Do we dare?.... How do you feel about?....

Do we dare?.... How do you feel about?....

Ok So I hesitated in posting this because of the subject matter and our recent traipses into the world of controversy BUT I am stealing this from the 08 brides and ya know there has been some DRAMA over there but this subject they handled really well.

Everyone said their peace WITHOUT judging anyone else's opionions or stance so I'm hoping we can do that here as well.

I think the rule should be that you should fee free totally state YOUR opinion BUT.....DO NOT try to change anyone else's mind; example-quoting someone and then rewriting your original statement, because then it coems across as judgement and no one wants to judge anyone here. We're all pals...most of the time

If we all just post our opinions, obviously we see who agrees and who disagrees with us. That should help keep the controversy down hopefully.!

So now the thought provoking question of the day is:

What are your thoughts on capital punishment?

All for it when the crime has been proven 100%

ditto.
And all this crap about capital punishment being cruel & unusual punishment.
The electric chair is cruel for the prisoner, lethal injection takes a while, they may feel some pain.
What about the victim ? If they've been stabbed to death or shot or strangled, isn't that cruel for the victim ?
The prisoner should be executed in the manner that they killed their victim. My OPINION.

love it.

always a crowd pleaser and entertaining event.

In all honesty though:
I think it is ineffective... and thoughts of it it will evolve the way slavery was. Both concepts had the support of a majority of the public and legal standing, but over time came to be seen as civilly immoral.

I know there are mixed feelings on this but I believe that the punishment should fit thecrime and as long as there is certainty (which I admit is difficult at times to prove) that the individual committed the crime, if it is something horrific like child molestation for instance which I feel VERY Strongly about, then I am for it. Child molestors really destroy lives because 9/10 they don't get better and their victims have to try and sort out their lives which sometimes never happens.

The offenders generally get worse. And unfortunately the states where they have 'compassion' for them and believe in rehabilitation therapy rather than prison time, are becoming havens for child molestors where the number of cases is tripling.

Cases like these, I dont see the point in keeping these people in prison because they never feel the true weight of their crimes. I know the popular belief is that child molestors get 'taken care of in prison' but the sad truth (as told by someone who works in the prison system) is generally these offenders are kept AWAY from the general population because its feared they WILL be taken care of. So they get to just sit and vegetate until their sentence is up (when they can and will do it again) and for me personally, thats just not a stiff enough sentence.

i do think its ineffective in that it doesn't deter criminals.

however i think all sexual deviants such as pedophiles & rapists should be savagely executed --lots of pain for them. because IMHO those people are absolutely unable to be rehabilitated (especially pedophiles) - so we shouldn't bother locking them up.

I'm not 100% sure how I feel on this......

One hand I'd rather have them suffer in jail for the rest of their lives but then I feel like if it's one of my family members that they murdered I'd want them dead. ya know what I mean??

Wow jenn, you have a knack for this...

I am schizophrenic on the issue and I admit it.

-I know all the evidence points to it being an EXPENSIVE and INEFFECTIVE 'solution' using the term lightly.
- It OFFENDS me that my tax $ pays for limitless appeals and legal wrangling, delaying final punishment for years or decades, even in cases where there's a confession or indisputable DNA evidence. So is it really 'justice'? And for whom?
-It's certainly never made a victim's family feel better, or brought a loved one back...
-There are too many cases where evidence has been proven wrong years later; and don't even get me started on the application of cap punishment to the profoundly mentally ill...
So for all those reasons, my intellect says...
'NO.'

As an academic/hypothetical issue, it's easy to answer, right?

But now, if I personalize it, and I lost a loved one to a violent crime.... guess what, I'd be the most VOCAL, PASSIONATE, CRAZY lady screaming at the trial 'hang 'em high'.

Not proud of that, but its the TRUTH.

Me too.

I think they should sit and suffer with the thought of what they have done every day. I find it to be hypocritical you are in trouble for murdering someone, which is wrong, but now we are going to murder you. Also a lot of cases have been reviewed only to show that the person that had already been executed was innocent.

i feel the same. y would i want someone to die by lethal injection if they brutally raped or murdered someone? but then again, i havent had a personal experience so i really don't know....
