I couldnt believe what my friend told me the other day. She is a teacher at a school in Rhode Island and she told me they are not allowed to sing the National Anthem or say the Pledge of Allegiance. When she first started working there, she said she brought it up and it was like a taboo subject. The principal actually told her that we as Americans have nothing to be proud of so its not allowed. She even told me a music teacher was fired for not listening to this rule and allowing his children to sing 'American' songs. One of her fellow co-workers is from England and she told her people in England laugh at us Americans for our 'American pride' and its ridiculous. This really infuriated me. I cant believe this is how our schools are being run nowadays.

the sad part is that its not just this particular schools. MANY schools are doing this and have for a few years now.

My parents emigrated to this country in the early 60's. They went to school to learn english because that was the spoken and written language of this country. I was raised to be an American, but I also learned my German heritage and to speak and write German.
My parents did not assume that this country would change for them, rather they changed for their new country.

same here, my parents wanted me to learn american traditions but at the same time i was also taught romanian traditions. I was never told not to follow american traditions and only mine. They also changed and didnt expect the US to change for them. They became custom to american traditions and both traditions are followed in my home. You dont have to bash one and only accept one. YOu can accept both
Same here. I made the choice to come to this country so that I accepted everything as is and I'm very happy with my choice and I'm proud to be an American Citizen. And I get so irriated when I see people that don't care or don't make the effort to learn English or about the culture on the other hand they want to mold the country their way.

What do you think I should do?? I worry about my friends job. I mean theres probably no way they would link it back to her but you never know but I would LOVVVE to expose whats going on in schools.

Youre just being pulled into the crap thats thrown out there by the media and members of the other campaign. Go back to page 2 and read what I wrote there. Just because someone tosses out ONE video of him not putting his hand on his heart doesnt mean a thing. If what you posted was a proven fact then it would be necessary.

Now granted- not everyone agrees with this war that we're involved in but regardless, you cannot deny the great sacrifice that men and women of the armed forces are making for this country!
Its an insult to every other citizen of this country that this kind of apathy is being TAUGHT in a public school, but national pride is discouraged.
What's next? Removing the holocaust from text books because some people don't believe it happened????

i dont know what you can do either. The sad part is ive seen these things on the news, whenever a teacher got in trouble for something or parents were upset. Seems like its known so i am not sure what action can be taken. Only thing is what i mentioned earlier, having maybe the parents sign a petition, that might help.
To be honest- not necessarily him, but I do worry about public interest groups- like the ACLU- putting their EXTREME liberal agenda in everyone's faces...mostly I just worry about our future because I think that it is true, we take God out of the equation and make it punishable to speak about him in schools and we're dealing with a whole different kind of religious persecution
