UPDATED AT BOTTOM --- NO KIDS @ WEDDING.. IS THERE ANY WAY TO
Original post by Mrs_B
nicely say in the invite that there are no children allowed. my problem here is that FHs two cousins are thinking about bringing FIVE kids between the two of them (umm hellooo over my dead body thanks) We were thinking of maybe putting a cute poem about the fact that we dont want any rugrats there but arent sure how to word it. These are actually the only two people we might have a problem with as everyone else with kids WANTS TO HAVE A NIGHT OUT. I was trying to come up with a cute saying but cant seem to get the words. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

What is with people who think they can bring random people? I read so many posts about... 'can I bring my girlfriend's hairdresser's accountant's landscaper?'
NO, it's NOT A FREAKING BARBECUE OR A BIRTHDAY PARTY. Get a babysitter and suck it up!!!
What is with this mentality that kids are entitled to attend everything that adults do? When did this happen? My cousins didn't want to leave their 11 year olds for the day. I hate to break it to them but their 11 year old daughter might want to be with her friends and not watch her parents dance a waltz.
Call them up and address the inner envelopes to the SPECIFIC people invited.
We spread the word early. Everyone I called to tell I was engaged (we booked the wedding the same week) I told them, NO CHILDREN, and no one NOT specifically invited.
Or you could do what my father in law suggested... ok, you can bring anyone you want... there is a $250 pp cover charge over and above the gift! Oh, you have to hang up now to call the babysitter, oh, ok' Problem solved

I'd say a lot of these suggestions are good ones--but I wouldn't use the 'budget' excuse...one of my cousins is famous for offering to pay for his kids! Space is an issue that a person can't argue with, personal preference as well. I'm kind of a hard nose about having 'adult' appropriate times and 'everyone' appropriate times, so I TOTALLY stand behind you and your FH! Good Luck with everything....(and DON'T let THEIR lack of manners make you feel bad!)

If there names arent on the invitation it should be clear that they arent invited. I dont think a poem is necessary, if they are confused after the invites go out i would just tell them nicley, that you arent having children at the wedding.

Re: NO KIDS @ WEDDING.. IS THERE ANY WAY TO
I guess I'm the only one here that wanted kids (well my younger cousins) to attend. But in the end i decided that there are just toooo many of them 25 in total with the oldest being 12, most are really young. Anyways I just put the names of who is invited on the inner envelop. My family all knows and want a night out without the kids. so it wasn't a problem for them.

Oh Boy do I understand the whole thing... I put on the invitation on the reception card 'Adult dinner reception to follow' I know my FH family will flip out but I really dont care. The wedding ends at 130am, I look at it like if your kid is moody it will ruin your good time. I want everyone to enjoy themselves.

we couldn't do that unfortunately! Apparently, in my FH's family, it isn't the etiquet not to invite kids! It can cause all sourts of rutkes!
Luckily, most kids that we know of are not coming!

Re: NO KIDS @ WEDDING.. IS THERE ANY WAY TO
Oh boy! I love the _ seats have been reserved!!! Good idea. But if invites were already ordered and the word has been spread, the only thing left to do is: When you recieve the invite that has the added children, a polite phone call right away saying that, you are so sorry but unfortunately you and .....are having an adult reception only because we have just enough room for all of our family and close friends. Besides, THIS IS WHAT WE WANT WHY ARE YOU A, NO LIFE, WANNABE, SHAMELESS, HOG, CLUELESS, OUTDATED, OLD FASHION, HIPPO, HOOKER, MORON, SELFISH, LOSER..... ASKING ME WHY?????.
For my first marriage, we had 11 kids that were not invited. They were counted as adults because we were under our minimum. So at $170pp, we paid an extra $1800 because guests were inconsiderate. For this wedding, I will call each guest who responds with an addtional person. I will call immediately and say: Sorry, Anthony and I already have our final guest list. We both have decided to have an adult reception. There are just too many kids between both our families so we are having just the adults at our wedding. I do hope you can still make it?.......Thanks so much for understanding.

Do you have a wedding website? This is where we put, in no uncertain terms and I swear to G-D in BOLD letters with starts (***) on each side that: '**Unfortunately, due to space limitations, we will not be able to accomodate any children at the wedding. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.**'
We're also putting the names of each guest on the envelope 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' rather than 'Smith Family' and we're asking on the RSVP cards that people actually write in the NAMES of those attending. You never know with numbers. There's one couple who has a kid and a lot of times, the mother won't go to something but the father and son will. So, I didn't want to get a response for 2 people from them and not know WHICH 2 I was getting

How about writing Adult Reception on the Reception cards
NICE!
I've seen this before too. I like this idea as well.

Re: NO KIDS @ WEDDING.. IS THERE ANY WAY TO
I called the only realtive i knew would have a problem with this and bring her 2 year old - I told her children under 10 were not allowed at the Winery becasue of potential hazards (staircaases, fireplaces, balconies, etc...) and then offered to set up a sitter for her. She was a little taken aback, but eventually thrilled to have it all set up for her. It was a lie, but I had to nip it in the bud.
I think you need to be direct with people - even if you have to fudge the truth a bit. Hinting around things allows for them to take advantage of the greay area.
Good Luck!

Re: NO KIDS @ WEDDING.. IS THERE ANY WAY TO
when the invitation just says 'mr. and mrs.' it should be pretty obvious. i made it clear to future mother in law that i didnt want anyone under age 18 at mine. makes it easier.
