Any other newlyweds on the house hunt?

Original post by GettinHutched

We are! We just started. Market is great for buyers now, but our budget is making it difficult to find a nice house in a good area. Tricky thing is, I work in a very affluent town...and all the towns surrounding it are pretty affluent or the taxes are just high (thanks to Bergen County! ). I want to live near my job but it's just soooooo expensive!

How's it going for you newlyweds? Anyone else on the hunt?

We bought in Levittown in April and prices have definatley gone down since then, but interest rates have gone up.
I don't know about Jersey but my friend just bought in Old bridge and from pics the house looks so nice!

we had an offer accepted, but then withdrew it after the inspection

we've decided to happily rent for the next couple years, and just moved into a larger and sunnier apartment within our same building...

our lesson learned? you know all those really cute port jeff historical homes? They're either 800k+ or they're DUMPS.... we're staying put!

No house hunting for us yet. We are in Albany now for DH;s job and I am really hoping to move downstate once he is done with this program.

we're kinda in the same boat. DH still has at least 2 yrs in his program in AZ (and hopefully no more). We're soooo sick of renting (we have a history of winding up with loud sex neighbors ), but the AZ housing market is just utter crap right now and we wouldn't end up with any equity in 2 yrs time. so, we're saving, saving, saving!

We closed on our house Oct 9th. We had been looking for over a year and finally found a great deal. We are now getting ready to do a complete renovation.

We are looking but not ready to make a purchase yet. My income with the new business isn't stable yet, and DH took a paycut, that will hopefully go back up within 6 months. So we are savvvvvinnngs like crazy.

At least I still have my real estate license so I stay ontop of things! Prices are still coming down for the next year. And rates are pretty stable, and they too are coming down a bit.

It is so frustrating, isn't it?

DH and I have decided to wait it out a little. We're only looking in the Rockville Centre school district. I have a decent apartment with really low rent and given the prices in RVC, any further decrease in the market helps us out a lot. We're just going to wait it out, save some more, and see what happens in with the market.
