Did you get any strange gifts that WEREN'T on your registry?

DH's family gives registry items as gifts on the wedding day instead of money like New Yorkers do (DH is from the south). So I was fine with that; whatever anybody can afford I'm more than thankful to receive as a gift. But what drives me bonkers is when people just buy whatever they feel like buying. In some cases, people want to get you something that has a special meaning, but in other cases, I'm just like, what were they thinking???

DH's cousin got us a silver elephant spoon rest and a pair of silver elephant salad tongs
Now, this had a special meaning to her - college football is HUGE in the south and the mascot for DH's favorite college football team is an elephant, and DH's cousin collects all this elephant paraphenalia. Well, I'm just not into having any kind of safari/jungle animal motif going on in my house, therefore I did NOT register for stuff like this! And it's not like a gift that DH will ever use - he doesn't spend much time in the kitchen!

DH's uncle got us his/hers college football t-shirts and this crappy western looking picture frame that was so ugly I had to throw it out! I felt so bad doing this but DH hated it too!

Why why why do people by you things that aren't on your registry?? Grrrr.....

I wish I knew! I know I got some strange gifts but right now all I can remember is a relish dish - have no idea what that is

I also got a lot of cutesy wedding stuff (frames with our initials, the wedding date, etc) and that's just not me or FH

I got a wind chime yesterday in the mail from DH's cousin in California. They included the receipt...for a local store...I guess in case I want to fly 3,000 miles to return it

not to sound ungrateful, but we got a few dollar store/knockoff versions of things that we registered for!!! the stuff we registered for was not that expensive so there is no excuse. (kitchen accessory type stuff)

we got a HIDEOUS photo album with tons of lace and satin, with a big lace heart on the front... looks homemade so i feel sorta bad, but its just not us at all!!

we got a coffee pot, it was a really nice one, but we had just bought one. That was no biggie cuz we just exchanged it for something else.

I got these bathroom things (tissue holder, cup, tray, towels)...they were marble and very heavy...they had little stickers on them with prices written on it so it looked like she got them at a garage sale.

another thing i received....a statue of a bride and groom animals...we cant figure out if they are bears, cats or dogs...UGLY!! and this same person got us 3 toasting glasses that were supposed to be very expensive (I can't remember the name of the company)...well they were dirty and looked like they got them at a dollar store...why she got 3, I have no idea....

These were all given to me by people on DH's side

I got this HUGE chrystal bowl. It is like 50lbs....I don't know what I would ever do with a bowl this size....so ridiculous! I feel like you would only buy something like this if you have the perfect spot for it...I DONT!

we recieved an electric buffet. what the heck it does, or what on earth i am supposed to do with it is beyond me. i am going to sell it because the thing is huge and i am never going to use it. maybe someone who knows what it is for will get more joy out of it than us!!

I got a HUGE black wooden bowl from one of DH's relatives for my shower! I have no clue what to do with it other than use it as firewood!

I got a HUGE black wooden bowl from one of DH's relatives for my shower! I have no clue what to do with it other than use it as firewood!

I got a menorah... and I'm not Jewish!
I think my father's cousin thought it was a candelabra, because it's very pretty crystal... but it's a menorah!!! I asked quite a few people and they assured me too!

So that one takes the cake for me!
We're going to put it on e-bay!

We got this wooden piece of 'art' that is in a shape of a short wine bottle, but when turned on its side it kind of looks like a fish

Of course this does not go with anything in our apartment. What would you do with it???

The menorah and the wine bottle fish art are killing me!!!!!!



I have an entire section of the basement with 'WHAT WERE THEY THINKING GIFTS??' piled high!

OMG you girls are so funny. I got a thing from BedNath & Beyond... I am sure it is very nice fo someone who has this taste, but it is really not me (WHICH IS WHY I DID NOT PUT IT ON MY REGISTRY )

It is a vase with flowers that are champagne glasses. It is very contemorary looking, but anyone who knows me knows tht I do not like contemporary. I brought it back.

Also in my very traditional victorian house, someone felt the need to buy me the whole kitchen set of that Palm Tree pattern.....the placemats, accessories, towels, candleholders.....all of it. Again, not my style so it is not on my registry.

I got a ton of UGLY frames, a decorated box, and a bag of shells!

I have no idea what to do with the bag of shells, or if I still have them or the freakin' box

This LAMOGE (sp) set of 4 glasses, turqoise blue with all this crap beads and stuff on it. Ughh!!! That takes the cake!!!

I got a big (about 15 inch high) wooden buddah. My uncle is a little, well alot strange! I don't even know what the hell to do with it. My mom says I could sit it out in the corner of my backyard by my big swing that DH got me!
