Craft Corner: Has anyone done an engagement to wedding scrapbook?

Original post by Sonicstef

I have a lot of 'stuff' that I would like to put together in a scrapbook - things like photos of the day we got engaged, photos of my shower, fabric scraps, the note from the president, our photo in the times, stuff like that...
so Im wondering if anyone has ever done anything like that before.

Im thinking of using a book like this:

Kolo Newport Album

and mimicking real scrapbook layouts in Photoshop on my PC with words and photos and spaces to glue fabric and cards to using this ink jet refill paper:

Inkjet Refills

So far I can do pages about:
- Day we got engaged
- Bridal Shower
- Bridesmaid Luncheon
- Finding 'the' dress
- Wedding Day

So I need some suggestions help on the following:

a) What else can I include? I'd like to make the book sort of like a journey from engagement to honeymoon but Im not sure what else I can put in there.

b) I need some elegant layouts I can use as inspiration, so please post if you have done one or have seen one.

Ok..I started on one page. I did two layouts but Im not happy with either. I dont have any photos of the actual proposal or anything so that is obviously missing but I cant do very much about that. Critism/suggestions for improvement please:

Stef, I think they both look great for a first stab at this. I just have two comments...oops! 3 - upstairs is spelled wrong.

First, reading your 'story' is a little difficult b/c the font size and the interference of the background image. Unfortunately, I have not been able to come up with a suggested solution, even after staring at the page for 10 minutes...(sorry!)

Second...do you mind if I suggest some edits to the way you tell the story? The first and second sentences read awkwardly b/c you are using language that assumes a timeframe in both sentences and the reader can't distinguish.
Pick one and go with it.

For example....In 199X, Luke and I shared our first kiss...etc. Five short years later, etc....

or....tell it completely differently...(forgive my poetic license, okay?)

January 14, 2000...We were about to share a wonderful meal at Snooky's...a decidedly romantic celebration to mark the special location where, just five years earlier, we shared our first and most memorable kiss. Just after being seated, Luke decided to wisk me upstairs and stage a complete re-enactment of that fateful moment. (Okay, I think you get the idea...)

I think you are doing a FABULOUS job on this...I need to get motivated and start some of these for the baby's stuff...I'm only 2 mos. from his 1st b-day! Anyway, HTH!

Stef - you are so creative I can't stand it!!! Please hold a class - spread your creativity. I would love to start doing a scrapbook but have no idea where to start. I'm going to keep reading everyone's posts for ideas.

You're off to a great start!!!

Re: Craft Corner: Has anyone done an engagement to wedding scrapbook?

Thanks Claud! I definitely could use help with the wording...Im just not good at this personal sort of storytelling! Any suggestions you have - bring them on.

I put Jan 14, 2000 on the page, so I dont want to repeat the date...is there a way I can make the senteneces better without repeating myself?

Im a bit concerned about the text as well but keep in mind that I made the page about 1/2 the size it will be when printed to make looking at it online a bit easier. i THINK the text should be okay when larger but I maybe wrong.

Edited to add: You have got to get started with Pauls' photos....there is SO MUCH MORE you can do with baby photos!!

Margaret & Lisa: thanks!

Add a new layout with edited text to the page - comments?

Like the latest version- I wish people could pay you do do this for a living Stef because your talent is wasted 9-5 behind a desk.
comments:
1st sentece: you need the word 'first' in very 'first' kiss
ring photo- move it down just a bit. The text is hard to read in white since it is on a white area of the photo.

Again- LOVE THIS.

I like the first one the best because I found it the easiest to read. Great Job!!! I'm doing my first page tonight, I'll post it when I'm done!

Stef, they look great so far. I definitely like the layout of the first one, they way Snooky's is featured close up and the text to the left. I also like the idea that the 1st story says...he proposed...and then Will you Marry Me? is the on the bottom. The sucession works.

Definitely do not like the wording over the pic of Snooky's...I think it should read 'In honor of OUR 5 year anniversary'.

Keep sharing them, love them!

Re: Craft Corner: Has anyone done an engagement to wedding scrapbook?

Hi Stef! I just looked at these again...I love the way the first one looks...it has great flow, if that makes sense?

Are you doing these in Photoshop?? How would I go about re-creating the baby page you just posted above?? Help! I LOVE that!
Thanks!

Re: Craft Corner: Has anyone done an engagement to wedding scrapbook?

I use photo shop elements. What do you have?

The layout above is really easy...you just have to know how to use layers.
Claud2001 Posted:

Re: Craft Corner: Has anyone done an engagement to wedding scrapbook?

I have Elements and Photoshop 6.0.
Sonicstef Posted:

Re: Craft Corner: Has anyone done an engagement to wedding scrapbook?

Cant say how you do it in photoshop proper...but here is how in elements:

a) set the page to how large you want to print
b) add in the main photo you want to use
c) add another layer - in the new layer, create a white rectangular box where you want the vellum effect to appear. Set the transparency to about 60% to make it look like vellum instead of a white box.
d) Create another new layer - add the text where you want it.
e) Create another new layer and add a smaller photo like above.

Does that help?
