I have had my belly pierced for TEN years. The other day I lost my ball ( tee hee ) so I had to switch rings. I put in a new ring, and now it is all inflamed!! There is NO oozing (yuck) but it is pink, slightly swollen and it hurts when I touch it. I have been putting alcohol on it a few times a day.
I REALLY dont want to take it out. Do you think I should?? The thing is that I am leaving for camping tomorrow and it wont be the most sterile hygenic (sp?) environment . . .

Re: belly ring ??
did you clean it good enough before you put a new one in? keep it in. it will fight the infection. just don't go rolling around in dirt and not shower

nope i didnt i just jammed it in there
seriously i have had it for so long i dont even think about it anymore, i thought it was all healed up and just regular skin by now. . .
I once let a guy pour beer on my stomach and put in a new ring he bought me. . . i guess i was younger then and better able to fight infection. . . .

Keep it in. I don't have the belly ring but my nipple rings do the exact same thing from time to time in the summer especially-the heat doesn't help. I use this salt water spray stuff and saline solution like for contact-nothing in it dso it helps clean it up throughout the day.

Re: belly ring ??
saline is the best as peteysbride said. Just make sure you put a sterile metal and not a composite ring in your bellybutton. Should be sergical steel if not then you could be having a reaction.

Is the new ring the same metal as the previous one? It may be niobium and not surgical stainless steel. I would put the old one back in and go to HoT Topic and buy a new ball. They sell them. Put Betadine on it asap.

I cant even wear fake earrings so it would make sense.

I am allergic to most metals also. I did the stainless and it worked out well. Im fine in the winter but the summer for some reason they act up but the saline helps. Take a small bottle with you and qtips and just dab it throughout the day. It does help.

No! I was in a rush and I had to put a new one in because my skin scars terribly and the hole that my belly ring leaves is huge and disgusting. . .I dread the day I have to take it out.
So I just popped one in.

LOL go for it!
I think you definitely can. It would probably hurt like heck - if you go to get it redone though i think they wont do it through the same hole so you would have a scar. . .

most GOOD piercers say no because of the scar tissue...so just be careful!

Re: belly ring ??
Hey this happened to me once..it was probably a bigger gauge ring than the old one. Or it was just tender when you put it in. You should be fine...just clean it and make sure your pants dont rub too much!

Re: belly ring ??
You are prob allergic to the one you put in. I would take it off and immediatly put in a new one. I bet it will clear up shortly. This happens to me sometimes, when I put ones in that have beads and dangles. I have to wear plan surgical steel belly rings. Just make sure you clean it with antibacterial- I reccommend orange dial soap.

I took mine out for my wedding and recently put is back in. This was about 7 months. It really hurt and definitly was closing. Now it is okay. I think 2 years it too long to poke it back through.

Re: belly ring ??
okay so i just looked and its a MUCH bigger gauge then the one before so I am going to try to keep it in for now and hope its not the metal
I cleaned it with antibacterial, then soaked it with salt and finished it off with bactine
i think i overdid it - its a little puffy bit it doesnt hurt as much
i will see how it is when i wake up
thanks for all the advice - this totally freaked me out and i wanted to get my nipples pierced and this definitely turned me off
