ... I know this sounds discouraging, but you may not want to let this sway you from going. Here's my advice:

(1) Call ahead ... plenty of time ahead, then confirm again right before you leave ... call directly! Do not rely on your TA for this ... tell them you're worried about the construction & that you know that they'll compensate you for it by upgrading. They treated us VERY well, and I can see how they wouldn't want to let this affect your stay. IE they'll be VERY accomodating.

(2) They are a first rate hotel, and their main draw is the spa. They will do everything possible not to let this renovation affect that. Call and speak to the spa directly & confirm with them as well. Then book your appt's ... they fill up fast and are WORTH the MONEY!!!

JMO, girls, I wouldn't want you to miss out on a great hotel, b/c of a small prob. that probably not affect you anyway.

ALOHA!

I, too, will be at the Hyatts in both Maui and Kauai between June 2 and the 14th. I just emailed my American Express travel agent who contacted Hyatt headquarters in Hawaii who said:

All renovations in the Hyatt were done LAST YEAR
and none are planned for this year.

What to believe?
