Anti-American School?

Original post by Butterfly123

I couldnt believe what my friend told me the other day. She is a teacher at a school in Rhode Island and she told me they are not allowed to sing the National Anthem or say the Pledge of Allegiance. When she first started working there, she said she brought it up and it was like a taboo subject. The principal actually told her that we as Americans have nothing to be proud of so its not allowed. She even told me a music teacher was fired for not listening to this rule and allowing his children to sing 'American' songs. One of her fellow co-workers is from England and she told her people in England laugh at us Americans for our 'American pride' and its ridiculous. This really infuriated me. I cant believe this is how our schools are being run nowadays.

Wow. I'm shocked that this school would be able to run things that way. I dont think being proud of our country is 'funny' or 'stupid.' Im so proud to be an American and I think its disgusting what they're doing at this school. I wonder what the parents think! I wouldn't have my children there if you paid me!! I know it sounds a little forceful, but If you're ashamed of America and being American, leave! Bye byeeeeee. Im just thinking of how many men and women are serving our country in the military, sacrificing so much, leaving their families behind, risking death for us, and then you hear things like this. Just makes me so sad!

I'm so tired of hearing stuff like this lately!

Is Rev Wright the principal? Sorry, couldnt resist.

I wonder if any of the children in that school have family members serving in the military and I wonder how informed the parents are of this. I wish I could write an anonymous letter to their paper or something

I would try to do something bc like you said, Im sure not all parents are aware.

What do you think I should do?? I worry about my friends job. I mean theres probably no way they would link it back to her but you never know but I would LOVVVE to expose whats going on in schools.

hmm. ya know, i think you could send an anonymous letter and be fine. bc now that we all know, it could be any of us or it could be any other parent at the school or who knows who! so how could they prove it was your friend. it wouldnt be legal to fire her based on it.

is this a private school?

what does your friend think of this??

Obama Refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance:Someone Lied To You

Im not going to post pics of the times that he didnt or articles discussing why he hasnt. We all have our own beliefs..

most of the pictures in question were during the national anthem and not the pledge of allegiance. I never put my hand on my heart when I sing the national anthem. pictures can easily be taken out of context. Especially on the internet. I would like to see an article where he says he does not believe in the pledge of allegiance. I like to educate myself and if there is an article where he talks about not pledging allegiance Id like to read it.

To be honest- not necessarily him, but I do worry about public interest groups- like the ACLU- putting their EXTREME liberal agenda in everyone's faces...mostly I just worry about our future because I think that it is true, we take God out of the equation and make it punishable to speak about him in schools and we're dealing with a whole different kind of religious persecution

I am very liberal but I think being EXTREME liberal is different and taking away the pledge is just wrong. I agree with you.

OMG he wants to be PRESIDENT of the United States, why wouldnt he pledge his allegiance to it? I never get this one. . .

I know its hard to get through the muck that is on the internet. . .it is like when I have to sit there and watch the liberal media and try to see what is REALLY going on

PS My niece goes to school in Richmond Hill and I asked her and they say the pledge every day!

i guess theye saying its not that he doesn't say the pledge. he just sometimes doesn't put his hand on his heart while pledging.

whatever, im not just saying this about obama but in general, i dont like the idea of not having pride in our country and ill leave it at that.

Re: Anti-American School?

It's really upsetting to read about the fact that schools actually do not say the pledge of allegiance. I teach and we say it every day I don't know if I could teach in a school where they don't say it. What am I teaching the kids then?!!

It's really pathetic that they throw the baby out with the bath water and instead of just taking out or avoiding the words 'one nation under God' they throw it out altogether. But, there doesn't seem to be any law that schools have to obey in regards to the pledge. It seems to me that writing to our senators and congressmen and asking for a law to be put into place forcing schools to say it is the only way that we can get it 'reinstated.' They won't do it either because of the court case (maybe more than one?) involving the father who sued over the pledge a few years back. Unbelievable that 'the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many.'

I think this had gone to the extreme. Our rights to sing or pledge about our country is taken away in schools, what is next baseball games, etc. I personally feel it is an honor to be proud of a country which allows so much freedom yet the irony is you can't even express it in schools so much for freedom.

It just bothers me bc who are they to pick and choose what we want our children to learn? Whats next..... removing 'In God we Trust' from the dollar bills? Or swearing on a Bible in court? it's frustrating how certain things that are important to so many Americans can get taken out to be 'politically correct'

Actutally, people dont swear ona bible anymore in court, they just raise their right hands and either swear to tell the truth so help them G-d or if they dont want to swear they can 'affirm' , same difference

I think it's more about the seperation of Church and State. There are many people and religions that do not believe in saying the pledge of alliegence or singing the National Anthem because it can be considered giving your alligence to a state or government instead of to God. In my son's school they say it. I can attest that they no longer have Christmas Parties but Holiday Parties and Halloween parties are out, they now call them Fall Parties. I guess every state, school is different in their choice on the matter.

i'm not sure about the anti american sentiment in general, but i know for a fact my little sister and little brother have never had to sing the national anthem or the pledge of allegiance in school. that shocked the heck out of me it was such a routine for me growing up, i couldn't believe it was done away with entirely. they go to a public school in manhattan. so sad what this country has come to

Sorry for crashing, but I just had to say something. I know people will prob try to hunt me down, but I think it should def not be mandatory to do this in school. Kids should be allowed to think for themselves and I myself, who has come to this wonderful country years ago am very uncomfortable with the patriotism and (sometimes blind) nationalism that takes place here sometimes. Kids should be raised as 'free thinkers'. I love what the USA represents, but taking this away in schools does not mean that the school is Anti American and that really bothers me as a statement, sorry. Please don't hate me.
