Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

We hardly ever use our dining room either - it's dinner in front of the tv.

We keep saying we are going to but it always ends up being a catch all room. I am trying to convince him to let me convert the room to a scrap room but that gets him all worked up

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

We also eat in front of the TV and almost never eat at the table. I guess he actually 'serves' more since he makes dinner more since he gets home 2 hours before me, but I guess if I make dinner, I'll usually put it on the plate and bring it to him.

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

I usually do. Lots of times DH is in the kitchen while I'm finishing up dinner so I'll serve and pass the plates to him to bring to the table. I am really adamant about us sitting down to a 'family' dinner every night with no interruptions.

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

Nope. I'll set the table nicely, and put the serving dishes or trays on the table, but then we each take what we want.

I honestly wouldn't want someone serving me, because I like to take my own portions or choose my own pork chop. My DH is the same way.

I made the mistake once of making a little 'well' in his mashed potatoes for the gravy. He was horrified! I always make a 'well' in my own potatoes so the gravy doesn't run all over the plate. He said, 'Don't ever touch my potatoes!' Naturally, he was kidding about the way he said it, but not kidding about the general message. He likes his potatoes his own way.

He's 100% Irish, so his potatoes are a big deal!

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

It really depends on the type of food. I'll usually serve pasta. Things like french fries or chicken cutlets I usually just put out and we serve ourselves. Interesting question

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

If I cook, I do fix the plates, and serve the food He gets the drinks and cleans up when we're done.

Same here Liz!

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

Gary cooks most nights during the week but since being on a diet, I have to serve myself most of the time (regarding proportions). But then again on the weekends, it is 1/2 and 1/2, I might scoop out the pasta for him and he puts his sauce on or if its soup I'll spoon it out for the both of us. If I am feeling particularly nice for the night and he wants seconds, I will get them for him or vice versa when the other one is getting up for their seconds or whatever.

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

I often make Scott up his plate, but it is more because I don't want to use serving dishes for our everyday dinner. I serve from the pot/pans and I honestly don't mind doing it. He helps me a lot, especially with the pregnancy, and he NEVER expects me to even cook so I don't mind doing nice things for him.

He also cleans up after dinner.

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

I usually do. If we do a sit down dinner, everything is placed in bowls and/or trays, and we both take out how much we want.

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

Ditto to everything Kmcwed said!

We both like to control our own portions (I like mine small, and he likes his 'super sized' ), plus, I HATE for my food to touch on my plate, so ours is a 'self-serve' house.

Re: Do you 'serve' dinner?

Serve, cook what are these words.

J/K If I cook I serve and he washes, If he cooks he serves and he washes.

If I cook and hes not home, I try to keep it warm for him.
