Babies on the Brain

Original post by queenschic

For those of you who are planning to have children, have you talked about as a couple if one of you will be staying home to give FULL time care??

i freak out just thinking about this topic. both our parents work and we don't know how we'll be able to afford us not working....the flip side is day care is so expensive...we have no idea.

DH and I both plan on working. If all goes well I will be able to work from home a few days a week. My office is moving to Wall Street and we live in Long Island, so the commute is a killer. DH works 15 min. from home. So, he would most likely be the one to drop our baby off at day care and pick up, which ***** for me, because I would love to at least be close to the daycare so I can check in or pick them up in case of emergency.

I'm still banking on working from home a few days a week after 2-3 month maternity leave. We'll see . . .when the time comes.

I really wish I can stay home, but I just don't see how it is possible to live on one salary. Especially since having a baby will cost us money. I hate that we, as women and mothers, sometimes don't have a choice. It's one thing to want to continue to work - it's another to know you have no choice.

DH and I an decided that it is in our future children's best interest that I stay home. However...it would be hard to do this living in this area. DH's job moves him a lot so we wont be here forever.

Also - I love the idea of staying home...but part of me likes working, etc. I am hoping to do something...even if its 1 day a week! We'll see though.

I will work from home P/T and go into the office P/T. Luckily I work for a family-owned business. I'll probably only have to go in once a week.
