Are you happy with your job?

Just curious..how many of you ladies are happy with ur jobs? Do you feel you could of done better? or is this exactly what youve dreamed of?

I guess Ill answer my own question. Im a little disappointed....I am going to start a new job working as a veterinary receptionist which I have 3 yrs experience of however, its not what I want. I went to school to become a speech therapist and I am just finding it harder and harder to accomplish...and I just feel like Im going to be in mediorcore jobs for the rest of my life

I have my own business, so I better be happy

Sorry to hear you are having trouble breaking into the field you want to be in though, I can imagine that being very frustrating!

Millie you're still young! don't worry if you settle into something for now, just keep looking for positions related to speech therapy if you would find that more satisfying. I've been working full time for 9 years and I would have never imagined where I am now back then, things just fell into place, sometimes things happen for a reason, you'll get into the profession you want, just give it some time! it's ok to take a job that's not really related to your field while you try to find something.

HAYLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ive missed you girl!

Hows life as a married woman?? Hows work? Its so great to see you here again...

I have finally returned to high speed, thats why I am back on :) I feel soooo much better now..I was going through LIW withdrawl haha.

Well,I am just a little disappointed because I am finding it so hard to get just a little close to becoming a speech teacher. Im missing about 6 education courses to even get my license and the masters..well thats another story...its just so hard. I am working at Petsmart now but will be quitting soon and starting a job at an animal hospital which is better pay and benefits but still not what I want. But I will just have to keep trying. Enough of my babbling..whats up with you?

No but I do love the perks that come along with it (like lots of vacation time and good health benefits)

Aww Millie I'm so sorry that it's been so difficult for you! Basically I just did my undergrad and grad degrees in speech, and then since I moved to CA... they have different requirements to work in a school here, and I just had to apply and it took about 4 months but now I have my Clear credential to work in schools here as an SLP and it's good for 12 years. The schools here are great and the pay is really good compared to NY schools. Come out to California!!

Married life is FANTASTIC. I seriously could not have imagined how great it could be.

How is everything going for you???

Although it can be trying at times, because reasoning with a 16 year old sociopath is harder than waiting for money to fall out of the sky, yes. I am very happy with my job.

I'm a physical therapist and there are times i love it and times i dont. It's definitely not what I thought it was going to be. There's so much pressure in healthcare to make it a busine$$ that sometimes you just can't enjoy it.

there are bright spots though, when you really help someone and they are so thankful

I love teaching and my students are so much better this year than last year. My co-workers on the other leave much to be desired. They gossip and talk badly about others. It makes the work environment awful. I wish I coudl go somewhere else to do work, but unfortunately I do not have my own classroom and there is a space problem in the building so I am forced into the faculty room.

heh.... my field is the model of difficulty in entering and rising to the top I'm a neuropharmocologist in the realm of acadamia / gov't funded research. the climb up the tree SHOULD go like this: undergrad, techie job, grad, post-doc at a good institution, jr faculty position, finally tenure track faculty position at a major university. All these jobs are vastly underpaid considering what it takes to get there.

I actually almost got derailed all the way in the beginning... I couldn't even find a lab technician job after undergrad! It took 2 YEARS to find a fulltime job scraping crud from glassware for 16k a year ..... and I had a double major and good grades!

There IS a light at the end of the tunnel.... despite it seeming there isn't. I DID get that crappy job, used it to get me into grad school, and then I was a freight train plowing through one postdoc and getting independent funding/jf faculty position.

I won't lie, most of my grad school classmates are stuck doing 3 post-docs in a row, and may quit the field before ever getting their own lab. It's rough.... but perserverence is the only way to get ahead.

keep trying to break into the field. take a severely underpaid job or an aprrenticeship. anything to get some good stuff on your CV. grab for every opportunity as if it is your only chance. you will eventually get there

A tiz the nature of teaching.
I find it amazing teachers can be so kind and caring with their students but so ruthless, nasty, and fake with one another.

We do not have a faculty room but a lot of nastiness and gossiping happens all over the building. I learned my lesson when I overheard talk about me in one of my co-workers classrooms. It was amazingly rude, cruel, yet extremely cowardly. I should have know I would not be exempt from the bashing/trash talking. I have a great life outside of work so I got over it.

Do you have a computer room? Can you do work there? This is where I spend time before the students come in and when the students have their specials. HTH
