I just did & how rude, a woman I work with told my BM to tell me?!?

I had 10. 10!!! Cancellations within a week of the wedding
My uncle and his wife decided to go to the Phillippines, my cousin's wife's mother was sick so they cancelled, my cousin (who MADE ME) inviter he mom decided that it would actually be too cold in January for her mom to come anyway and this horrible woman (friend of my mother) who caused me all sorts of tears and anxiety over her daughter AND her daughter's 2 year old (Mind you this is a woman that was invited +guest and she RSVPs with her, her son, her daughter and a TODDLER!!!!)
decided (the week of) that she'd come ALONE.
One of DHs friends called and although he RSVPd for him and his wife, called 2 weeks prior to tell us they were getting divorced...and another of his friends called about a week before and said his girlfriend couldn't find a sitter (because 3 months to find a sitter isn't nearly enough time.
UGH! I still get fired up thinking about it. And I think I had 2 no shows.

It actually was the same as having no shows because all these people cancelled after I gave my final number to the hall, so they were all paid for.

I managed to round up about 6 people to fill up the empty spaces but I still ended up overpaying for 5 or 6 plates.

I agree- canceling the week of is almost the same as a no-show. I already paid my bill at the hall, had the tables arranged and ordered the centerpieces and favors. What is worse to me is that because of these RUDE cousins of DH, I had to ADD a freakin table! That meant another centerpiece. So when they didn't come I had only 4 people sitting at a table set for 8! It looks silly and was a waste of money!
These people will never, ever see me at any of their parties etc...Not even a card!

Michele, I told John the same, whoever does this to us, better expect it back (no shows) & last week cancellations, unless its a really legit excuse.

I only had 1 no show, but Peter's aunt called a couple of days before and asked if she could bring someone b/c she couldn't drive. So, it evened out. That's why it's good to pay the hall for less people so you don't lose the money.

We had 3.
2 days before, my mother's good friend's husband fell off a ladder and was hospitalized. Obviously neither he or his wife attended (they live in Florida).
My friend's DH missed his flight to NY the morning of our wedding, so he didn't show.
Happily, another friend's DH who expected to be out of the country came home unexpectedly, and he took one of the cancellation's spots.

We had a couple

The night before the wedding, my neighbors had a death in the family and they couldn't come. Also, my sister's good friend cancelled b/c her son was sick. Both parties however gave us cards with the same gift they would have given us anyway.

1 no show. One of my BMs' father! She just happen to forget to tell me that he had just had gall bladder surgery!! my BM!!! the day before the wedding I happen to say, how's your daddy (he is 90)?? and she said, oh he feels a little better since the surgery. The surgery?? is he okay? when did he have surgery honey, you didn't tell me?!! oh two days ago!!!! hello, not to be selfish, but i guess he isn't coming any more??!!!

i swear. if she didn't have to perform the next day, i would have decked the girl in the nose!!!!!!!!!!!!

It happens! sad but true!

3 no shows and 4 cancellations!!! All within 24 hours before! So...I paid for them!!!
also, 4 other people did not give us gifts...and we know they never will either! OH the stories I could tell you!

we had 2 cancellations-my childhood friends grandma passed away so her & her husband didn't come.
Rich's adult nephew & his fiance no showed because my SIL is a self centered piece of white trash & she had her boyfriend with her so she asked her son & his fiance(whom we had never met & were looking forward to meeting) not to come because he might get into a fight w/her boyfriend. The same SIL's adult daughter was supposed to come w/her 2 year old(the only young child we invited out of consideration for her)but decided to bring some adult girlfriend that neither of us had ever met instead without asking.
And one of my cousins called my Mom the day before to 'ask' if she could bring her 14 year son, because she had nobody to watch him. Of course my mother said yes & told me at about 10pm the night before the wedding.
I think a certain percentage of BS happens to everyone, I can honestly say I didn't even realize most of it until hours later or the next day.
People are rude & thoughtless, thats just the way it is. Don't sweat it

We had one last minute cancellation and 4 no shows. 2 had a family emergency and 2 were people that came alone when they rsvp'd for 2.

I think there will always be some - you rsvp 6 weeks in advance and things happen. But there's no excuse for the people that basically seem to change their minds

three cancellations and seven no shows! Needless to say I don't speak to any of the no shows and NEVER will again, it is UNFORGIVABLE not to call either before or after if it was an emergency (which none were, even worse!)

we had a couple cancel the day before the wedding, and one of our friend's was supposed to bring his girlfriend, and she didnt come. Still not sure what happened. I think she went out of town or something.

We had quite a bit cancellations the week of. In one day we got five phone calls. Two were longtime friends of mine. We were afraid to answer the phone by the end of the night thinking when the phone rang it was someone else cancelling. Some had understandable excuses and some I didnt understand. We also had a few no shows on my husbands side. As much as you cant believe people do this, they do. I see alot of people going through this. I actually went to a wedding last weekend very sick. I would never stick someone.

We had about 5 cancellations and 3 no shows. We paid for 160 people and 155 showed up. Between the cancellations and the last minutes yes's we would have been at 163 or something like that. All the cancellations were valid (people sick), except one girl who was pregnant. She knew she was 8.5 months pregnant when our wedding came around, why did she & her husband say yes? That completely ticked me off. She didn't call to tell us they weren't coming, she showed up at church with a card, gave it to my sister, and told her it was too hot for her, and she just couldn't make it.

The day of the wedding we had one of the GM's girlfriend not even show up - at church or the reception. The GM said she got lost. I think they got into a fight or couldn't find someone to watch her kids. She was at the church for the rehearsal, so I know she knew where that was, and our directions to the reception hall were explicit, and it wasn't like there wasn't a caravan of people going the same way as she was! All she had to do was follow somone if she wasn't sure where she was going.

It's just plain rude.

Don't get me started.
One cancellation due to appendicitis...totally understandable.
Quite a few no shows. Including 2 cousins who I originally invited solo, they made a big stink about not bringing dates, and then the dates didn't show up. I was so irritated!!!

Another no show was my ex-co-worker who wanted to be there. Then both her and her date didn't show up. No phone call or anything and no gift. I never spoke to her again.

I had them too an I feel the same way as you ladies. One couple just had a baby and I told DH we are not sending a gift. We had to pay for them for nothing.
