Christmas Question

Do you buy a real or artificial tree?

Do you not get a tree at all?

When do you decorate it?

We love real trees, the smell is my favorite!
Although I hate cleaning up after the needles, I still get a real tree.

We buy it like 2 weeks before & decorate it, so it stays fresh for Xmas & New Years.

Re: Christmas Question

Real tree.

We dont have a set day to buy it ... it depends on our schedules and when we have time.

We usually get it on a weekend day and set it up and allow the tree to settle a few days. Then i decorate it alone (long story but sort of a tradition).

Re: Christmas Question

This is our first Christmas living together. When my roommate was there I never got a tree. She never cared enough. I had a small table top one I would put out, along with lots of other house and outside decorations. My family always had a fake tree so this year we are trying a real tree. I'm so excited!!!!

Re: Christmas Question

We just bought an artifical tree
(DH is a former volunteer firemen and saw too many house fires from dried up trees and our apartment is really really dry & hot during the winter).

We are putting it up the first weekend of December and are having our first annual tree trimming party

Re: Christmas Question

Stacey we put ours up the day after Thanksgiving too! I go all out and decorating for Christmas is a whole day affair and it's the perfect day for us. Plus we usually have his kids over Thanksgiving weekend and they enjoy decorating as well.

We have an artificial tree that was perfect in our apartment but I am afraid will look tiny in the house this year, so I think we'll have to get a new one. We'll probably put the smaller tree in the basement. It's funny I knew the perfect spot for each decoration every year in my apartment so this year will be a whole new experience in the house! I can't wait!

Re: Christmas Question

This is my first year in the house so it will be the first year we can buy a big tree - so we will get a real tree. I love real trees except for the cleanup...and will probably continue to get them for awhile.

Since I lived in apartments on my own and with roommates for over 7 years, I never had the room for a big tree. I would usually just get something small if anything at all - I am not a big huge fan of Christmas so I never really get into it. Last year we didn't get a tree and everyone thought we were nuts because it was our first Christmas together - we just couldn't be bothered - too busy after the wedding!! It may be fun now to decorate a house though! We shall see.

Since Chritsmas time is a busy time of the year, getting a tree will be whenever we are free and decorate when we are free (no tradition yet). I refuse to celebrate Christmas until after my b-day which is Dec. 9th...just a little thing with me. I also always keep it up until after little Christmas (in January).

Does anyone know a good place to get cool - different stockings? That is the only tradition I want to start. I always loved the cool old fasion looking stocking my family has. Nothing modern - something cute, maybe old-fashion..any ideas?

Re: Christmas Question

Real Tree!

Can you believe Enzo suggested we get a fake tree this year? I looked at him disgusted. I said never in my life I would allow a fake tree in my house.

I don't find anything wrong when other people have fake trees its just that I like real trees better. The smell is amazing and I grew up with fake tree in my home. I don't want my kids to grow up with a fake tree for x-mas.

Re: Christmas Question

LOL...I am serious.

I do decorate the tree after thanksgiving. I try to have it up the first week of Dec.

I have bows that I made with ribbons that are burgundy with some gold. I also have many ornaments. Since the first year Enzo and I were dating we brought an ornament to gether. We use to get an ornament with our names and the year. The year we got engaged our nephew got us our wedding ornaments with our names. I thought I was going to cry, he is sooo sweet. I buy ornaments each year and keep adding to the collection. I also have many antique ornaments that use to belong to Enzo's grandmother.

Re: Christmas Question

My parents used to ahve a fake one, and then we started getting a real one when i was 15. I prefer the real ones, but I hate that we ahve to wait until the middle of december to put it up. I used to love that the tree was up right after thanksgiving.

We will always have a real tree, my FH has never ahd anything but!!

Re: Christmas Question

I have to get an artificial tree. Seems like the real ones give me horrible allergies.

My DH won't allow a real tree in the house. He has seen so many horrible fires as a cop, that he's afraid of real trees. I guess with my allergy it's just as well.

But I do like to get the pine roping or some branches to put around so the house still smells great. Yankee Candle Balsam Fir also does the trick!

Since the tree isn't real, I like to put it up the day after Thanksgiving. That way I get to enjoy it for the whole season! Last year, I put it up the day BEFORE Thanksgiving. I know it sounds early, but it was SO nice after Thanksgiving dinner, to sit down in the living room with the tree lit and all the lights off, and just 'feel' the season starting. Ahhhhhh!

I can't wait!!!

The German tradition is to put the tree up on Christmas Eve. Ugh!!! I HATED that!! It took a long time to finally break my parents of that habit and get the tree up at least two weeks before. Maybe that's why I like to put it up so early now.

That is true and it doesn't mean because I have an artificial tree we celebrate an artificial Christmas! Try that all my life my parents wanted us to celebrate Christmas as long as we could, well into New Year's so while all your real trees looked like Charlie Brown trees, all of us that had fake ones were still enjoying the holidays!
