tipping...if you're not on liw...good news!

just wanna say that ive been speaking to a few non liw previous brides and in regards to tipping since they didnt see any of these lists that go around, they gave less for tipping. just saying that if they are, then other girls are too and that means that vendors dont necessarily expect as much as us liw girls are giving in all cases since it might not be the norm.

Thats great to know! I had always thought the tip list on here was a little high

That's a good point! Whenever I go on like tipping etiquette websites, it's usually less than some of the tips I've seen on LIW.

I agree. A lot of the tip list I found on this site are crazy high. I am not tipping nearly that much.

I agree. I am using LIW and other people I talk to as a guideline but ultimatley anyone's tip is based on their performance the day of my wedding.

when it comes to tipping.. you should tip based on the service but not to go outside your comfort zone! i know i won't!

I thought they were high too, plus I feel like people are getting tipped that don't need to get tipped. For example, hair and make-up. I can understand if you're going to a salon and the hair stylist/make-up artist isn't getting the money in their pocket, but if you're using someone who owns their own business or who does it on the side, then they don't need a tip! All the money is going to them. Limo included tip in the price and my photographer owns her own business so she specifically says in her FAQ, no need to tip her! This makes me feel a whole lot better.

With that being said, if someone does an exceptional job and I'm really pleased and have the extra cash, then I will tip a little, for example, the limo driver.

I was planning on giving less anyway LOL! Some of these tips seem VERY high.

sounds good to me..

a friend of ours only gave their Maitre d $100 - *** and she had her wedding at el Caribe in BK. I thought that was way too low... LIW is a great guide but the day of the wedding its up to how you feel that day

Yea I think it depends on the service. I think it's crazy that the Maitre D gets like 600 a night. They recommend 3-5 dollars per person. Who the hell makes that in just a few hours unless your a stripper lol. I think 200-300 is good.

I know a lot of ppl who didn't even tip florists, DJs and makeup/hair stylists since they were getting paid plenty already.

I had no plans of tipping florist, limo or makeup people until I saw all these Tipping threads on LIW..I do think there is a truth to OP's statement...we may be overpaying simply because of peer pressure...I met w/ a vendor this week who flat out told me 'those wedding chat boards can be the death of you...theres always 1 big blabbermouth who seems to sway everyone into thinking they need to do what she's doing to keep up, etc'..

Def some truth in that statement,,I plan to tip a certain percentage as recommended in commercial Bridal magazines and if I think the service was fantastic, I would chip in more $$
