People who Named their Tables (or have been to weddings with named Tables)

I wanted to do this but FH thinks it would be too annoying for the guests to find their tables (cause at least numbers would be in ascending order) cause they would have to look at every table.

What are your thoughts?

Not sure how your hall does it, but Sasha (SomethingBlu) did table names at Jericho Terrace and they still put the #s on the tables, for the waitstaff.

An option is when you make the table name cards, put a # on it as well. Then on the place card put the name and number.

i agree but what about a compromise- a number and a name!?

For example :

Table 7
'Park Avenue'

What sort of names were you thinking?

We're having a beach theme so we were considering naming them after different sea creatures

Yes, Jill is right!

Mine were all names, but when I gave in my layout I had them as follows:

Emerald - #1
Round - #2
Princess - #3
Radiant - #4
Heart - #5

Etc...

So JT put out my names with the pretty stand I bought and their 'normal' numbers behind.

We debated on this for a while and decided since we are having a vineyard theme that we'll put tables named after wines on one side and tables named after vineyards on the the other. Since there will only be 10 tables on each side, it shouldn't be too hard for people to figure it out.

I've gone to weddings where there is something standing at the entrance to the ballroom with a chart, guiding people. Not sure if my hall does that though. Something to ask your site maybe???

That's a good idea. I think if I was going to a wedding and they had the tables named I would want to see all the names anyway, I guess guys don't really care about kind of stuff though cause FH def. didn't agree

We just went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and this couple, I think IMO, did such a cool thing.

They named the tables that had something to do with or meant something special to the people sitting at the table.

For example, our table was named 'Betina Court'. On the placecard it said:
Mr & Mrs. John Smith
Betina Court

Right next to where the placecard were was instructions that basically said if you don't know why we name your table that certain name ask the people sitting at your table.

Well, I had no idea why our table was name Betina Court and asked my DH. He started laughing and smiling. He explained to me that was the place him and all his friends hung out during highschool. All of his friends were at the table who hung out at the certain spot and started talking about it.

What a great ice breaker.

I thought that was such a great idea, I wish I had done it.

Yeah, I don't think guys care too much about seeing every cute little table name.

Maybe you could put the names in alphabetical order somehow?

I was really worried thay the whole name thing was going to be too annoying for the guests. Then I thought, so what if it takes an extra 3 minutes for people to find their seats? Most of them will probably be drunk from the cocktail hour anyway, so either way they're gonna have trouble finding where they sit!!!

Re: People who Named their Tables (or have been to weddings with named Tables)

I got the idea to name our tables from a wedding I went to last year. The table names were vacation spots the couple had visited. I was at Key West and I took photos of the people at Belize, Montreal & others

There were no numbers but only about 12 tables. The table names were in a small frame - 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 I guess.

ETA photos I took

so true! i can't even count the number of FH's friends (and mine too) that we have told about our wedding who the first thing they asked was 'is it open bar?'

You call tell FH that it'll be like a scavenger hunt.... guys love anything once you turn it into a challenge rather than an annoyance... And who doesn't love a drunk scavenger hunt???

That's a good idea! Drunken scavenger hunt, what's not to love Although I have images of it turning into a drunken race to see who can find their table first!

akaMrsT and LadyPrincess - Thanks SO much for the photos. I was gonna ask but didn't want to be a nuisance

I agree with your FH. I didn't do it, it was easier to use numbers - I didn't have to think of 25 different names.

I went to a wedding and where they used names instead of numbers. It was a little confusing, especially most of them were older Italians and it was hard for them to read, it did take some time for the guests to find their seats.

I might have a solution, since the numbers go in ascending order -- maybe you can do the same as them but with the names (A,B,C) - OR - put half of the Alphabet on one side of the room and the other half on the other side - Good Luck
